My first visit to this well known, established venue. Pleasantly surprised by informality, accompanied by excellent service and really good food with quirky surprises. This was a 70th birthday celebratory lunch for friends which worked out perfectly. I had Pork Chaps: not for the faint heart in the UK but having eaten all sorts of unmentionables around the world, was...

Right from the moment we arrived the ambiance and service we received were excellent. The dinner was out of this world..... Really good simple food, but delicious and beautifully presented. Our room was charming with the most comfortable bed and pillows. Breakfast was amazing.....a huge choice of food. All in all a really lovely break and thoroughly worth every penny.

What a fantastic place to stay. Everything about The Pig is wonderful. The location, ambience, food, rooms, staff.Very relaxed atmosphere and the food was wonderful, i would certainly have the ox cheek again. The wine also went down well !! If you are celebrating an occasion or even staying nearby then visit as the locals do for a lunch or evening meal.

We had a really enjoyable and relaxing stay at The Pig. We stayed in the Pig Lodge which gave you your own kitchen (complete with stocked Smeg fridge), lounge/dining room, bedroom with wonderfully large and comfortable bed, bathroom with a powerful rainfall shower, and terrace/garden. The decor was just the right side of shabby chic and we commented we could...

The interiors are very attractive. I enjoyed my gin and tonic in the bar but £14.50 was unexpected. My partner and I both had smoked salmon for starter which was OK. Gluten free rolls were provided - a welcome touch. I had the ribeye steak and chips. Both were delicious but I would have liked some proper green veg rather...

This was my second visit to the pig and I really enjoy it. The restaurant has a really relaxed atmosphere and while I have heard some say for the price it doesn't work for them I love it. The decor is lovely - all mismatched crockery and cutlery. Again I really like it. The menu of course changes seasonally and...

Four of us went here on Saturday night. It is staffed by young, enthusiastic staff who are great at their jobs so have been well trained. Its casual, shabby chic is well done and it's comfortable and welcoming. All the food was perfectly cooked and presented. I had the steak which was served medium as requested. My friend had the...

Was seriously surprised at how formulaic and faux friendly the service was. Was told to get something myself when I asked a waiter for some condiments. Waited 20 Minutes at breakfast till a waiter turned up sleepy and unapologetic. When challenged they got surly and defensive. The manager was conveniently busy! Sadly a complete let down for such a pricey...

Overall, we had a lovely time at the Pig Hotel but it is seriously overpriced. The breakfast is not included in the room so to have to pay 8 pounds for one slice of bread and some Heinz beans and another 15 pounds for a cooked breakfast consisting of one sausage and a slice of bacon was in our opinion...

Went for dinner with friends. Had heard varying reports some good some not so . Have to agree wirh a previous reviewer that it's a lovely building and the staff are great but the food does not live up to expectations. I think it is overpriced and does not deliver on taste.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Pig is a bang up to date take on a new style of home grown, 26 bedroom country house hotel and what that needs to be today - original, relaxed and sitting comfortably within its environment. It's really a restaurant with rooms. This is a place that is all about the walled garden and everything is driven by the gardener/forager and chef - they grow and find the food - the chef then makes the menu. The style is home grown in every way - breaking the mold of designed hotels, daring to be comfortable in its own skin, working with what it has and recognising what is good about that. It won't be perfect, it will be warm, relaxed, comfy, interesting, and homely with muted colours, a bit shabby chic and evolved rather than interior designed. ... more   less
