OK it was a charity fund raiser event but I did expect to be fed. It was probably the worst lunch I have ever had. Fixed menu plus vege if you ask. Potatoes followed by potatoes. Has the chef any imagination at all. A round of potatoes topped with a little round of smoked salmon followed by a 'pie' containing...

I am saddened to hear your comments. We had been informed by the organiser that your menu choice was the salmon starter and beef main course. On the day you changed your mind and requested the vegetarian potato based dish instead of the beef and this is the sole reason why your meal was not balanced. Not withstanding this I...

Have just returned from a night at the Great Fosters and would highly recommend it. The staff were very friendly and attentive, at reception, in the restaurant, all the time. I stayed in one of the rooms in the cloisters. This is a small walk from the main house - slightly further away than i had expected - but it...

Lovely historical building and beautiful grounds. We stayed in the newer part of the hotel and our room was lovely and spacious. We really enjoyed our stay, staff were friendly and always had a warm smile. Loved staying here. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

I booked the 'Signature Stay' package for my partner's birthday, this included a welcome glass of champagne, one night's stay in a double room in the main house, dinner in the Tudor Room and a full English breakfast the following morning. Apart from slight confusion over the time of our dinner, which was very quickly and effeicently rectified prior to...

We were at Great Fosters to celebrate our daughters wedding. We stayed four very comfortable nights in the Moat II room and the wedding ceremony & reception were faultless. The staff at Great Fosters are a delight. All those we came into contact with couldn't do enough for us. Smiles and excellent service in abundance! We ate in The Estate...

Lovely setting, the house and buildings are very quaint and clean, staff very helpful. Unfortunately that's as far as we go. I booked the junior suite away from the main building, it's quite modern inside although bland, the bathroom was the first problem as it was a basic bathtub set against the wall with returns each end making it look...

Thank you for your review. Whilst I was pleased that you liked our building and you found the property to be clean and my team helpful I was disappointed to read some of your other comments. The room in which you stayed is one of our spacious junior suites in The Coach House. The full size bath and basin are...

We have been to this hotel so many times I have forgotten how many, but each time we stay is just as special as the next! We stayed in the Italian historic room this time, a beautiful ornate room which is like none other in any hotel. It really has the wow factor! We ate in the cosy Estate Grill...

We had our wedding reception at Great Fosters 20 years ago and so decided to celebrate our 20th anniversary there. The main building is incredibly atmospheric. We stayed in the Tapestry room and our children in the Italian room, both of which were superb. On the first night we had a fantastic dinner in the Estate Grill and on the...

Treated ourselves to a one night stay booked via Secret Escapes on a dinner, bed & breakfast rate. Our room, Moat II, was a lovely superior double on the first floor of the main house with views over the attractive gardens and moat. The room was beautifully appointed with comfortable king size bed and modern bathroom which was a little...

This is a lovely hotel, full of character, and beautiful gardens. The staff are pleasant and polite, and the place has a very relaxed air about it. We also ate at the Tudor Room which is incredible. We stayed in one of the historic rooms, in the old part of the hotel. The Nursery Suite is amazing, loads of room...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Probably built as a Royal Hunting lodge and very much a stately home since the 16th century, Great Fosters is now a prestigious hotel, awarded 4 red stars by the AA. Set amongst 50 acres of gardens and parkland, the hotel is a Grade One listed building blessed with the grandeur of 16th century England and luxurious modern facilities. Its past is evident in the mullioned windows, tall chimneys, fireplaces and brick finials, while the Saxon moat, crossed by a Japanese bridge, surrounds three sides of the formal garden. All the suites and bedrooms are individually decorated. The bedrooms in the Main House are adorned with tapestries and antiques, whilst the bedrooms in The Cloisters are more contemporary in style. The refurbished Coach House offers luxurious accommodation with the latest plasma screens, i-pod docking stations and fabulous bathrooms. The hotel has two restaurants - The Estate Grill has been awarded two rosettes by the AA and serves a simple and seasonal menu with many of the dishes using produce grown on the estate and cooked on a Josper grill. The Tudor Room was awarded a Michelin star and three rosettes by the AA in October 2016 and is an intimate sophisticated restaurant open for lunch on a Thursday & Friday and for dinner from Wednesday to Saturday inclusive. ... more   less
