A fantastic stay in the picturesque Orkney. The hotel was well situated and the staff exceptionally friendly. The food in the hotel was excellent both evening meal and breakfast. I would definitely return 100% if you have time visit the Cathedral and harbour. I hope to visit again, however next time will be with the family and not for work.
Great room, comfy bed, friendly helpful, great breakfast and really fab dinner. Was on the island for a job interview, despitevthe nerves I slept really well. If I get the job I'll definitely be staying there again when I go back
Handy location close to the centre of Kirkwall, short drive from the Aberdeen ferry. It seemed to be no problem arriving off the late boat (some time after 11pm). Smallish room (understandably as its a pretty old building) but with ensuite shower and tea/coffee etc. Bar was very good with interesting selection of beers and spirits, staff were good and well trained in cocktail making! One minor point against the bar was no crisps/nuts available.
My visit was a 2 night business trip. Hotel has convenient car park at rear although can be tricky to park at front. Room was small for one person but very clean and all you could require was in place. Perhaps a chair could be in situ rather than a stool. Restaurant and food was most impressive and service highly commendable. Chef also deserves praise for high quality food with wide variety on menu. Overall, although the hotel may appear ‘dated’ in terms of its physical structure, the service and attention to detail in the restaurant are high impressive. The experience was most enjoyable and one I would gladly repeat.
Has to be smallest double room we have ever stayed in. Had to sidle around the small bed (terrible mattress), nowhere to sit, tv screen smaller than a laptop, nowhere to put toiletries in the ensuite which was no bigger than the cabin one on the ferry, nowhere for suitcases to go. Breakfast average; Very expensive but we cut our losses and moved to a much better (and far cheaper) hotel for the next 2 nights on Orkney - with a kingsize bed and a room 3 times the size. Would not reccommend to anyone and it spoilt our stay on the island. No complaints about the staff.
