This is an older hotel and it shows. On a CIE tour, we stayed here 2 nights. Space was very tight with little area to put our suitcases.(No racks). The shower had no shelf to put soap/shampoo on. The window ledge in the bathroom provided some space for personal items. The meals were good, and the dining area was clean.... More

Checked in for a few days for business reasons. The hotel is welcoming, and has charm in a faded grandeur sense. The double room was fine with a great view over the harbour. Breakfast was acceptable. The downstairs bar was fun

Not bad, perhaps a little bit old dated and lacks some maintenance, the room was ample and generous although a bit below my expectations. Bathroom wasn't good, needs some refurbishment. The restaurant and bar are fair, and although the food is superb, the service was not so good and we felt a bit mistreated. All in all, it's recomendable but... More

This hotel is a little dated but clean and very convenient for the holiday maker. We were on the 3rd floor with a great view of the harbour. It was very noisy outside on the Saturday night until about2 am. The meals were very good in the restuarant but they have a strange table booking system so make sure you... More

The staff at the reception was very kind and helpful. From Kirkwall, I had to take the ferry to the Shetland at 11PM. They allowed me to stay in a reading room for waiting (and resting). The restaurant of the hotel is very good too, with a nice bar managed by young people. The room was a little bit "old... More

I had a family funeral to go to unexpectedly and needed a place to stay for 2 nights as I didn't want to have to disturb any of my relations. I have never had to stay in a hotel in Orkney before but would certainly go back to the Kirkwall Hotel. It reminds me of an old slipper, worn but comfy!... More

Popped into the Kirkwall Hotel last night at 8.20pm looking for a meal. The place did not look that busy. We were greets by a young boy who muttered something and walked away to the back of the restaurant. We followed him and were sharply challenged by a young female member of staff so we returned to the front of... More

I stayed here for two nights in September, on arrival the hotel exterior looked quite run down, the reception much the same and this was repeated in the room. The bath towels (no bath only a shower however) said everything about this hotel for me, they were small and badly frayed at the edges and sides, at one stage they... More

Having recently eaten here on nearly 14 consecutive evening we did not at any point experience poor food or service - quite an achievement for any restaurant. All day menu was excellent value for money with a good representation of local Orkney fayre available.

Stopped in here during a camping trip to Orkney. The food here was just fantastic. I've recommended the Kirkwall hotel to so many people since visiting in May. It's great to see restaurants serving local produce including freshly caught seafood and Orkney cheeses. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful.
