Travelers' Choice
Set in the heart of Cheshire, Mere Court Hotel was originally built as a wedding present for William and Amy Dunkerley in 1903 and has now been lovingly and skilfully restored as a 4-star deluxe country house hotel, award-winning wedding venue, conference centre and fine dining restaurant with one AA Rosette. Set in 7 acres of landscaped gardens and grounds with a private lake in the most desirable part of the Cheshire countryside it offers ambience and rural tranquillity, despite being only 10 minutes from Manchester Airport and within easy reach of the major motorway networks (M56/M6/M62) giving access to Manchester, Liverpool and the historic City of Chester. The original house has individually designed and furnished luxury bedrooms, including two four poster suites, all with wonderful views across the beautiful grounds. The Lakeside rooms all have king size beds. This hotel has played host to a number of notable and famous guests like former US President Bill Clinton, Ruby Wax, Dawn French, Alan Titchmarsh and Spandau Ballet.

I visited with family on a Groupon deal. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, spacious and well presented. The beds were huge and very comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice of cooked or Continental. The dinner was lovely but my sister and I were surprised to find that there were no additional vegetables served with the sea bass and we weren't told when ordering. Although not on the menu my sister and I asked for cheese and biscuits and we were brought enormous portions of three cheeses. The bar was quiet but we had to wait a long while to be served. A bell on the bar would be useful. I would recommend this hotel and hope to visit again.

Saturday afternoon, there was a wedding on and 2 very young boys who told us they were 15 in charge of about 12 tables having afternoon tea. It appeared they had been thrown in a bit at the deepend but on the whole did really well with the service For the money this was very good value a glass of fizz and a basic afternoon tea was £28 for two it would cost this for one in other local hotels. Sandwiches were two fingers each of Cheese and Chutney, egg and tuna, a warm scone with jam and cream and various small cakes. A large pot of tea it coffee each included. Setting was lovely and appeared very clean

Although we arrived to see the carpark packed and a wedding on we were escorted to a quiet room where we had afternoon tea in a bay window over looking the garden. It was beautiful. The tea was tasty, and plenty. One full round each of 4 types of sandwiches. The scones were amazing, and a variety of very tasty cakes. Staff left us to our own devises without rushing us, This comes highly recommended.

Had a lovely time with hubby, evening meal and breakfast fabulous, tho £33 for a bottle of prosecco was a bit high priced. Our room was in need of a little TLC and the wiring of the the lights was a bit mad as we couldn't have the small lamps on without the big light coming on ?? and a bit of dusting on the surfaces was needed. But overall we enjoyed our time here, gardens beautiful, staff helpful.

This is a wonderful idyllic hotel with picturesque gardens and unusually large, very comfortable bedrooms. We stayed for two nights DB&B in a party of two couples. We were greeted by a friendly, efficient receptionist and that friendly, efficient service stayed with us throughout our stay. All our evening meals through three courses were beautifully cooked and presented and though the service was occasionally a little slow due to them also catering for a wedding at the same time. Drinks were reasonably priced for an establishment of this standard and it was thanks to this hotel that we thoroughly enjoyed our short Cheshire break and will definitely return in the future.
