Spent a really lovely weekend here recently - the best two nights sleep in ages. Rooms are lovely and full of character - each one slightly different. Staff are very friendly and helpful - a feel family feel to the whole place. Food portions are HUGE - with a particular shout out to breakfast which was delicious and filling on... More

This has been my third stay at the hotel and each time has been really great. The staff are warm, friendly and attentive (the waitress even remembered my name without asking!) the food is wholesome and delicious (they source much of it locally) and the hotel has a wonderfully rustic feel to it. The owners Tori and Jono are lovely.... More

A bit meh! about this place. A nice setting, with a great garden for the kids to play in, but I found the food bland and uninspiring. Extremely convenient if you have spent the morning in the butterfly place, maze and laser quest place opposite, but I do wonder if there is some resting on laurels here? My 'Thai' prawn... More

Thank you for your feedback and sorry you were a bit underwhelmed with your food when you visited the other day. I am glad however, that you enjoyed our gardens and the the local area. We certainly do not believe we are "resting on our laurels" in terms of the food we produce. We have a HUGE menu, with the... More

Pictures on the website are the opposite of what was served... Smoked salmon on salad was bland... The lamb burger didn't taste of lamb... The drinks and surroundings are nice the food is unbelievably sub standard.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry that you did not think that the food served looked like the pictures on the website. All the pictures on the website are of our food that we have served. The pictures reflect both the Pub food and the Restaurant food. I can only apologise to you for the fact that you... More

We have visited this lovely hotel many times over the years, we've never stayed but use it to meet old friends, and it is a lovely venue to spend a long afternoon. However, we think the food has deteriorated badly over the years we've been coming, despite previous reviews. We find it very lack-lustre, with no changes at all. The... More

Thank you for your review. I was interested to read that there have been, in your words "no changes at all" to our menu over the last few years. I understand this is just your opinion, the facts are that the menu changes seasonally, with new items added and take off every season. There are specials available every day, which... More

We visited Symonds Yat and noticed the cream tea sign outside this hotel so we decided to stop. The restaurant is situated within this old Tudor building and there is a Tudor dining room which is very traditional. We sat in a conservatory overlooking the garden. We had cream tea for 2 and one lemonade. The coffee was extremely strong... More

Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed your cream tea and the 450 year old building we have. I am sorry you felt that the team were interested or helpful. ignored by staff at the bar when trying to order - in fact a phone rang & one member chose to answer having come free of a patron, ignoring us (we had been standing there several minutes). The other bar staff ignored us (now a queue of 3!) & moped about. The restaurant bar wasn't busy. Grubby seating (food stains)... More

Thanks for your review. I am sorry that you were not attended to when you visited. We have been experiencing a much busier time than is usual for us and have sometimes struggled to deliver our normal standards of service. I hope that if you are back in the area again you may try us out again. More

If you have read my reviews over the years it must be no surprise that I just love staying in this part of the country.Probably it was that my Family are Foresters. I stayed again in the self catering apartments as it gave us a bit of leeway in how we arranged our day especially in waking up.We were able... More

Back again only been here a few hours and happy to recommend. Great staff, great food and superb accommodation. The situation is one of the most beautiful areas in either England or Wales. It is ideally situated for. Touring both the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley.
