I have been to the SS Hotel on numerous occasions but this time we had a coupe of the 2 bedroomed apartments which are very big...the staff and food we absolutely brilliant....in fact the whole Christmas package/experience was perfect. Every member of staff went out of their way to accommodate any requirements we wanted and the food was 10/10....whoever the chef is they need to look after him as I can honestly say it is the best food I have ever eaten in Salcombe for a very long time...I have been going there for 32 years and lived there for 10...thank you to every member of staff for making our COVID Christmas one to remember for all the right reasons.....

South Sands is without doubt one of the loveliest little hotels in England. This was our third time staying with them and the staff delivered exceptional service while also being friendly & approachable as always. The food is superb without being pretentious and, even with my appetite, I always left the restaurant feeling suitably stuffed (if you can’t eat well on holiday then what’s the point?!) We admit that we can be picky customers but we honestly can’t think of anything that we would change about this hotel: it’s homely and luxurious all at once and set in one of the most perfect locations with an absolutely lovely view to enjoy with your breakfast every morning. We have already booked to return in June and would encourage anyone looking to enjoy Salcombe from the comfort of a luxury hotel which is a touch quieter than staying in the centre of town to pay South Sands a visit! Thank you again, James & Stasy

Dear James & Stasy, Thank you for your lovely feedback, it was so pleasing to read. I feel you have really experienced the essence of what South Sands is all about! I am glad to read your positive feedback about our chef’s menu choices, & the standard of food which he has brought with him since joining us this year. We look forward to your next visit in June, where, once again you can both indulge yourselves with everything South Sands has to offer. Hope you had a lovely Christmas and have a great New Year! Best Wishes, Freya

Two of us were pleased to be given a great table on the left of the restaurant as you face the sea. It felt like a special evening being the last night before the current lockdown. Marius was welcoming and friendly as ever when we had pre dinner pints of beer in the bar. We were then escorted to our table where our order was taken. We both had Calamari as a starter and that was a very good sized portion and both crispy and tasty. My friend had Rib Eye Steak which he enjoyed and I really loved my duck dish with duck gravy and special chips cooked in duck fat. It was two pieces of duck breast and a deep fried duck ball. The House wine is reasonably priced and of good quality. I think the menu is quite clever in that it is open to you to have fish and chips or burger and chips priced at around £14 or go for something more special and pricier, something that we did. The restaurant staff were very friendly and the service was fine.

We were a little apprehensive given the recent reviews but we’d didn’t need to worry. The suite was huge with 2 en suite bathrooms and living area. The breakfast was very good. A little pricey but good quality. We enjoyed the every meals and they were good value. It is expensive but worth it given the space and views.
