The George is a friendly, comfortable hotel. We stayed here when we went to a friends wedding nearby. Our room was good - although the bathroom was quite small. But it was good value overall and the breakfast was delicious.

We had planned to eat at another restaurant and thought it was in walking distance from Wallingford town centre along the Shillingford Road. After 45 minutes of walking we hadn't reached it and turned around and returned and ate at the George. We both ate a very filling beer battered cod and chips washed down with draught cider.

Really enjoyed my stay here. Great pub, nice room, and in a very old historic building with seriously low ceilings! Make sure you don't have too many at the bar, I just-about needed to crawl to get through the door into the dunny and had to watch my head walking around the bar. Really like the courtyard and atmosphere of... More

We paid £150 for a 'deluxe' room for one night breakfast not included. The room was clean and tidy but far from deluxe, the decor slightly dated and the bed was only a queen. The bathroom was very dated and hard the smell of chlorine, at £150 this was no where near value especially for room only. Had the price... More

Have just returned from staying at the George. The Executive double room (room 107) was very small, had a very poor shower, wobbling toilet seat and the main window catches were broken and very loose. We appreciate that the hotel rooms are undergoing refurbishment, however, there was nothing "Executive" about this room and even after refurbishment it will still be... More

We have just returned from a two night dinner, bed & breakfast break using our Peel Hotel Gold Card offer. We stayed at the George Hotel, Wallingford and had read previous reviews on Trip Advisor which were in fact not really encouraging but were from sometime ago. What a lovely surprise when we arrived, the Hotel is in the middle... More

Overall the hotel is over-priced. The room we had was in desperate need to redecoration. Overall there was an unloved feel about the rooms. For the price I would have expected much better. The breakfast was also very poor. Asked for bacon and was given one slice! On a more positive note all the staff were very pleasant and helpful.... More
