We stayed in a double room on the second floor, which was pleasantly decorated and clean, tea and coffee making facilities. The shower unfortunately didn't work properly, so ended up having an impromptu bath instead. Good breakfast, and the staff were helpful and friendly. The dinner menu was a bit variable in quality; average to poor pan-fried pork (cooked but...

Stayed over for a business trip and although the bar and restaurant has great character with lovely old beams, I thought the room was tired and expensive for single occupancy at £110. The hotel is functional but for the price paid I expected a bit more. A suspect damp patch in corner with carpet missing was not a good sign....

Four of us had a meal at the George Bistro on Friday 24 March. Two of us had linguine with seafood which tasted of absolutely nothing. It was like a few prawns and mussels in unseasoned milk. I have never eaten anything so tasteless in my life and I had really been looking forward to it. One of us had...

I have seen some of the reviews on TripAdvisor and I wonder if people have been to the same hotel! However, after staying there with friends over a two day break I think some of it can be put down to the differing quality of the rooms. I was lucky in that my room was excellent, it was clean and...

I will start with the good points which were good food in a nicely refurbished restaurant, friendly staff and good beers at the bar. Unfortunately there is nothing else good I can say. The bedroom was very tired with worn out carpet in places, a television that only just worked and worst of all, bed linen with holes in them...

We stayed as part of the golden ticket/peel hotel deal. We were impressed by the improvements to the restaurant area since our last visit, and, once again were very impressed by the restaurant staff team, top marks to them. Sadly though, the food was not that great, tough steak, overly salty lamb. The vegetarian option was limited, and to their...

This is probably the 4th time I've stayed here, not by choice but it's my company's preferred hotel. I really find it difficult to say anything good about it. Even the best rooms are basic to say the least but god forbid you get one in the old part of the hotel, shower drips water, the bed feels if there...

Two night stay using gold card promotion. Room very spacious with all we needed. We had evening meals in the restaurant which had a lovely atmosphere and a tempting menu. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Throughout our stay the service provided by all the staff was outstanding. Everyone was friendly , knowledgeable and efficient. We shall certainly return...

The hotel has good and bad points. The dining area was welcoming and waiting staff were very friendly and did everything they could to be helpful. The food was generally good (the omelettes were excellent) and the house wines were very reasonably priced. However, there was some variation in quality depending on who was the chef for that night. The...

The George Hotel is centrally located in the historic market town of Wallingford. It has a lovely rustic bar area and serves 3 good quality ales. Bar staff are knowledgeable of their products, are friendly and efficient. Rooms in the hotel are pricey but are of good quality and clean. Even if you are not staying at the George it...
