We only called in for a drink so any other references to restaurant or rooms should be ignored Comfortable place to sit and watch the world go by except it doesn’t, never seen a town so quiet, but they have the Covid-19 rules covered to a point but never asked for contact details .

Just got home from afternoon tea at the George Hotel. It was a Groupon deal recommended to us by a friend, and was great value for money. I was a bit concerned when I read some of reviews here, and granted it wasn’t high tea at the Ritz, but then that wasn’t what I was expecting. The waiter was cheerful and served us promptly, the sandwiches were fresh, and scones and cakes tasty. No choice of tea, although I didn’t ask. It was bag tea, but again, not a problem to us. Glass of Prosecco definitely a plus! Seating area was clean and quiet, lovely china and cloth napkins at the table. Wallingford is a lovely little town to explore too. I’ve just booked this tea again it was such a pleasant experience!

Just one night's stay on Saturday to attend a family party. We had a double room on the ground floor in the newer wing of the hotel and found it to be good, clean and well equipped. Next morning, a very friendly and informative member of staff, Ash, showed us the charming "Tear Drop" room (Google it) and explained how the hotel was undergoing a series of room refurbishments and upgrades.

Dear Brian M - Thank you for your review and we’re sorry to hear that your experience at Bistro George wasn’t what you expected. All our Sirloins are ordered in whole and the steaks are cut from it, if you disliked the taste of one steak then the others would be of the same quality and this is why the chef suggested you picked another dish. I am sorry you also disliked the sausage and mash, this dish is always well received within the hotel and the sausages are made by a local butcher. I take on your comments with regards to service and will do training to ensure our guest experience is a better one.
