We booked to stay the 4 nights over Christmas from Christmas Eve. I am disabled but didn't need an accessible room so booked an ordinary room. We were very impressed with the room, great size and enough space to move around. Sadly, that was the highlight . On check in we were notified that there was no housekeeping for the 4 days - it would have been nice to know that in advance although not a deal breaker in the big picture of things . Also that apart from breakfast the kitchen was closed. Again, it light have been nice to know . Surely they could have at least offered sandwiches or something similar. You don't need a chef to make them. Disappointing but again not a deal breaker. The HUGE issue for me as a disabled person was the total lack of accessibility to the restaurant. Despite IHGs website stating that all the restaurants, lounges etc in their hotels are accessible , this is simply not true in the Basildon hotel which is up 2 flights of stairs. They did offer to go and get my breakfast from the buffet and bring it down to me in the lounge , but the joy of a buffet is choosing your breakfast. I don't want to sit like some second class citizen in solitary isolation , I just want the same access as everyone else. Its not too much to ask for 2021 is it? We wont be using the hotel again if we can help it , the negative outweighs a good location.

Somehow I am not able to put zero star as frustration keep building up. I stayed at this hotel back in September, the stay was fine although the hotel is really outdated but nevermind, I was there for work for quick overnight. Issue is that although I paid for parking and have the invoice proving it, I still got a fine. After a first email to the hotel explaining the situation, an employee named Aymen replied to say sorry and ignore the fine. Issue is that it was with rental car so fine was already paid including admin fee. I since then asked the hotel to see what I can do but unfortunately after 6 further emails, I have not even received a replied and this is really is the most frustrating part. When called, they say please email as they need to see history... Crazy

Good location to get in and out of, located in a retail park so alternative choices where you can eat. The reception team were very welcoming and managed to find a great bedroom, instead of the bedroom I picked online. (So for that I am extremely grateful - real good nights sleep) The staff were friendly and polite, however, the bar/lounge area was very disappointing, felt like a waiting room at an airport. I think the designers thought this large corridor needs something !! let's stick a bar at one end and call it a lounge... so draughty. Once again, like so many hotels, the staff made all the difference, thence 4 star rather than 4-star rating

a 2 night stay. Run of the mill British hotel. Self isolate on arrival. late check-in. Staff had no idea on Covid rules relating to procedures and rules. Morning staff remedied lack of notification on breakfasts by having it delivered. Plus point here. Parking free but seems like they want to charge yo anyway because you have to enter your car reg number. Very odd. Room is pretty basic. no fridge. Phone out of order. Things seem in order, but dated, Typical IHG lately, it seems. View of the parking lot. quality does not justify the rate.

Hi Maurits_van_Eijck, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for posting a candid review. I was very concerned to read your comments regarding customer service, room amenities, comfort, and value. I understand your dismay and I am sorry. This is not the joy of travel for all experience that we wanted for all our guests. I will make sure to share your comments with our team for the necessary improvements needed on our end. I appreciate you as our guest and I still hope you would give us another chance in the future. Orlando A. Case Manager IHGService
