On the plus side the table linen is white and pristine but overall disappointed with Sunday lunch. The menu is a set menu of 2 or 3 courses. Usual roasts and a fish dish and a veggie pasta dish for mains. Food ok for starters but mains a disappointment roasts served with rock hard Yorkshire's and potatoes overdone. It's not... More

We booked an executive room for 3 nights. The room was comfortable but the dinner we had on the first night was of very poor quality. However, breakfast the next morning was worse. It was so poor the next two mornings we when to local cafe for breakfast even though we had already paid for breakfast at the hotel. On... More

We visited on a Saturday for a pre-theatre meal. Thought we were going to go in the hotel's Cockerel Winebar but apparently these are served in the restaurant from a separate menu, 2 or 3 courses, set-price. The staff are very flexible and we could have gone in the Winebar instead, but as it was quite crowded in there and... More

Yes the floors are uneven and yes it's a bit tired, but what it lacks there, it more than compensates for in great staff. I like places like this, it has aged honestly, but still carries history that you can feel. Smoking staff and customers in the front doorway was a real put off though, give them a place to... More

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review here on Trip Advisor. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay here at the Old Hall, and you appreciate the history and age of the building. As we don't have much outside space, we really do not have anywhere for smokers to go. Outside the front door is... More

This has no doubt been a lovely hotel in its time but sadly it's in need of some work now. Uneven floors, sloping walls and quirky layout are only to be expected in an old building but stained carpets, faded decor and general lack of maintenance add nothing to its charm. Our stay did not get off to a good... More

I know it is a really old hotel with great history but it felt like the furniture was the kind you could pick up from charity shops & car boots to be honest. We had a two night stay. The first night was in a four poster Bed room. Not quite as romantic as I planned, the bed was proper... More

My partner booked the hotel for the bank holiday weekend as a surprise our anniversary, we also took our 6 month old puppy. Hotel its self is dated but nice and Buxton is very pretty. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review here on Tripadvisor. Firstly, sorry for the delay in replying to this review, I have been investigating what has happened. There were areas where this hotel excelled . It is beautiful and a clear step back in time. Breakfast was good and the rooms spacious and comfortable. My only bugbears are: The lack of smoking area forcing smokers to stand outside of the front of the hotel; equally forcing guests to walk through the clouds of smoke to enter the... More

One of the oldest, if not the oldest, hotels in UK, so they say. We stayed for 3 nights in August while going to a local wedding. The room, an executive one, was excellent, spacious and well appointed. Despite overlooking the street it was very quiet. The bathroom was well equipped with all the usual stuff, but no soap! A...
