Like most people have said, the Palace is looking a little tired. But what a grand place to stay for a few days at very reasonable rates. Fantastic position in lovely Buxton in wonderful grounds. Okay place to stay to explore the peak district

We stayed, again, at The Palace Hotel, for a visit to the Opera House. Our stay was better than our last visit. Unfortunately it still has an aura of faded charm about it. Room with en-suite was acceptable but like so many places needs a bit of TLC. Food was acceptable but not sure if it was all good value... More

We met some friends here, and stayed for one night. The hotel must have been glorious in its hey day, but is now looking very tired and a bit shabby. The receptionist was not overly helpful, and just took our money. Didn't mention any facilities until we asked about them, swimming pool is tiny. The room had a kettle, but... More

Our grandson and his bride had their wedding reception at this hotel on Saturday 20 th August 2016. We all had a superb time. The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. The reception was in the High Peak Room beautifully laid out in black and white for our arrival. Pimms ready and waiting. Quick check in. The food was... More

An imposing Building with huge potential as a first class Hotel but in a generally disappointing , and In parts a shabby state . Our room was extremely disappointing and shabby. In need of renovating. The wardrobe was covered in chips and very tired. The bathroom towel rail was not working as was one of the lights and the extractor... More

We queued for about 30 mins just to check in on the Friday afternoon. The hotel is old but not modernised. They have only two checking desks on reception but had about 4 or 5 staff mingling around with no idea they had frustrating customers having to wait. There's one elevator that has seen better days for the whole hotel.... More

We stayed at the Palace Hotel on Friday 19th August 2016 as our relative chose to have their wedding reception there. When we arrived the hotel looked impressive from the outside and lived up to the brochures description, but how looks can be so deceiving!!! The staff generally are very pleasant, but this is marred by the the poor quality... More

Arrived at 11am (not expecting to check in but leave out luggage), this was done with no problems. We mentioned to the receptionist that we were attending a wedding and would be unable to check in until the wedding had finished so our next arrival would be around 12am. When we arrived we were told our room had not been... More

Careful with the satnav or you may end up in the street just behind the hotel, which is right outside the university campus [another beautiful old building worth a look at, too], but you literally drive around the corner into the next road and turn into the hotel car-park. Car park is paid for at reception in the hotel. We... More

Lovely location but dreadful room. Bed very uncomfortable. Had to have the window open as it was hot but that meant listening to a generator all night. No soap or shampoo provided. Everything very basic. Not what we expected. Even had to pay for parking in their own car park.
