Stayed for 3 nights over the bank holiday. Two double rooms at the same price, couldn't be more different! The toilet in 234 was a joke, there was barely enough room to sit down between the wall and the bath! The staff need a course on customer service as most were really unhelpful. We ordered tea from the bar and... More

Aside from the duty manager all the staff at this hotel need lessons in customer service. Extremely poor! Check in was delivered by a robot, zero personality! Shortage of breakfast staff with one member admitting that breakfast was carnage! For a grand hotel there seems to be no organisation. We did not stay for breakfast the second morning because it... Magnificent 19th Century building in lovely grounds and in a great location. Friendly, helpful staff but also understaffed and badly in need of refurbishment and investment in services. Good gym facilities and swimming pool but room was disappointing with separate toilet and bathroom with tatty doors that would not stay shut unless locked. Room entry card failures, queues at reception,... More

I booked a double room last Thursday night and had a lovely stay at the Palace Hotel. We received the warmest welcome by the Hotel Receptionist who was really friendly, professional, helpful and efficient (I am sure her name was Yasmin) as well as checking us in she gave us advice on local attractions and places to eat. We met... More

Great location and had high hopes of this 4 star hotel . How disappointing the double room we were given was the size of a large cupboard with a very small frosted toilet window . We complained immediately and got moved to a room with a proper window . The furniture was very dated and scratched and the plumbing is... More

It's a beautiful hotel in desperate need of some TLC. Certainly not 4 star anymore. We went with another couple and our dogs, which as a positive it does allow dogs. However the service was dreadful, the breakfast was a laughing stock. The location you cannot fault, which is why I'm giving it an average rating. It's such a shame... More

Don't know what everyone is moaning about on here. This is a lovely hotel, really impressive and historic, tremendous gardens, our room although small was spotlessly clean and well stocked, the staff are really friendly and helpful, amazing buffet breakfast, close to some fabulous local restaurants just a short walk away, some of them right opposite the hotel. My only... More

We booked this hotel on a deal and although first impressions were very good, we just thought that there is a lot to update. The room was very large and had a large bathroom area but the shower was very poor and mattress lumpy and could feel the springs. We hadn't booked breakfast but tried it on the first day... More

We chose this hotel as we wanted an overnight stay not too far from home and I've always loved derbyshire. We wanted a 4* hotel as that's what we like. A lot of people that write the reviews report the WiFi is poor and the check - in was slow. On our visit we found d this fine. The building... More

Starting on a positive note : This place has charm and a lot of history and period features. The breakfast food was decent quality, location is good right next to the Town Centre and points of interest.....that's pretty much it..... HOWEVER...the old time charm comes with a dated decor and pretty poorly maintained hotel. For a 4 star, this seriously... More
