Went there with a couple of friends, was a lovely place ! Nice staff, nice food, good prices and not too full on! As I live near hay, I don't go there on a regular basis but when I do, its very good. For people who don't live around this area, its not hard to find either!

We booked Sunday lunch here a week ago so imagine the disappointment to turn up and end up with a sandwich / snack type menu. Apparently as the Hay festival was on it wasn't busy enough to cook a roast. The receptionist had tried to ring but she had a digit wrong on my phone number despite me repeating it... More

We dropped in for food and drinks as we were in town for the festival. Well you could die of thirst, the bar staff must be used to taking your order at the table, because even at the bar the staff wrote your order down, and then disappeared and returned about 5 minutes later with a tray of drinks. You... More

The exterior of this hotel looks lovely. Sadly that's where it ends...! We went in for a drink during the festival and left without having one. It is extremely tired and dated - peculiar furniture in a room next to the foyer - faux leather tub seats...onto the bar - the busiest fortnight of the year in Hay (and the... More

We have been regular visitors to the Swan over many years both in and out of Festival time - to eat and drink. We arrived around 2PM to order some lunch plus a couple of pints. Even though were in mid-Festival, the place was not exactly heaving - a couple of tables in the bar andI suppose about 20 people... More

Booked 2 nights B and B. If you like the smell of paint, a dusty atmosphere, lounge looking like a building site......then book to stay here. The place is obviously undergoing major alterations, and as such should be closed to the public. It is not fit for guests. Our room - paper peeling from the walls; but must admit a... More

We stayed here recently, hotel full of character, we were aware that the owners are carrying out extensive maintenance and improvements, which when finished will result in a very nice place to stay. Good points excellent breakfast (service poor) our room was clean, centrally located, nice riverside walks close by. Poor points service in bar and restaurant young staff are... More

What I can't quite understand is why the new owners of The Swan Hotel thought it was a good idea to keep it open whilst doing a major refurbishment. It was not. Our bedroom was large, which was nice, but the wall paper was coming off, the shower didn't work, and the carpet was dirty on an incredibly squeaky floor.... More
