I have stayed at the First Hurdle Guesthouse several times, and each time I am greeted with such warmth and attention! The rooms are beautifully decorated, and the beds are very comfortable. There are a variety of options for breakfast and the morning atmosphere is easygoing. Scott is a wealth of knowledge and can tell you virtually anything about Chepstow...

The hotel is nice, but don't leave anything there! I tried by phone, email and even in person to reclaim my lost items but nothing. They didn't return any of my messages and showed no interest in helping me out, preferring to chuck away my belongings instead.

Hi JK. I see that you stayed at the first hurdle a year ago but have only just made a review. In the time since you stayed here back in 2015 the First Hurdle has come under new ownership, we've fully refurbished, are in the process of opening a restaurant and have new systems in place to ensure that communication...

Myself and my partner stayed for one night this weekend to visit family who live nearby. Our room was booked for us by my brother in law and when we were told we would be staying in a 'guesthouse' we were extremely hesitant as we would usually opt for a larger premier inn type place for a short stay but...

The owners were very friendly and it was set in a good location. The free breakfast had a good range of food to choose from. Unfortunately we have awarded it two stars as we found the price to be too steep for the quality of room and area. £75 for a small double is far too expensive! £50 would be...

Was lucky enough to be upgraded to the top attic room which was huge for a guest house room. Had to be the prettiest room I've ever stayed in. Amazing. Would definitely use every time I come to Chepstow now as right in the heart of the town and straight across the road from the car park too.

We needed a base in Chepstow for a group bike ride, supporting friends riding from Lands End to John o Groats. The First Hurdle seemed to fit the bill and boy did it deliver. Great welcome from Scott, good accommodation and a hearty breakfast to get us on our way. The day was very wet and Scott went out of...

Stayed just one night midweek and found the experience quite acceptable. The room (5) was not spacious but for one night was fine - anyone staying longer ought to ensure a larger room is available. We had a good night sleep and the place was spotless. Breakfast was perfectly adequate - the yoghurt and fruit were very good. My wife's...

I stayed in Chepstow for several weeks in May and had a delightful stay at the First Hurdle. Chepstow is a cute town with beautiful surroundings, pubs, music, gorgeous Spring bloom, and its all just out the front door. Scott knows the area's history and loves sharing it and giving helpful suggestions for sightseeing. The staff were really friendly and...

We booked this B&B in May for a stay in August. No written confirmation from the B&B at all. Couldn't check in until 4pm. Very disorganised upon arrival and got the feeling we were interrupting a leisurely afternoon. She seemed very glad to get the £75 from us as soon as we were through the door though. Our room was...

We're ever so sorry that you didn't get the experience you hoped for. It was unfortunate that the fire alarm went off that morning and we're sorry you didn't get an explanation. Thanks for pointing out about the shelf, we haven't had a comment about it until now but will certainly move it just in case it is a problem...
