Booked to stay for 1 night on the Cheers and Chill package and was so impressed that decided to stay another night too. All staff were very friendly and helpful and the meal in the evening was fantastic. Well worth the money. Rooms are a bit old fashioned but its nice that they are kept in character with the building.

I had a very nice room with a sea view and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The bathroom was functional but dated. I understand that a refurbishment was due but had to be postponed because of the pandemic. The location is great and I would happily stay another time.

Together with my partner we came to the Clifton Hotel to spend lovely time but since we arrived it didn't seemed like we actually gonna have a lovely time we wished for. We've had a lovely room with the sea view which we were really happy with but the flush in the toilet wasn't working, lovely Lady from reception swap the room for as without any issues sadly the room we get left us with loads to wish for. We went to the bar waiting for 20 minutes to be served as there was no staff finally we manage to order drinks and some snacks with some issues as the man behind the bar seemed to not understand what we want, while we were eating the same member of staff was burping behind the bar watching the videos on his phone while another member of staff was swearing we felt like we were on the farm such a disappointment. In the evening we were dining at dome and here's a big thank you for the lovely man who served as and made sure we have a lovely evening and the food was amazing. I would recommend this place for dining but definitely not for the overnight stay we've the loved ones.

Dear MH Thank you for your feedback and the constructive comments therein, these are very much appreciated. I am genuinely sorry your stay was not the happy experience I would have hoped for but I am grateful for you telling me what was wrong. We have had a meeting with the individuals behind the bar and corrective actions have now been taken so any future repetition will be negated. The bedrooms were scheduled for a complete refurbishment beginning in April 2020, however this has been delayed due to various closures and supply issues caused by the pandemic, although we are hoping to get this underway shortly. I am pleased you enjoyed dining in the Dome and I have passed your praise onto all concerned Once again, thank you for your review, it has been really helpful Kind regards Neil

For the second time I spent Christmas at the Clifton Hotel in Folkestone. I also use the hotel for overnight stays to arrive next morning at the Channel Tunnel. I will happily do so again. What I do object to is being told by this website how much I must write.

I wanted to speak with the team prior to writing a review but as Best Western has insisted I will proceed. The front of house guy with dark hair and glasses should NOT be front of house. He has no understanding of customer service or empathy - I dont think he had a soul in all honesty. The rooms are extremely dated - Lots of issues with rooms (Spoke to other guests and they seem to have similar rooms), I love and appreciate historical decor to match these beautiful buildings. This was just not maintained - Nothing worked well and everything was breaking or falling apart. The worst part was when I went to run a bath and found white powder on the glass shelf in the bathroom! I felt embarrassed for them and called down to reception. It was my friend from reception that did the clean up, again just soulless and barely said a word! Just shocking. Cannot believe there was no apology or gesture of good will. I feel a bit annoyed but going forward I will never book a best western again (Its a shame because my favourite hotel in Bournemouth is a Best western but do not want them having another penny of my hard earned money)

Dear Guest Thank you for your review and the feedback therein, this is very much appreciated. I will discuss your feedback regarding the residue on the shelf in the bathroom with the external housekeeping contractors as this is not the standard of hygiene we expect from our suppliers, so please accept my apologies for this. In respect of the receptionist you encountered, I have to politely disagree with your analysis. This employee is a valued member of my team and has on numerous occasions received praise from guests staying with us and has been recognised for going beyond what is expected of him. I am sorry you feel differently however I can assure you what you encountered is not what I & the team experience In regards to the condition of the hotel, yes she is a very old building and was scheduled to have all the bedrooms & bathroom completely refurbished beginning in April 2020, for obvious reasons this was cancelled due to the hotel being forced to close during the pandemic and we are now only just starting to find our feet once more, that said, the owners are planning to start this again very shortly whereupon all the faults you found will be addressed & resolved as part of this. Once again, thank you for your review and perhaps one day you might consider visiting again so you can see what changes and improvements we are implementing as a hotel. All Best Western Hotel's are independently owned and as such they are all independent of each other. Kindest regards & Season's Greetings Neil
