Thistle Express London Luton garners favor for its cost-effectiveness and strategic location near the airport and city center, which many guests find advantageous. The hotel's cleanliness and friendly staff are often highlighted, contributing to its welcoming atmosphere, although opinions vary with some describing the ambiance as basic.
While some guests commend the modern amenities and inclusive breakfast, others are less impressed, pointing out dated decor and maintenance shortcomings. Additionally, concerns regarding room noise and occasional service lapses are mentioned by travelers.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed there for 3 nights and were satisfied with our stay. The location is very convenient if you are flying to or from Luton Airport as there is a local bus which stops very near the hotel and only costs 2 pounds. This bus drops you right in front of the terminal building ( something taxis cannot do )
Breakfast was included so the hotel is good value. Our only complaint is that there is no air conditioning only a fan so our room was rather too warm.
The staff were pleasant and friendly and the location is very good for the city centre and shopping mall.

The location is perfect, it's attached to the Luton Point Mall building & is within walking distance of shopping markets, transit centers, facilities, the Luton airport & other useful points of interest. Unfortunately, cleanliness of the rooms isn't their strong point. The building isn't ventilated so chances are summer is going to be very hot in the rooms. They advertise gym access but one needs to sign up with gym membership independently.

Dear t7ye9o594h, Thank you for your review. I am glad you found our location convenient. To clarify, our building does have ventilation. While window openings are restricted due to safety regulations for our multi-story building, they can still be opened for fresh air. Additionally, rooms are equipped with ventilation ducts that operate under a central system. If you experienced any issues, we would have been happy to assist or offer an alternative room. Regarding gym access, we do not have a gym on-site. This may have been incorrectly listed by a third party. If you could share the website where you found this information, we will work to have it corrected. In the meantime, we sincerely apologize for any confusion. We appreciate your feedback and will address your concerns to improve future stays. We hope to welcome you back for a more comfortable experience. Best regards, Khawar M. We stayed here for 1 night before going away. The hotel didn't look good from the outside but as we walked inside we were pleasantly surprised. It was welcoming, fresh and clean. The staff were all helpful (although it looked like they were understaffed)
The room was clean, plenty big enough with a good size TV and bathroom (The shower was good)
The hotel arranged a taxi to the airport for us (ÂŁ15) but did explain and offer advice on bus servuces for people looking for a cheaper alternative.
Breakfast was a better selection than we expected - Cooked and continental, fresh & tasty
Con: No kettle in the room but tea & coffee was free and available in reception downstairs 24/7
All in all for less than ÂŁ50 per night (per room) for a hotel near the airport I was very happy and would return again when flying from Luton.

Very nice clean hotel
Free breakfast Comfy bed
Lots of sockets in the room
Lots of hot water but the shower is for short people and is over the bath
Very busy hotel
Relaxing lobby with lots of seating and free tea and coffee.
TV in my room kept switching off
Room has an ironing board and minisafe and anti theft hangers. Also a hair dryer and an extendable cord for putting wet underwear on across the bath
Access to lift and room by key card.
The managers and receptionists should smile more because they are a bit cold towards the clients. Not bad for a budget hotel

In the town centre clean and overnight parking £10, only booked as travelling from Luton Airport early morning flight so basically needed a bed and bathroom for a few hours sleep. It is basic and budget style but the cheap price reflected that. Friendly staff, free tea and coffee and room upgraded for free. It’s ideal for a place to stay close to airport, no frills but cheap.

The beds were firm but good. Room was well equiped, would of liked 2 chairs seeing we were a party of 2. Lots of noise from outside, ventilators down below. Bathroom door had no hardware to close it. Extra toiletroll near the floor could be placed higher.
Some final dusting in room would have been appriciated.
Breakfast not 4 star worthy, i can see that others might think so but looking at the scrambled eggs and dried out vega sausage didn't do it for me.
Furthermore, trying to find your way by car up to their front entrance is like a labyrinth. We ended up parking in the garage of the mall next door.

Dear Marjoleind599, Thank you for your recent stay and for taking the time to share valuable feedback with us. I will make sure to pick up your feedback with our head housekeeper to improve the room cleanliness. I am sorry to see that we could not meet your expectations in regards to breakfast. As a 3 star budget hotel we do not have the pretentions to offer a luxury 4 star service but still aim to do it right. I will make sure that our kitchen team keeps all items fresh and appealing at all time. I am constantly reviewing the ways to improve access to the hotel and will make sure to review this again. Stayed here for 1 night. Hotel is basically based in a shopping Mall in the town centre so great location for shopping, restaurants and bars but like most city centres some parts seemed rough. There was a chargeable car park and check-in was quick & easy with the reception just consisting of a column desk.
As you enter the room there was a full length mirror followed by an open hanging area with a small open cupboard inside, a safe on top of the cupboard and a hair dryer inside the cupboard. Then there was a desk with a flat-screen TV and a circular mirror above. The double bed was comfortable with a headboard that had a bedside shelf & a lamp either side.
Breakfast was in the area where the reception column was and the area consisted of plenty of seating areas of padded seats and bar stool type communal seating. Tea/coffee & water was complimentary availble 24 hrs. Breakfast was buffet style from a small room which made social distancing a challenge at peak times but hot & cold food was available with an adequate variety but at times with a wait for replenishing.

I had a one-night stay at the Thistle Hotel in Luton, which proved to be an excellent choice for a stopover when catching a flight or heading to London. The reception staff were impressively polite and helpful, and the hotel room provided the cleanliness and comfort I needed after experiencing flight delays. Nestled on the 9th floor, my room boasted a cozy bed and convenient proximity to both the rail and bus terminals, as well as the bustling town of Luton for any last-minute essentials. I'll definitely consider staying here again.
I Decided on a walk from main bus terminal Regrettably, the hotel's location on the main high street (town) wasn't ideal.
I arrived late on a Friday night and found the atmosphere around the hotel less than pleasant.
There were some uncomfortable feelings with individuals in the vicinity ( Galaxy Bar) and the square adjoining , including a few concerning incidents in the reception area. ( very drunk women) Nevertheless, I proceeded directly to my room, which offered a safe and comfortable retreat.

To start with, staying in August in this hotel when it's over 22 degrees outside I was so grateful that there was an Aircon unit in the room. I then went to operate the unit and it lit up but didn't do anything.
The room is a 12ftx10ft grey room with a double bed and that's about it. They've put a fan in the room, I'm guessing to compensate for the lack of Aircon but I can't wait to sleep with that on tonight!
Floor is dirty, bathroom is dirty, literally the most basic of basic!
If you have to book a room, plead with your work to book elsewhere or just stay somewhere else, anywhere, a campsite, it will be better equipped and cleaner

Dear ChrisW5188, First of all, let me apologies for failing in meeting your expectations on this occasion. The hotel does not have air conditioning in any room and we do not advertise as having any. To make your stay as comfortable as possible in this unprecedent temperature, we have provided a fan in every room. I am sorry to see that the cleanliness of the room was not the standard we expect. We normally pride ourselves to maintain the highest cleaning standards possible. We are as well in the process to refresh our bathroom as some of them may look a bit dated. Be reassure that even in those rooms the hygiene standards remains our priority. Our room provides all basic needs you may have with in room safe, iron with ironing table and hairdryer. Bottomless tea and coffee is available from our lobby area as well as free breakfast for all of our guest. I hope to see you back in a cooler period as I am convince we can met your expectations. My stay at the Thistle Hotel in Luton was wonderful. I do agree with a couple of other reviewers, the hotel is a little harder to find, especially if you’re arriving later in the evening, especially if you’re not familiar with the area. Booking in was easy and the staff were helpful, professional and friendly.
After booking and reading some of the comments, I have to admit to being a little worried about my stay. However after arrival at the hotel, these concerns were short-lived, I have to question some of the negative points I have read as personally I found the hotel to be very well decorated, clean and well presented. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming, they were professional and friendly. On the whole they were very hospitable, which made me feel completely at ease and very comfortable in and around the hotel.
It has to be noted that it is a town center location and therefore, as with any town or city center, you have to have be aware of safety, when out and about late at night. Unlike a couple of other remarks, in the 5 days I stayed at the hotel, I didn’t come across any dubious characters around the hotel and I felt safe at all times. Being a smoker I stood outside the hotel on many occasions during my visit, the hotel staff were frequently cleaning the area and checking on the vehicles in the car park.
The public areas, lifts and hallway were all very clean and well decorated. The room I stayed in was just perfect; it was fresh, clean and well maintained. The bathroom was in good order, a lovely cast iron bath and shower, with plenty of room for all your toiletries. Bath and shower gel are provided and are of a good quality. There was a shaver point and even one for the toothbrush. There were extras in the room, that aren’t always provided by some, an Iron, Ironing board and hairdryer for example and even a safe.
The bedding was crisp and clean, my only issue was the lack of pillows (only one), saying that, a simple call or visit to reception and extras were gladly provided.
I’m not sure if it was due to Covid19, but during my stay 4 day there was no room service, so things like change of towels, the making of the bed and emptying the bin wasn’t done. I can only assume that these can be requested and I doubt there would have been any problems asking. There was a very efficient radiator in the room, and the towels were dry by the evening anyway.
With the coronavirus restrictions breakfast was collected at reception in a bag. There was a lovely bacon bap, pastries, croissants, butter and jam and a bag of fresh fruit. On the first day it included a cartoon of fruit juice, it would have been nice every day. Everything was very fresh and the bacon was wonderful, excellent quality. Tea and coffee are always available at reception, you do have to ask each time, but it’s always served with a smile.
I will definitely be staying again. Thanks

PS I think singe fare was 1.75GBP 0r 2GBP last time I used it late 2024. Probably not more than 2GBP in 2025-could be up to 3GBP one way if prices still go up in 2025.
Free tea and coffee help yourself dowstairs near reception. There is a large bar and eatery a few minutes walk across the Square from the shopping centre. Also a very good fresh Italian Pizza place over the square, where they do take away or eat in.
