Only popped in for a pint while walking through Scarborough. Loved it. Staff very friendly and a lovely pub inside. Also the first pub we've found selling draft Brewdog, which wasn't a brewdog pub. So a pint of 5am Saint was a must! Only there 40mins, but would go back, and would recommend. Irish themed bar, lots of live music... More

Walking back from the harbour on a Sunday evening came across The Merchant. It was obviously very popular, especially on a Sunday evening so we went in. We found that it was an Irish bar with two folk singers performing. Most of the patrons were not Irish. Anyway, the sounds and beer was good so we stayed for a couple.

Although we have not stayed in this hotel, we have visited the bar on numerous occasions. It is a good traditional Irish music bar just back from the seafront in Scarborough. Various different bands and musicians play there with guests joining in. The Guinness is excellent and the bar has a vast assortment of different Scotch whiskey and Irish Always... More

On a midweek break away with my wife and having tried a couple of bars around Scarborough with disappointed results were very happy to stumble across 'The Merchant Irish Bar' on a Wednesday evening. What a cracking little bar, great decor, cosy, friendly and brilliant atmosphere. Icing on the cake - live music and brilliant musician Alistair James. We were... More

An excellent pub with amazing whiskey menu giving informative summaries on history and taste. Tried a few bourbons I hadn't had before and wasn't disappointed....even pushed boat out to a £10 malt so impressed were we. Welcoming staff are attentive and knowledgeable. Dog friendly with provision for water. Some good tunes too with regular live music on offer. A great... More

I stayed at the Merchant hotel. We hired the whole place for a family birthday (with 13 people) The accommodation was lovely and very suitable for the big group, however it really put a dampener on the end of a lovey trip when the woman from the Merchant let herself in at 10am on the dot to stand and stare... Only called for a pint but was surprised how many people were in for a cold Saturday in March. Bar was dog friendly but some of the dogs were not with the other dogs. Friendly and welcoming staff with a good selection of beers

You're hit by a wave of pleasant smells from the wood fire as you step through the door. I completely forgot I was in Scarborough for a moment. There's a great selection of beers and whiskeys here. Great atmosphere. Great Pub.
