Stayed a week while fishing the River Dee in early June. Pieter and Lea made us very welcome. My room was on the ground floor, very large with a large bathroom. Quiet. Good breakfasts. Comfortable bed. Car parking at the rear out of sight so we could leave our fishing rods on the car. Very close to the village centre... More

I had a lovely room with even a window in the bathroom. Very friendly owners serving a hearty breakfast, giving good tips for dining, creating a very free atmosphere. Good situation on a main street, but not noisy at all.

We don't stay at B &B's but needs must when we visited Ballater to meet with friends who were staying locally. We did a little research and found this establishment via the Internet and unusually for us we didn't even check trip advisor, when we arrived the house looked great from the outside and we received a nice welcome from... Pieter, the proprietor, is typically Dutch: tall, forthright and with a mischievous sense of humour. Some people have likened the experience of staying at Moorside to Fawlty Towers and it's true to say that in the dining room, Pieter morphs into a benign Basil but the breakfast banter is part of the fun of of staying at this efficiently run... We have spent another 8 nights at this excellent guest house. We enjoy the informal atmosphere, being able to come and go as we please and the lovely room that we are given each year. There is plenty of choice in the excellant breakfasts.

We have been coming to Ballater over many years, regularly staying at Moorside and this year our visit for 7 nights contained the high standard of welcome, accommodation and breakfast we have always enjoyed. The homemade bread, muesli, jam and muffins along with a wide selection of cooked breakfast options is unusual in a guest house and we have stayed... More

Great location. Unfriendly rushed welcome by host. Quite rude at times. Accommodation a little tired. Lovely homemade pancakes for breakfast. A shame we couldn't access wifi due to not being given a password. Should be easily sorted but was made to feel like it was too much trouble. Beautiful area to stay in but disappointed with level of hospitality offered... More

We chose this B&B due to Balatter's location in proximity of the Balmoral Castle. The room we were given was average in size, very clean with a comfortable bed. Bathroom was not too small, not too big either, and very clean. Breakfast was very good, everything fresh and homemade. There are a number of places to eat within 10-15 minutes... More

The only thing not perfect about our stay here was I had not booked long enough. This was an overnight stay as part of a tour of Scotland to take in Balmoral Castle. Big mistake. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by the owner Pieter he was the most helpful and welcoming host I have experienced anywhere I... More
