The Howard Lodge is well presented and well organised B&B. We were so pleased that the small carpark had enough space for us although there is other parking nearby. Our room was reasonably well equipped as was the large en suite. There was a good sized tv, a comfortable bed and plenty of in-room tea and coffee. The small bathroom's decor was a bit tired but was more than adequate especially as the Howard Lodge had the best fluffy towels of our whole trip. The shower was ok. Breakfasts were well cooked and tasty with plenty of toast. Many of the items available for breakfast came in tubs as individual portions, which was a good idea.
In summary, this is a well run, traditional B&B. We even had a bit of a view from the bedroom with the Cumbrian hills in the far distance.

I stayed here with 3 friends for one night whilst we were walking Hadrian’s Wall. It’s not far off the route and is well situated to get to the centre of Carlisle. The owner is really friendly and very well organised. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious and we were also supplied with very tasty packed lunches. All in all, I would thoroughly recommend it.

I arrived late with a party of cyclists, and our hosts couldn’t do enough for us. Our bikes were safely stored away, and our shirts were washed ready for the next day.

The guest house was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was excellent, with a good choice of food and drinks.

The location is very convenient, only a short walk from the city centre. The guest house has its own car park, which is a real benefit.

We stayed here for 1 night while walking Hadrian's Wall Path.
The hosts were very friendly & welcoming and the rooms comfortable, though looking a bit tired.
The lodge is very conveniently located from the end of the path & also into the city for restaurants etc.
Breakfast was very good & packed lunches offered if required.

Tony and Charlotte are fabulous hosts. Excellent breakfast and the best sandwich I’ve had in my life! They were very welcoming and helpful. Be prepared to carry heavy luggage up several flights of stairs depending where your room is located.

We had a wet, tiring and miserable day walking. So the warm (in every sense) welcome really picked us up. The location is not too far off the path and is great for a short walk to some good restaurants. The guest house as everything you need. Is quiet and homely. A good breakfast and packed lunch were provided. So it ticked all of the boxes.

We have stayed here a few times and it is always excellent.

This was our first visit since COVID and I must say a lot of good hotels could learn a thing or two from staying at Charlotte and Tony’s. They had everything under total control.

Friendly welcome, comfortable bed, excellent breakfast and a very safe environment.

Thank you!

Charlotte and Tony were perfect hosts. Charlotte couldn’t do enough for all her guests. Recommended places to eat in the evening. (Would recommended the Greek restaurant down the road) Rooms were clean, with nice bedding. The rooms are blandly decorated, but this is a B&B not a 5* hotel. Breakfast is really tasty and so much choice it does compete with a 5* hotel. Would thoroughly recommend staying here.

This was a great place to be while visiting the city. We hiked Hadrian's Wall path, and this was Day 2--and a wonderful way to end our first day of hiking. I totally recommend this place. The owner mentioned that she's busy nearly all year because of the city location, so make sure you book early!

Host was lovely and very welcoming. This was our first stop on our Hadrians Wall trek. It is conveniently located but the place needs updating as it is looking very 70s.

Breakfast was very good and the social distancing measures were very thorough.

So sorry I have only just seen this post! I am not sure about October - but while we were there in the Summer months there was a minibus that ran back and girth along the wall. If you Google Hadrian's Wall Bus you will find a link to the timetable. I tried to paste it, but this site wouldn't let me!
