Stayed here whilst working in Carlisle and fancied somewhere a bit different. The hotel is full of low ceilings and original beams as you would expect from a 17th coaching house. The room was warm and the bed was comfortable. We ate in the bar. The food was gorgeous with plenty of choice. Busy with locals and lots of atmosphere.The... More

If, like us, you need a stopover en route to the highlands from the south, this is perfect. It is quiet and comfortable with an excellent restaurant and bar. The only criticism of the room is the shower.

The hotel seems to be very well maintained. The room itself was very clean and fresh. The staff were very polite. It is a venue that I would choose to stay at again. However if you want very good mobile reception you will be disappointed. It is a bit variable. That's no criticism of the hotel.

It turned out to be a little gem. The String of Horses is a lovely quaint little inn. The room was well decorated, comfortable... More

Stayed for two nights, room very clean, tea and coffe facilities in room. Bar opens at 5 and serves fabulous food until 8.30 we ate in there both nights. Breakfast was delicious. A warm welcome when we arrived, staff all very friendly, very helpful. Would return again can not fault it.

Charming inn tucked back in a quiet neighborhood near Carlisle, Hadrian's Wall and the Lake District. The inn was built in the 1600's and includes many original fittings that add to the ambiance. We were greeted warmly and our family room for four was spotless, large and comfortable, as was the en suite bath. Don't miss dinner at the historic... More

A quaint country inn with very comfortable modern room. Real wood burning stoves and fires which were very welcome on chilly summer evening. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food good with a varied menu but be warned portions huge. Breakfast delicious and nothing was two much trouble..
