It is some time since I stayed here so in giving it another try I was pleasantly surprised to see various improvements that were much needed. Friendly check in with complimentary glass of wine was much appreciated after a five hour drive north. The room was fresh and very clean and comfortable.

My wife and I discovered this grand hotel when our daughter graduated from the University of Cumbria in November. We decided to return for a bit of R&R during an overnight stay. We had cocktails in the bar, a lovely dinner in the Peace & Plenty Resturant, and retired to our modern room, which overlooked the city square. Before we...

Stayed for business and it was great. Restaurant was good, food was good, staff were ok. The main parts of the hotel were nice but it does need a...

The hotel is in a wonderful location, providing easy access to the city. The room, though recently been redecorated and refurbished, was relatively small for the price and warmer than necessary (it appeared the heating could not be regulated). The bed/mattress was very comfortable - the room's best feature! Breakfast was lovely and both hotel and restaurant staff were warm...

When you first go into hotel it look really nice. The room I was in had no heating in the bathroom which was really cold. Room was really in need...

This hotel is a lovely grand old building but in need of some TLC. My room was rather tired with a shabby bathroom which didn't inspire me to wash in it. The curtains were blackened at the bottom. My room faced the street and the old windows don't block out the noise. It was comfy enough for a one night...

This hotel is really well located. The rooms are a good size and well equipped. If taking a car, you need to contact the hotel for the correct postcode for the car park - it isn't the hotel postcode!!!
