Stayed two nights. We should have realised when they demanded full payment on arrival - if we had we would have rebooked for the second night. Despite an apparently good location and some history the hotel has obviously had no money spent on it for some time. Rooms were poor (to the extent that we had to ask for a... More

Rooms are tired and scruffy, just like the receptionist. At the moment I have been woken at 3.49am by a noisy fan somewhere at the rear of the building (I am in room 306) that is keeping me awake. The food would cause a riot in a prison, it is that poor. I would be embarrassed to serve it to... More

We arrived about 6.30 on a Friday evening after a long 9 hour journey looking forward to our break and meeting up with family and long lost friends from Carlisle. We had booked in for 3 nights, however in checking in we was told it was for 2 nights! The young man checked again and all was sorted. We received... More

I travelled with a coach company for a 4 night stay at this old fashioned hotel. Yes the decor could do with updating in the rooms but seemed ok elsewhere. Check in was quick and each staff member I dealt with over the course of 5 days was very polite and helpful. There are information racks with leaflets in reception.... More

Make sure you have a back room if you stay here over a weekend the street noise was extremely loud until the early hours. The room had no aircon so it was extremely hot in the night. The decor is old fashioned and the room could do with some up dating. We paid £50 for the night and I wouldn't... More

Very tired and dated. Room was overly warm and stuffy, dirty cups on tray, no case racks, dirty bathroom floor and tiles, shower was just a trickle. Afternoon receptionist very helpful but evening one wasn't and quite brusque.

Arrive at Carlisle station and you cannot miss the Castle or I need this hotel about a 100 m walk to top of the exit and it is over the road on the right. The greeting was below average and one person carried on with their task awaiting for someone else to check me in. The room was large and... More

this hotel is very good and all the original victorian features have been kept making it a very interesting and eye catching building. I see some reviews talking about the hotel being "tired and shabby", they obviously don't get it! and the food was lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful, whats not to like?

Reception very helpful the room was clean all fresh bedding plenty of towels, tea coffee good selection of biscuits. Bathroom was clean but really need to be updated toilet was a... More

After reading the reviews about this hotel we where not looking forward to our stay so checked the rooms before deciding to stay, the hotel is a bit dated but the rooms are clean and staff are very helpful and friendly, even the cleaning lady was a joy to chat with. The location is central for train station (1 min)... More
