Warwick Hall Estate offers luxurious hotel accommodation two miles from Carlisle and the M6 at Exit 43 junction with the A69. Perfect for a stopover on the road north (dogs welcome!) or stay a while if you have time to explore Hadrian's Wall and the beautiful Border countryside. Private house parties are our specialty - it's what the house was built for. Take over the entire house with its nine en suite bedrooms for exclusive use. Delicious food, excellent wine, afternoon tea in front of roaring log fires, and everything done just as it should be. You'll find long beautiful walks on the estate right out the front door. Two miles of riverbank on the River Eden through ancient beech avenues, a huge walled garden, things to do, places to go.

We were travelling from Cornwall to Perthshire and broke our journey at Warwick Hall which is literally only minutes from Exit 43 on the M6 - absolutely ideal .
Our whole experience was just amazing from the moment we arrived until we left.
Our bedroom was large, light with the most wonderful view over the garden, grounds and river, with plenty of lights and comfortable chairs and our bed was one of the most comfortable I have every slept in - the bathroom was HUGE with a great shower, loads of fluffy towels, great toiletries.
Dinner was served in a delightful dining room and there was a huge choice (6 in total of each course) and each course was delicious. After dinner we retired to the delightful drawing room with a real log fire, loads of comfy chairs, books to read, games to play and chatted to all the other guests.
Breakfast was another excellent experience too.
Val Marriner, the owner, is a delight.
I cannot recommend Warwick Hall highly enough and will probably go back and stay more than one night

We have just returned home wonderfully soothed and rejuvenated, after a two-day mini break at Warwick Hall. We'd seen it on TV, receiving the Alex Polizzi treatment and thought it might be a good place for our Wedding Anniversary treat.
Val and Nick generously share their marvellous home and it's spectacular grounds, with their guests. You are warmly welcomed, shown to your beautifully proportioned and well appointed room and invited to wander as you desire, with your well behaved dog, enjoying unbridled freedom in their extensive parkland. The gentle river Eden glistens in the sunlight to touch your soul and a stroll around the restored and in-use walled garden, is a rare treat.
Our food was absolutely superb, and we are discerning foodies, with one of us a talented chef in our own right. We ensured Val heard our praise for her new chef, whose slow-cooked beef was the best I'd eaten, in a very long time.
The wine selection was eclectic and maybe a little pricey but when one is genuinely relaxed and wonderfully looked after, that seems a churlish point to linger on.
Alex Polizzi, you must be so proud of your protégés at Warwick Hall. We shall return, for certain. Thank you Val, Nick, their excellent team and Rhubarb too. We loved it! 🥇

The River suite was not fit for purpose and unclean. We checked in on the 8.10.21 and unpacked and took our dog for a long walk. On our return we started to notice serious issues of cleanliness and general upkeep. In the kitchen there were cobwebs with dead flies attached behind the microwave . Same of high areas in kitchen. Rusty oven tray and dirty metal scourer in oven. Shower head was covered in gunge. Paint work in bathroom was appalling. Stains on carpet in bedroom. We reported this to the manager who had a look and agreed it was not at all acceptable and said he would agree a 50 percent discount. Security light at steps to the suite entrance wasn’t working , as a result accessing the suite in darkness.one of the bathroom lights not working also. Skirting boards in lounge hadn’t seen a duster in quite some time( there was a mascara pencil stuck to the skirting) later that evening the female owner confronted me and had been made aware of the issues. She was very abrupt and suggested we checked out if we weren’t happy. ( no offer of a full refund with this retort ) I removed myself from the conversation with her as she was lacking in even basic customer service skills . Later that evening we cancelled breakfast as by this point we were concerned about hygiene across the property. When we were getting organised to leave maintenance came to fix the security light, so much for privacy as they had full view of the lounge we were in. Coffee jar had about 4 tablespoons of congealed instant coffee and while packing up found 2 used earplugs in the bedroom beside drawer , left from the last occupants. All for the princely sum of £213.00. Our lovely Spaniel Tosca ( who was not greeted very nicely by the resident Dog Rhubarb ) enjoyed some lovely walks , location was only positive.

We stayed here for two nights based on the TA reviews and the fact that the area was in tier 2 which helped us reduce our search area and find somewhere new. The property is stunning and exactly to our taste being both grand but also warm and welcoming. Every member of staff we came across was just delightful and so friendly and Val the owner was just fantastic. Such a lovely, hardworking and kind lady I could have spent all day just talking to her. Our room (River Suite) was excellent, great facilities and the views of the river were to die for. Our kitchen was stocked with coffee, tea bags and fresh milk in the fridge. Really nice toiletries in the bathrooms with robes and a super powerful power shower. We walked each day and then came back and lit the open fire for cosy nights in after a lovely meal nearby. Just what we needed to relax and unwind in these crazy pandemic times that we now live in. If I could I would be there every weekend but without doubt we will be revisiting again and again as the place and people just captivated us from start to end.

My wife and I just had a single night stay at Warwick Hall as an overnight stop on the way to
Edinburgh. This was a great place to find.

All the staff made us welcome from the off and we had booked a suite for the overnight stay, and we ended up in the Birdie Suite. This suite is an exceptionally large room with a larger separate sitting / living area / large super king size bedroom and again large bathroom with bath and over shower. The suite was super clean throughout and had many added bonus’s such as a selection of books and DVD’s for use on maybe not so kinder weather days. There is of course a wide screen TV on the wall, DVD / CD player and a docking station for MP3 player. To summarise the suite was a great place to be with fantastic views of the river and grounds of the hall itself.

The food in the restaurant is also first class – offering a 2 or 3 course set rate with a choice of the usual – steaks and fish plus some more unusual dishes – I chose the duck breast dish which was a really tasty dish with my wife choosing a great steak. An extensive wine list and bar complimented the dining experience, after which we had a coffee and nightcap in the relaxing lounge (drawing room) which had an inviting open fireplace and comfortable seating. Breakfast the following morning was the usual hotel menu, pastries, cereals, full English etc. Again, great food.

The whole hotel itself is a very dog friendly place. The one thing that is a little more unusual about the place is that the owner’s dog (Rhubarb) has a free run about the place and is very friendly. He will have a wander into the dining room and will receive attention if you want to give it and if not, the staff will call him away and he makes his way back out. We loved seeing him in the hotel and he is obviously used to a lot of people and the attention that brings. When we return here again, which we will definitely do then we will also take along our dog, as the rooms, hotel and grounds are all dog friendly, and we know that he will enjoy the stay as much as we will.
We were due to return this weekend, but an unfortunate family issue prevented us in the end from going. We will definitely return as soon as we possibly can.

This is a great find and was all too shorter stay – a further stay is on the cards and we cannot wait to return.

We stayed here for three nights having glimpsed the Hall from the road bridge a few weeks earlier.
On arrival we realised this was not your average hotel, or B&B as is rather downplays itself from the entrance sign.
The welcome was very casual as Rhubarb the owner's pointer was the first to welcome us to the Hall.
We were then shown to our room, through the tackle room. The room has stunning river views, as an angler this was exciting stuff as the view of the river is magnificent in the Autumn colours.
The room itself was a suite suitable for a couple and child, large, comfortable and clean. The bed was huge and comfy.

Breakfast was excellent with all you might expect including superb honey from the owner's hives.

Dinner is at 19.30, again the standard was very high. The starter of Black pudding haggis with a poached egg and a rasher of local bacon was one of the best entrees I have eaten. The new chef is clearly a good addition to the house.
My only suggestion would be to have some light piano music or similar to ease those 'silent' moments in a large dining room.
Rhubarb liked to check the guests were enjoying dinner, she is however very courteous.

If you are not a dog lover:
1. what's wrong with you?
2. you may prefer a different hotel.

Fishing is arranged through the owner and his excellent and engaging Ghillie - Graham.
The fishing is again, superb.

A wondeful and relaxing stay - we really did not want to leave.

We are a family of 3 from Scotland and we stayed at Warwick Hall on a trip to the Carlisle area. What a lovely experience. On arrival, it has all the traditional English country charm. But this isn’t just a traditional exterior with the usual overly upgraded interior that takes away all the charm. Everything is beautiful and retained in the style of what it is... a stately home!

Before being shown to our rooms, we were given a tour of the public rooms, including the self service bar, sitting room, terrace and dining room. We soon were on the terrace with G&T overlooking the beautiful riverside location.

We opted for the evening dinner, which was outstanding, in terms of food and service, followed by an evening in the sitting room with the company of other guests.

You will probably pay a little bit more for this than you would for some typical chain hotels, but give yourself a treat....we did!

We chose this hotel due to its excellent location between England and north Scotland. We thought it would be a great way to break up the journey between London and Aberdeen on the way to spend time with family at Christmas.

We needed it to be dog friendly as we have two small dogs. Val and I emailed beforehand about dogs and menus, and all very friendly and welcoming.

The website also says that their hotel dog Rhubarb “loves having new friends to play with” under their dog friendly section, suggesting no issues to consider.

Unfortunately within 2 minutes of arriving the owner came out in to the car park to show us to our room, only for his dog to follow. There's no other word to describe this but within an instant savaged our Boston terrier picking her up and swinging her about like a rabbit. Our dogs were leashed, Rhubarb was not.

Although the owner palmed off the incident initially saying "dogs are resilient things", a closer inspection in the light showed their dog had sunk its teeth in to ours, tearing off a two pound coin size piece of skin, plus a couple of other teeth marks through the skin under her fur.

We asked the owner for the number of a local vet and the number he gave us ended up being for the local fish and chip shop so by this point as the dog was bleeding badly at this point, we made our own arrangements and found a brilliant vet 20 minutes away who was just closing up for Christmas. They stayed open, took her in immediately for sedation and a procedure to wash the wounds and stitch her up.

Being a dog owner, I know these things can happen, dogs can be territorial. However, despite the hotel owner offering to pay the bill which was appreciated, there was no apology of any sort (in fact an air of annoyance towards us that it had even happened), and the once friendly Val made sure to not leave the kitchen to even say hello. Odd behaviour in my opinion, and I know there are other reviews suggesting the dog is kept away from public places, so not sure what else has happened previously.

The main feedback I would give is don't make out the hotel dog is friendly on your website, if there is even a chance he could do this sort of thing. If you are staying at the hotel do not trust their dog, even though the website says different.

I'm not normally a complainer but our dog has been traumatised since, becoming allergic to the post op drugs with another emergency vet elsewhere costing another few hundred pounds to check her and change her meds.

The house itself was nice, the restaurant staff lovely and attentive at dinner and breakfast. The food was top notch, and the chef opened slightly earlier to give us dinner before having to collect our dog from the vets mid evening.

Unfortunately, the damage caused to our dog makes it necessary to flag the need for caution around theirs, which obviously marred the start to our Christmas get away.

Definitely “Monty Python” with the American proprietor playing John Cleese! Booking system, a shamble with lost bookings, wrong booking and don’t expect the room you booked. Odd, the proprietor sits at a desk in the drawing room quietly listening to her guests, even though she has an office nearby! Proprietor also has an extensive vocabulary of excuses! Rooms vary greatly with the best room being lovely but the worst is damp! Three course dinner at a fixed £36 plus extra for coffee is expensive with no options for one or two courses. Overcharge on check-out. Pity as a lovely setting and comfortable public areas – however we shall avoid when staying in the area next time.

Hi So sorry for the delay When we were there they were only serving on certain evenings. But I think they have found a new chef, so I would check with them. Yes I believe all rooms are en-suite and some of the bathrooms are amazing.

There are no spa facilities at Warwick Hall. There is a good spa at the Crown Hotel in Wetheral, open to non residents - about a mile away from Warwick Hall. Alternatively there are beautiful long walks - 4 miles - on the estate here at Warwick, with luxurious bathrooms to come home to.
