We stayed here for 5 nights in October. The location can't be beaten - we paid for a quayside view which was lovely and it was so close to loads of restaurants and pubs. It is your typical corporate hotel - the layout, the decor etc, but it was a really good base. I was really impressed with the covid measures in place. I really felt at ease. All the staff were friendly - really helpful reception staff - organising a taxi for us to Rick Stein's restaurant. The young guy and girl who work in the restaurant - mainly at breakfast - are a great advert - they are pleasant, engaging and interested in their guests (a couple of mistakes are easily overlooked if the attitude is right). The leader seemed less interested unless the customers were younger - which is hard when there are coach loads of older people staying! The food is pretty ordinary - we had one evening meal when we arrived, which was edible but nothing to write home about. This leads on to the 'niggles' that are so easy to solve. Firstly, the english breakfast advertises 'mushrooms' - but it's only ever half a field mushroom. We found it funny but we overheard others comment too. The cups in our room weren't cleaned twice and I had to go to reception for more tea and coffee as not replaced - these should be on any chambermaid's checklist. The towels often smelt of baby sick - is the closest I can describe. Initially I thought this was a one-off and asked for replacements. They were fine, but then some of the subsequent towels also smelt the same. I think you need to discuss what your laundry uses - as, when you dry yourself off, the wetter they are, the more they smell! (and leaves your body smelling of it too) Finally, don't carry out staff appraisals in the restaurant - I learnt about the staff relationships etc without listening very hard (even with social distanced tables) The rooms are pleasant, the bed was really comfy and it was just the right temperature. There was so much right about the hotel - I am only pointing out things that would elevate the experience. I would definitely stay there again as it was good value and, as I say, a great location.…
Had a lovely afternoon tea here today. £21.95 for two with a glass of prosecco each and unlimited tea. The most amazing view from the restaurant area. One warm scone each with clotted cream and jam. A selection of miniature cakes and a few finger sandwiches. A really lovely afternoon tea and fantastic price. Would definitely return.
We had a super time. Hotel staff were welcoming and professional. Lovely views from our room and the restaurant. The food was great, loved the way breakfast was brought to us, no self service. We loved the relaxed and calm atmosphere.
This tired old building is due for demolition - don't be put off as it's an excellent location, and a very friendly place to stay. Excellent parking. Lovely view over Poole Harbour. Happy to recommend to everyone.
