Travelers' Choice
This artfully designed boutique Hotel and Restaurant in Suffolk reflects luxury and dazzles in the waterfront of Ipswich's vibrant Harbour quayside at night. The Salthouse Harbour Hotel goes beyond what you expect and exudes its 4 star status in every curious corner, eccentric sofa and unstuffy cushion. The sea-salted brickwork exterior has been restored & rejuvenated into a ship shape contemporary warehouse of rich modern interiors and rooms adorned with vintage furniture, sculptures and eclectic art. Within its comfy chic decor, although the mood is friendly and relaxed, the staff are professionally attentive to your every need. The cuisine is exciting and the popularity of the Salthouse Eaterie fills this delightful waterfront restaurant as soon as the tables are laid.

The hotel is in a great location with beautiful views of the marina. A great base for exploring or staying the night to see a show at the nearby theatre. It's a great bonus that there is a carpark next door which is free. The staff are very friendly. We only had breakfast which we could eat in the restaurant or they would bring it to your room for no additional cost. My only reason for giving it four stars was that we chose a room with a balcony as we like to sit outside but it's more of a juliet balcony where there was standing room only and u couldn't fit a chair on it. We would definitely return.

Excellent hotel. We stayed for our first getaway in 9 years (post children) to see Ed Stafford do a talk and have a special weekend. The hotel made it such an amazing experience. It is a boutique hotel and delivered everything we wanted and more! The staff were amazing, the rooms were incredible and the breakfast in bed was such a treat. It was a wet and cold weekend, but this hotel made it bright and sunny! The bar downstairs was fantastic and had a great atmosphere. We loved it and would recommend - it’s a couples getaway without kids ideally!

Large group of us stayed at the hotel. The staff were all super friendly and organised. Food was tasty. The room we stayed in was lovely (side view to harbour) big room with a kingside bed (no roll together) fancy coffee, tea and biscuits and complimentary water. Big bath room with a powerful shower and bath. Great location on the harbour. I’d definitely recommend staying here if you travel to Ipswich.

Such a treat to stay at the Salthouse. The view from our lovely big room complete with huge bed and view of the Marina was very welcome and unexpected as we had only booked a standard double room. Hotel busy but staff coped well and were welcoming for the 2 nights we were there. Food tasty and we enjoyed 2 lovely breakfasts both mornings. Always look forward to staying at the Salthouse.

This hotel in our opinion is excellent, we stayed in harbour view room on first floor, The staff were friendly, helpful. Room was spotlessly clean, beautiful view, bed so comfortable slept like a log , we didn't hear any noise from upper floor or nextdoor rooms . Food at dinner was delicious, breakfast lovely. No problem parking on site Public areas spotlessly clean. Just one negative and that is coffee at breakfast was a little tasteless but not the end of the world !!!

Stayed 2 nights at the hotel this week. Location on the harbour is lovely. The rooms are luxurious , stayed in a copper room and the view was stunning. Beds are super comfy with great bed linen. Excellent shower too. The big positive for the hotel is the staff. They are all so friendly and welcoming. Paolo went the extra mile, so helpful. A real asset to the hotel. When we checked out, bags weren’t just brought to reception, Paolo put the bags in the car and brought the car to the front of the hotel! The breakfast definitely worthy a mention too, excellent produce and presented really well.

I stayed for four nights as part of a group and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food choices were varied and delicious, dietary requirements - including my own gluten free diet - were dealt with efficiently and courteously. My room was large and comfortable, the shower excellent, the standard of cleanliness beyond reproach. Thoroughly recommend.

We visited the hotel yesterday for a late lunch of sandwiches, drinks etc. From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is wonderful and the food tasty. We can’t fault it! We had my 95 year old mother with us and she is quite frail but our waitress (Charlotte W) was just brilliant, we couldn’t have asked for a more helpful, pleasant young lady, she was very patient with us and helped my mother a lot. Customer service is just great! We will definitely visit again.

I visited this restaurant in August 2023, having bought a ‘luxury afternoon tea’ voucher for my best friend’s birthday back at the beginning of the year. The food was of very nice quality, and the service was good too, with very attentive staff. Overall, we had a pleasant experience. However, I was a little surprised when the bill came, as they had automatically added a 12.5% service charge described as ‘discretionary.’ I would normally happily pay this charge, as the service was so good, but it was a little insulting that it had already been added to the bill. This system of having to ask to remove it is outdated with the advent of card machines, where optional service charges can be added at the customer’s discretion, not automatically included in the bill. This is also not brilliant business, considering the cost of living crisis at the moment, where customers may feel too embarrassed to ask to remove it from the bill should they be unavailable to afford it. 12.5% is rather a large service charge, considering that what we ordered cost £34 each. I would appreciate it if the management could maybe take this into consideration for other customers, and make the service charge an optional ‘add on’, not one that is automatically appearing on the bill. That said, it was a lovely afternoon, so thank you so much to everyone at the hotel.

From the moment we arrived we felt welcome. The porters greeting was amazing (he simply couldn't do enough for us) and the reception staff were so helpful. We spent 2 lovely evenings there and sampled dinner which was delicious. Our room was a dog friendly room and it was stunning. The bed was so comfortable. Only thing I would say is we weren't fans of the shower curtain as the shower was so powerful the curtain kept blowing onto us!
