We were staying in the are for a few days and decided to treat ourselves. Afternoon teas can be very varied, and I hate it when they mess with a traditional success. They didn't here, and it was excellent. We had 2 x traditional afternoon tea, 1 x savoury afternoon tea, 1 x kids afternoon tea. All excellent, all finished. Friendly, helpful staff, quick service, bit faded but I like that! Recommended!

Hotel's Favorite
An impressive exterior (they don't call it the white palace for nothing) leads to some stunning classic interiors. Our room was large and well appointed, heavenly bedding and towels. Drinks in the bars or restaurants were consistently excellent. The Garden Restaurant for dinner and breakfast was well staffed and very good food and presentation. Mirabelle Restaurant for a taster menu with wine pairings (and fireworks outside) was a magical evening. Pool, spa and gym are all wonderful and spotlessly clean. Shout out to Steph for a relaxing massage and nice chat. This is an impressive hotel and not budget friendly but worth it. But the best thing is actually the staff. Everyone is super friendly, sincere and takes time to chat. Rita on reception is an example of the wonderful friendly service. Grazie bella! Really wonderful 4 days mini break for me and my new fiancé

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to note you enjoyed your food. It appears the issue with billing may have been made worse due to a new member of staff requiring more training, which is ongoing. We do hope that you will return to allow us to confirm our pride in delivering the very best of experiences to our guests. We are pleased the issues were rectified and apologise for the mistake on the day. With kind regards Samantha Browning - PA to GM

This was a Jekyll and Hyde stay. After two hours, I intended to leave, award no stars and complain strongly. After two comfortable nights and wonderful dining experiences, I was won over. After no reply after ten days to a letter sent to point out the difficulties I had faced, my concerns rose again. What is good. The comfortable, spacious bedrooms. The impeccable welcome and service in the dining room. The wonderful food. What is less good That dinner is not served after 830pm That the role of hotel manager seems ill suited to some staff who wore that title - one man flounced off in anger when he could have made things right. What is unacceptable The manners of some staff at reception - criticism rather than concern that I had arrived late. The refusal to allow one access to one’s room until card details had been checked again even though my card details had been with the hotel for over a week. The refusal of access to a cloakroom to wash after my late arrival - until my card detail had been checked. And my very late arrival - 925pm The fact that there was no initial ( within 10 days ) reply to my letter or concern - and that within the later reply there was no apology for the rudeness of some bthe staff I had encountered.

Our stay was booked for a relaxing birthday experience at a 5 star hotel. The positives. The meet and greet on arrival and reserved parking was excellent, the room size was very good and the view across the sea great. The negatives. Our son booked the break, including a massage and received a confirmation of the bottom asking about medical conditions but didn't pick up on that and as a result my wife was refused the massage. I suggested that medical form could be sent with bookings to prevent occurrences of this for future guests. We booked in the Mirabelle restaurant and as we ordered food were told the the meat option the Iberian pork there was only one portion left and so I had to opt for a fish dish as I don't like duck. The Iberian pork turned out to be very tough and very little taste. For anyone new to Iberian pork it's not meant to be like that if good. The fish dish was way over done, didn't taste like it was freshly cooked and served in a very watery substance, I'm not sure if it was meant to be a sauce. I suggested that we could have been offered an alternative dish from the alternative restaurant. The night we stayed there was the mayor's ball event. It may explain our poor restaurant experience, but that was not mentioned by way of the explanation of our experience, though it was suggested that to expect it to be as good as Spain was unrealistic. The event was noisy and the sound of music and voices outside continued to 11.30 pm. When raised as an issue it was suggested that we shouldn't have heard noise as our room was not directly above the event. However, the room was single glazed and sound travels. Breakfast is over priced, not a wide selection and not as good as many other local options. When voicing my views I was generally met with justification for what was offered and how much the least refurbishment cost and how expensive the place is to run. I did get a reduction off an over £500 bill, but even then I think I could have had a better room, better food and the booked massage for at least £200 less. Sadly I did have the expectation of a special experience with customer satisfaction paramount. For me a real live demonstration of why it's not worth paying a high price for hotels in the UK.

Based on the website and past reviews we had high hopes. Arrived at 3pm to check in- efficient and friendly. Dropped bags in room then straight down for afternoon tea booked for 3:15pm. Seated in comfy chairs in grand hall by the fireplace. 1 hour later and nothing had arrived. When it did turn up it was amazing. Given free mock tails. Went to room. Whilst clean and modern it lacked character- being an upgrade I wondered what a standard room was like. Everything functional so no issues. Dinner - oh dear. Nice location and presentation and lots of staff. Side plates, butter knife and butter but no bread rolls. None. Not offered even when requested. Our starters or soup and prawn cocktail were bread less. Main course possin was good but £30 but what was unfortunate was Grand Roast Chicken being plain small breast, one small block of potatoe and a few bits of broccoli and carrot with a tiny pot of gravy at £25 a total rip off. After a break we went to basement to try the spa. Very uninviting entrance and changing room but nice pool with a functional steam room. Spa bath was a deep tub of hot water with a few bubbles that didn’t make it a jacuzzi. Then went to bed to find the bed comfy and bathroom very nice. Breakfast in the morning was average over all due to poor coffee but porridge was nice. On the whole a grand venue that tries hard but is over priced. I will say the main bar cocktail service was amazing and worth the visit on its own. Came away with a £500 bill for one night when it should have been two nights….

From the very moment you pull into the car park, the sheer scale & grandeur of this beautiful hotel is evident. Not one, not two but three bell-men in their smart livery are so keen to help with your luggage & the reception staff are so welcoming. Chandeliers, columns & high, high ceilings greet you in the entrance lobby. Our bedroom was in one of the side wings, looking out to sea over the western gardens (see picture). Even as one of their less prestigious rooms, there were plenty of seating options & a wide range of hot beverages to settle you in. We treated ourselves to the Taster Menu in the Mirabelle restaurant: what a gastronomic delight! We’ll certainly never forget the dessert, as taste explosions went off in our mouths! The Garden restaurant breakfast experience was excellent. There was an enormous selection of delicious food & the staff were friendly & so helpful. Altogether worth every penny. Do go & experience it for yourselves, but don’t tell too many people; Eastbourne is Eastbourne’s best-kept secret…
