La Samanna, a Belmond Hotel in St Martin, garners high praise for its attentive service and luxurious amenities, including a beautiful beach and exquisite dining. The hotel's elegant atmosphere and clean, ocean-view rooms enchant many guests, though some feel the rooms could be refreshed. Its location is admired for its scenic beauty, reminiscent of the French Riviera, yet it's noted to be somewhat isolated for those looking to dine out. While the hotel's overall cleanliness and tranquil charm are celebrated, opinions on value vary, with some travelers mentioning high prices.

My partner and I took a last-minute getaway and booked our stay, never having stayed at a Belmond before. When we vacation, we normally stay at high-end properties like the Four Seasons, One and Only, etc so our standards were high. Check in was wonderful and we were greeted with a rum punch. Our room was very nice. Some elements looked a little banged up but very lovely and comfortable. The small kitchenette was ok, nothing special. We ended up switching rooms from a ground floor in building B to the 2nd floor, which had a balcony and a massive roof deck, which we enjoyed greatly. The room was towards the far end of the beach so very quiet and private. We were just steps from the actual beach, which I personally loved. I also appreciated the attentiveness of the beach staff, who would set up and reserve our loungers every morning, so never a feeling of pressure to run outside early and get a prime chair/spot. The water is gorgeous and warm and the beach very clean. The hotel has limited food options and the main restaurant on site was just ok for me dinner-wise. Lunches were pretty good, but water was $10 per bottle so a bit crazy. Breakfast was good, not the best I've ever had but nothing wrong with it at all. Overally I really loved this property and a lot of that is to do with the outstanding overall customer service from the team. For full transparancy, we did have an issue with the water in our room, where there was basically no hot water BUT the staff handled it beyond our expectations and we appreciated that greatly. Special call outs to Marc, Olivier, Marco, Hugo, Joycelene, plus our other friends serving us at lunch whose names we have sadly forgotten.

Dear jslachta, It was a pleasure to meet you and thank you for your kind and candid review. Thank you for the encouraging comments about the team and the hotel in general, especially the beach experience. We would also like to apologize for the hot water issue you experience around the same time as one of our last reviews, we now seem to have returned back to normal. We look forward to welcoming you back for an even better experience and wish you all the best, in the meantime. Warm regards, Eleonore Eleonore Astier-Petin General Manager Belmond La Samanna

Last June some friends my wife and I had spent an exceptional week so much so that we decided to return by ourselves in December canceling our stay at another destination.
WOW is how you feel when you step out of the airport transfer SUV into the lobby of La Samana! The decoration has transformed the quaint -- although lovely—surroundings into a soft theme of white and pastels! It’s just sensational…from the lobby, the Caribbean Sea is still as glorious and turquoise as I remembered it.
We were happy to be greeted this time again by the charming and energetic manager Eleanore obviously still running a tight ship and Mark Gerald at the front desk.

This year we treated ourselves to an Ocean suite and again the wow factor is in full effect! New decoration, furniture and meticulous attention to details make it simply spectacular. We were also happy to see that the seasonal currents shifting sand had made the beach wider and more comfortable than last June when it was a bit rocky.

Regarding the restaurants the breakfast buffet is sumptuous and the beach bar never disappoints. We had a couple of dinners upstairs and although one night the wait was a little long between courses, the fare was top-notch.

As I mentioned earlier, we feel that La Samana and its employees surpassed itself this time again. We are already looking forward to our stay next spring…until then!

La Samanna is better than ever with lovely acommodations that have been fully redecorated. Relaxing, calm and peaceful describe the aesthetic as well as the feel of our entire stay at this luxurious resort. Upon arrival we were greeted by GM Eleonore Astier-Petin who is warm and approachable and went out her way to make every guest feel at home. Her pride in the resort is evident by her willingness to do whatever it takes to support her staff. A delicious breakfast overlooking the sea is served by the most gracious team in the Caribbean. We had a hard time saying goodbye to Cindy, Alexandra, Madeleine, Joy and Elizabeth on our last day. Emanuel and Bertrand got our bags in and out of our room on both ends of our stay and made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable in between! Benji, Enzo and Richard at the beach were engaging and made sure we always had bottled water, fresh towels, lunch and frozen drinks while sitting by the sea! The housekeeping team was exceptional and we loved Thelimene who we saw frequently. We did miss visiting with our friend Adeline Chance who we hope will be back on the next visit! And YES we will be back to this fabulous resort for yet another exceptional stay!

Belmond Hotel was surprisingly
disappointing. Originally was a Rosewood property years back and fantastic. Best location on the island with a clean sandy beach.

Now supposedly upgraded redos, which seem questionable. Check In could not locate reservation and spoke little English. Elena took over and this went smoother.

At first glance the Suite was sumptuous. After a better look, tub drain all rusty and needs respackling. Shower tiles need a bleach cleaning.

Biggest issue was no hot water for 2 plus days. Not fixed or looked at by engineering. Had no idea why and was told by the front desk, to let the water run for 10 minutes. (which I did not want to do for sustainability alone) but was compelled to shower-Teeny bit warmer for 5 seconds and then cold.

Our amenity wine bottle was a lovely welcome gesture but housekeeping threw out the cork from the still 3/4 filled bottle. Upon check out a I got the hotel to find me a cork which they did. As compensation for my stay, dinner was credited to my account.

Best meal was beach bar with fish tacos and tuna salads niçoise..I went to the beach bar at 3:50 pm and said kitchen is closed. Was told by staff that The bar closes at 4/4:30. They did take the order. Only other place to dine was the restaurant dining room, which offers the same meal daily except for a special. This is a 4-5 star hotel at 2000k per night in Season???!!!

When asked for a later check out, no one called back.

After some friendly correspondence with the concierge we made a reservation to have lunch and spend the day on the beach.

We found the lounge chair, service, quality of dining and overall atmosphere exceeded the fee-for what we had for the day it was well worth the price.

We arrived around 10:00 and left at 3.

At one point we were the only two people on the beach for hours

This is a very private enclave with tight security, as it should. It looks like it would be an amazing place to spend a few nights. All the service providers were very nice and serviceable.

This was our 3rd stay at La Samanna St. Martin...and won't be the last! The property is beautifully maintained and the staff is so very personable and accommodating! Richard, Claire & Nicolas at the beach were always so great, happy and attentive! Madeleine at The Corail was our daily smile (even through the mask!)! She always made our daily morning breakfast an amazing ritual and great start each day in paradise! With a sense of pride, Thiery would present us with a "custom" dish of our favorite fruits every morning! Eléonore Astier-Petin, the resort's GM, would greet us many mornings asking of our stay! The rooms were always fresh & clean and we would come "home" to daily postcards, chocolates and replenished bottled water! The resort also has one of the nicest fitness centers I've experienced. Throughout the entire resort, there is not a bad view to be had! We enjoyed amazing sunsets at the Baie Longue bar. The food was all so very fresh, the views stunning and I truly can't say enough about the hospitality of the staff. Thank you for a great 9 days!

My husband and I stayed a full week in room 102. It was a delightful room in the main building with a great view of the beach and the sea. Hearing the comforting sound of the waves in the room was very nice. The room had all the amenities one might need, including a good AC. We wanted to discover the island but ended up staying at the property because it had everything we needed. We had booked a package including daily breakfast, a couples massage, transfer from and to the airport and the abdolute hightlight of our stay was the dinner for two on the beach. With all those things included, the great room and the lovely beach nearby there was no need to look anywhere else, because i doubt one could find things that are nicer than this. But the outstanding and friendly service could not be unmentioned. All the staff we met were excellent, with Candice, Amy and Madeleine at breakfast making every morning a great start of the day., making us feel right at home. They are so incredibly sweet and welcoming. We were really sad to leave them! Andrea the bartender made some delicious cocktails with the vanilla rum that we got offered as a present from the hotel in our room and was also superfriendly, Anais at the bar and Nico from the restaurant who took care of us at the private dinner were also so very kind and deserve to be mentioned. We could not thank you and all the other stafffmembers enough! Housekeeping twice a day was very good and every night there was a present and fresh waterbottles. The people at the frontdesk were also very kind. Small flaws were taken care of professionally and kind. Overall a holiday to remember. Thanks once again!

La Samanna has recovered very well from Hurricane Irma. It was exquisitely appointed and the staff takes excellent care of the guests. When you first walk into the lobby the view is breathtaking!

It is not an adults-only resort so kids (and the noise that comes along with them) are obvious. If you are looking for a kids-free vacation go somewhere else. Some of the rooms in the main hotel are very small with New York City sized (very, very small) bathrooms. Chose to stay in a villa where the bathrooms are huge! The villas have more than enough closet space, a sitting area, lanai and separate toilet area.

Enjoy cocktails at sunset in the bar.

Note: you can rent a car at the hotel (Hertz). If you are not planning on driving every day, don't pay to have a car every day by renting at the airport. We used a car twice to go to dinner in Grande Case but paid to have a car for the entire week. Probably a big waste of money.

From the minute you step onto the grounds you can feel the relaxation set in. Outside of the beautiful beach the grounds sit on, the amenities are just as amazing. For lunch you have to eat outside on the teak deck and take in all the views. This place lives up to all expectations, the staff is top notch.

My only hesitation to writing this review is that I don't want the world to find out about this stunning, wonderful gem of a place.

We just got back from 6 heavenly days at La Sammana. I have to say that this is really the best overall hotel we have ever stayed at in the Caribbean. Between the laid-back, quiet, gorgeous and extremely friendly atmosphere, to the serene beauty of the grounds and buildings, the amazing food and service, it was just spectacular. We were only coming for 5 nights so we did not splurge on our room, but nonetheless it was lovely and the maid service was extremely attentive. If (when!) we come back for longer we would go ahead and get a suite, but our room in the main building directly overlooked the beach and highlighted an amazing sunset each evening.

Breakfasts at Corail were just fabulous with their fully included expansive buffet with amazing pastries and also made to order offerings. The staff in the mornings was so incredibly warm and welcoming. Candice is an absolute gem and we looked forward to her warm greetings each day. All of the other servers were so kind and lovely as well, and they were always attentive to us. My scrambled eggs were cooked exactly to my liking and their avocado toast was sensational.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Sunday night BBQ and a truly wonderful dinner at their restaurant L'Oursin with their new 2-star Michelin chef Marcel Ravin. The bar area "Baie Longue" was managed by wonderful bartenders, Marco and another lovely lady who's name I missed. Their lunch menu was great - I really enjoyed the Tuna Poke Bowl and the Fish "Burger." Just delicious.

The concierge, Diana, made multiple arrangements for us and had great restaurant recommendations.

Finally, a shoutout to the valet and front desk staff who welcomed us so warmly after a long day of travels, quickly got us a welcome drink and our room quite a bit before normal check in time.

Really, our whole experience at La Sammana felt so warm and personal that we felt completely at home there. I can't wait to go back.

Dear Gretchen D, Many thanks for your question. I would recommend renting a car for perhaps part of your stay. We have an onsite Hertz agency to assist with this and we do have complimentary onsite parking and complimentary valet service. As for taxis, I suggest always trying to book them in advance (at least 2 hours) with our Concierge team. Of course, we would be happy to provide further guidance on this and any other questions. We look forward to welcoming you to La Samanna! Warm regards, Eleonore Eleonore Astier-Petin General Manager La Samanna, A Belmond Hotel, St. Martin
