On arrival at the hotel, there were no employees at the reception and we were left waiting for approx. five minutes before a cheerful and bubbly female employee arrived and welcomed us with a smile. She quickly found the reservation, asked about Thon+ membership, and quickly informed us about the hotel's facilities, as well as giving us a brief description of the way to the room.
The guest room had a harmonious and inviting style with soft color combinations. The furnishings were modern and consisted of a desk with work chair, an armchair, minibar, flat screen TV, Bluetooth Bose speaker and kettle with accompanying coffee and tea bags. The bed was nicely made with freshly ironed, clean bed linen and pillows in two different sizes. The mattress had the right hardness, which gave good sleep quality. The air quality in the guest room was good and the temperature from the ventilation system could be adjusted individually. Both the cleaning and the maintenance were very good.
The bathroom was small, but had an inviting style and good lighting. Of the equipment, there was soap from a dispenser by the sink and in the shower, as well as clean towels, a hairdryer and Kleenex. The bathroom was also very clean and appeared to be well maintained.
The hotel's common area had a modern and inviting feel. The different parts of the hotel were clearly signposted and easy to find. The hotel had its own lounge with pleasant seating areas and the option of free coffee, tea, water and fruit, which helped to enhance the overall experience. The hotel also had a well-equipped gym. Both the cleanliness and maintenance in the common areas were good.
The hotel's breakfast was served as a buffet and had a rich selection of both hot and cold dishes that were nicely presented and clearly labelled. The products appeared to be fresh and of good quality. A selection of local and home-made products, as well as the option of freshly squeezed juice helped top off the experience. However, the staff in the breakfast room could have shown a bit more interest and commitment to the guests and we missed a nice comment both on arrival and when we left the breakfast room.
Thon Hotel Stavanger consistently delivered very well in all areas. The breakfast, which is better than most hotel breakfasts, is in itself a good reason to visit the hotel and means that I can safely recommend a stay at the hotel to others.

The standard of furnishings, staff and food are wonderful. Comfortable beds, quality linen and this particular hotel had air conditioning (not standard in Norwegian hotels). We saved a small fortune in coffee because the Thon Hotel Stavanger has two lounge areas where you can help yourself to a pod espresso machine / tea / chilled & sparkling water on tap. They even provide takeaway cups if you'd like a drink to go, and there's a bowl of fruit.
The breakfasts at Thon Hotels are always superb - such a wide variety of traditional Scandinavian breakfast items as well as British/American dishes. The freshly made smoothies and freshly squeezed orange juice were delicious.
Plus, on arrival we discovered we were being given a voucher for a light supper - a scaled-down version of breakfast (bread / cheese / cold meats & smoked salmon etc / salad / fruit), plus a hot soup. What a bonus! I believe they only offer this a few nights each week so we timed our stay perfectly. Again, eating out in Norway is very expensive so this complimentary light supper was very much appreciated.
And the staff... I have never been in a hotel where every single employee appears to love their job so much. Without exception, every staff member we encountered was friendly, helpful and seemed happy to be there. All perfectly groomed and able to answer questions and resolve issues.
Honestly, even if you can find a cheaper hotel rate, it is worth spending the extra to stay at Thon. Join the loyalty programme and you will be given discounted rates and small perks like bottled water when you arrive.

I told the front desk, and they assured me it would be vacuumed and offered a single drink token for a sparkling water or wine. I really do not think that covered the severity of literally stepping on glass in my hotel room.
Great location though
The room was clean but tiny with next to no storage. For one person it's was barely manageable, for two people with suitcases.... No chance.
I wrongly assumed that leaving my laundry bag with the ticket filled out in the middle of the floor by the door would be enough of a hint for it to be collected, but no. Fair enough, my mistake for not following the non existent instructions to take it to reception. But don't do that on a Friday afternoon as they don't do laundry over the weekends, so if you're checking out on Monday morning you're screwed....
Weekends, the time the hotel restaurant only does breakfast, so if you're wanting to eat in or get room service then you'll need an app and call in some takeaways.
Disappointing stay. Needs to be dragged in the current century.
Majority of them are kind in their interactions, with their prospective guests and current guests, that without doubt distinguish them!
Mr. Sander’s responses are prompt and comprehensive in that he sends URL links to buses and boats. He also advised that we can hike to the Preikestolen on our own by taking the bus. It saved us funds for a tour!
When he saw that we booked Thon for our stay in Stavanger, he assigned a room in the top floor as I requested.
Ms. Elina sent me the Fjord Rodsen link in English and was apologetic about Nor-way bus’ lack of a ticket office and blockage of North American credit cards when booking online for Bergen to Stavanger bus tickets. She checked us in and handed us a complimentary buffet dinner card for two evenings.
Ms. Klara exerted efforts to advise where the better rates are when exchanging $US to NOK and ensured us that we could use our Flybussen tickets at any time within the day.
Mr. Alex who we encountered in the complimentary dinner asked what we wanted for drinks. When he served it he placed an hourglass on the table with the teapot and cup then said, “When it’s empty, your tea is ready”. On our 2nd dinner, he also placed two peppermint tea bags in a small oval china wrapped in plastic and said as we were leaving, “I know there is no peppermint tea in your room” and handed it for us to bring up😊. So kind!
Their complimentary dinner offers delicious veggies cream soup, hummus, herring, apple chutney, salad, artichoke, white beans, cucumber, tomatoes, zucchini, strawberry smoothie, mango with herbs smoothie, cheese, bread, cold cuts, assortment of decadent mini pastries, oranges amongst many other choices!
Their lounge’s glass wall that looks out at tree leaves swaying in the breeze is relaxing.
Their complimentary breakfast spread has an incredible variety and of excellent quality!
To mention my favorites are the honey slab from a bee hive, caviar, fresh smoothies, tiny sweet shrimps, smoked salmon, several egg preparations, bacon, sausage, meatballs, beans, pancake, vegetables, fresh OJ, cookies, pastries, bread . . .
The lobby has coffee, tea, China cups, silver cutlery, and comfy wing chairs where you can enjoy your drink. Nothing is disposable.
Their rooms are small but are clean, have bose sound, LG big screen, comfy bed, pillows and comforters. All the above eclipses no conditioner, no lotion and no shower cap.
I come more regularly and I still like it.
Friendly staff. The rooms look neat and there is a gym where you can do your daily workout.
Breakfast is extensive, dinner is limited to soup and salads. You have to love this, but it is otherwise well cared for.

This hotel is smack in the middle of everything in Stavanger. There is no restaurant, but wine and beer can be bought in the reception, and there are A LOT of restaurants nearby.
Staff is very kind and friendly.
Out room was clean and nice. You can regulate temperature to your own comfort and windows can be opened. We had a "view" straight into a concrete wall, but honestly didn't mind, because the room was in a street with little traffic and noise.
Kettle and coffeemaker in the room.
And did I mention the great breakfast?
There are two things we missed: Another armchair. This was a superior room and it might have gotten a bit crowded, but the office chair was so uncomfortable. And why on earth weren't there a nightstand to each side of the bed? Truth said, nightstand no. 2 miraculously appeared on day 3 of our stay.
Anyway, if we come back to Stavanger, we'll surely stay here again.
