A stay at the Hanseatic Hotel is a very special experience. We have invested all our expertise and passion into creating this high quality hotel, situated at Bryggen in Bergen. With its location at the very heart of historic Bergen, the hotel is ideally placed, whether you are travelling on business or pleasure. The Hanseatic Hotel is not your 'standard' hotel. The hotel has been built on historic ground within the Finnegaarden Trading House at Bryggen, which is inscribed on Unesco's list of World Heritage Sites. We have retained the wharf style and architecture, and the old timber walls have been preserved in several places.Every room is uniqe! We can offer 37 characterful double rooms featuring exclusive furniture and unique bathrooms, creating an interior that is redolent of the time when Bryggen was a Hanseatic port. The Hanseatic Hotel will appeal to those looking for more than a standard A4 hotel, and who wish to spoil themselves in attractive and charming surroundings. As the city's most outstanding hotel and restaurant complex, we want our guests' stay to be memorable and can offer delicious culinary treats that will appeal to every taste. We have several restaurants serving exquisite traditional and international cuisine, a cosy lobby bar, in addition to excellent conference facilities and free WiFi.Our hotel and restaurants, as well as our conference facilities, with their unique character and central location, make for an out-of-the-ordinary experience. We can organise every type of privatefunction, from weddings to confirmations and Christmas buffets. A short distance from the hotel is the famous Fish Market (Fisketorget), where seafood connoisseurs mingle. Another popular tourist attraction is the Fløibanen Funicular. The airport bus and the railway station are just a short distance away.Welcome to a memorable hotel and culinary experience!

We booked this hotel because we sow nice room in the pictures, by arrival they gave us a room which was the size of the closet, which had no window or yes it had something reminding the window but I can’t call it like that. Because it was a small hole in the roof the size of 30*40cm. We asked to change the room, and got a slightly bigger one again with window in the room size of 30*40cm. I went down to ask if they have a room with window because we don’t want to stay in room without it, on what I got very rude and impolite reply from a man on reception, he said “- I have discussed this with many clients, so I’m not going to comment on that anymore. All the rooms are different in the hotel and the one on the pictures is not available. If you don’t like it you can leave I will sell this room tonight, but you won’t get your money back”. Beside that he also made the most stupid jock you can make about us camping the night before “- this room must be a palace for you after camping”! We have traveled a lot, but I never sow so low-educated people working with guests and speaking so vulgar. Especially when they know they do wrong things by selling the rooms which is not available. If you looking for a welcoming hotel during your vacation and don’t want to end up with a room without proper window, stay away from this place!

First what was right - the desk staff was incredibly helpful even when we requested a room change because of a plumbing issue. The location is right on the harbor, and the breakfast was good (not as great as some of the other hotels we stayed at). The problem I guess is the hotel's strength which is that the building is 300 years old. while the room was a nice size it was just so musty and we couldn't get enough light no matter how hard we tried. There was an odor that could have been sewer gas from old pipes, or just the air of the harbor, and with no air conditioning or fan, I would not want to be there if it was hot. - so some good - some not so good

The location could hardly be better in Bergen. This 16th century hotel consists of two buildings cleverly joined by glass walkways with much of the decor consisting of old wooden planking. The facility was impeccably clean with our double room quite spacious leaving no sense of cramping or smallness. All room amenities functioned well with the internet being lightning fast. The breakfast buffet was absolutely ample with a large variety of food on offer. The staff were so so friendly and helpful in all aspects. I mentioned that on the fourth day of our stay we would have to miss breakfast because of our early flight and they offered and made us a box breakfast to take with on our departure date. Highly recommend .

The location of the hotel is in the middle of the old city center, next to the fish market/ harbor and the train to the top of mount Floyen. It is also next to a road that turned out to be busy, so we asked to move to a different room, which was no problem at all. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The reception area of the hotel and the old hallways are very charming. The hotel has been renovated, which makes it comfortable, but less authentic. The rooms are big and have a nice bathroom. The breakfast is okay and has some very good coffee (also to go). For a stay in Bergen to visit the sites, I would recommend this hotel.

For our precruise Hotel, we chose the Hanseatic based on reviews, and we were not disappointed. We loved the open fire in the lounge/ reception area, where coffee was readily available, the friendly welcome from the manager (who proved to be a great source on what we should see and good advice, generally), the quirkiness of the rooms - our daughter’s was quite different from ours - and the excellent breakfast, again in a charming olde worlde room. Very close to the funicular and good restaurants. Highly recommended.
