Detailed Reviews
Situated in a beautifully maintained historic environment at Nordnes, just a ten minutes walk from the city center, it is an ideal place to stay. No traffic and night life noise, you get a nice room for decent price, very good home made food for breakfast, and we experienced a very service minded and caring staff. As the finishing touch we were also every day treated with free afternoon coffee with several flavors of home made jam and waffels.

We stayed three nights at this hotel in July 2020 and were very well pleased. An old house with three floors, we had a room on the 3rd floor, creaking old stairs leading up to the room, no elevator, but the staff is happy to help with luggage. Our room, No. 304, had some extra space, a large bathroom, and nice skylights with a view of the city. Comfy beds.
The staff do everything they can to make you feel comfortable, and the breakfast is unforgettable! Due to Covid 19 we were served at the table, after ticking off a list the day before for what we wanted. A lot is homemade: the orange juice, the bread, three kinds of jam, the scrambled eggs, the yoghurt. At our request, they also served tea in bulk from the second morning!
The staff deserves a flower! It was extra nice to talk to Celine at the reception, she is perfect for such a job.
This is the hotel for you who appreciate the real and pleasant!

Dear guest, Thank you so much for your beautiful review! This really lightened up our day! :) I am so glad to read in between the lines that you were comfortable during your stay and that we might have exceeded your expectations. We have tried to find the best solution for breakfast during these COVID-19 times, and I am pleased to hear that we succeded. It is our goal to meet all our guests wishes and demands, even if it is as simple as tea from bulk. I have passed on your specific compliments to Celine - she was very happy to receive it! We are looking forward to see you again someday!

Reception staff were just so friendly. Lots of information. Room was small, but fine - it is an historic building and just beautiful. Area around hotel is quiet, with stunning views of old buildings, and a great walk to the immediate headland including a fort. Only 7 mins walk to the coastal ferry terminal (Hurtigruten/Havila), and about 12 mins walk from the station. Easy walk to Bryggen and also the funicular. Great breakfast - much home made. Luggage could be left in a locked area after we checked out, and we were invited to enjoy tea before leaving for the coastal ferry. On arrival, we were invited to enjoy home made waffles and tea and coffee. Teas included home collected elderflower. Just a lovely experience. Highly recommended.

Before getting in to the bad, the staff were all really nice. I think it's got a good purpose of getting people back in to work and trained up, and in that regard I can't fault them as everyone we interacted with was great. However, I doubt we'd choose to stay here again without some improvements. The room was quite hot and uncomfortable in August, and there was no fan in the room. We opened the windows a bit, but it was pretty noisy at night on the adjacent street, and people also decided to smoke outside the hotel and it filtered its way up to our window really easily which was pretty unpleasant. The room itself is probably the smallest we stayed in throughout 11 days in Norway, constantly having to step over our bags, and the bed was a really thin mattress which wasn't the most comfortable. The breakfast was pretty poor, heavily indexing on cured meats and fish (which were always leftover), with not much fruit, hot food, or pastries, but it was included in the rate so shouldn't complain too much. The location was pretty good though, in a nice part of Bergen. Basically there are things here they can improve on easily which would have made for a much better stay - put fans in rooms, invest in better mattresses and offer some better breakfast selection.

The hotel was chosen by our tour operator and was a little out of town & uphill. We very much enjoyed the traditional Nordic breakfast, the rooms downstairs were stylish and modern. Our room on 3rd floor (no lift) was not so stylish, the wood furnishings were tired, it had sloping ceilings and the bed was very snug in the slope. The bathroom was also cosy with a wet room approach. There are a few dining options available in the area but most of the attractions are in the town. Our review would have been graded higher with a different room I suspect.

Dear guest, Thank you for leaving a review after your stay. We appreciate the feedback regarding the rooms - we are aware of the fact that some of the furniture has outlived themselves and we hope to refurnish and modernize once the high season is over. If you decide to return to us and Bergen, we are more than happy to assign you to a room in the second floor without sloping ceiling. Some of our guests prefer the full-size ceilings, while other find the sloping ceilings charming. We do our best to please them all! :) Despite the fact that the room did not live up to your expectations, we hope that you still enjoyed your stay with us and your time in Bergen.

I stayed here for a night this week. The hotel is in a quiet area of Bergen near the Hurtigruten terminal and around a 10 minutes walk from the city centre and Bryggen.
The staff were all very friendly and the public areas are pleasant and well-decorated.
My room was modern and clean with a comfortable bed, decent storage space and tea/coffee provided which is always a bonus. The ensuite was spotless but a little small and more a wet room than a bathroom.
Breakfast was very good with a wide selection.
For the price I paid (around £60/ 750NOK) I was very satisfied.

Perfect location: The city center, major attractions and shopping streets are all within walking distance but at the same time the hotel is located in a nice and quiet part of the city. Everything is clean. I stayed in a single room, small but cozy and functional. They offer a very good breakfast with a wide choice of different foods. The staff is very nice. Definitely I recommend it .

Quiet, but central hotell just outside the most busy centre of the city. Very nice surroundings, available workers, rich breakfast and newly decorated rooms! This location is in walking distance from the quay, shops and centre on one side and the park and aquarium on the other. Very happy with my stay and will continue choosing this accomodation!

Highly recommend Klosterhagen hotel! From the moment we walked in, Anne greeted us with a warm friendly smile and the utmost courtesy. The hotel is beautiful, quiet, clean. Perfect for couples! It felt almost like staying at an inn; we never felt overwhelmed by other guests running around.
Breakfast was lovely, but best of all were the afternoon vafler, which my husband maintains were the best he had in Norway! Anne kept everything well-stocked and chit chatted with us about things to do in Bergen, the latest news, and even a little Norwegian language lesson!
Our room (third floor; not sure if there was an elevator, fyi) was clean and simple, with friendly notes encouraging us to enjoy Norway's clean tap water... a really great introduction to staying in this incredible country! The TV is casting only, which took a little getting used to, but Anne personally came upstairs to reset the internet when it was acting up.
Location is excellent; good bars and food right on the block (PLEASE check out the dirty vegan for a quick bite!) but not a loud/crazy part of town by any means. When you're ready for site-seeing, it's an easy stroll to the pier and historic sites.
Overall, we feel really lucky this was our first stop in Norway. The Klosterhagen should be very proud of their customer service; the hotel does the city proud!

Hi!
The airport shuttle leaves in time for people to be able to catch the first flight, so approximately at 03:25; 04:00 and 04:25. It takes about 30minutes to reach the airport. However, if you have large suitcases, I recommend to take a taxi and prebook in the reception the day before. The price for a taxi is approx. 500NOK, while the airport bus costs 105NOK pr person if you buy the tickets in advance online (flybussen.no).
I hope this helped!
We are looking forward to see you in September!
Hi Bill,
How nice that you will be visiting us in July. We'll make sure to book some nice weather for you!
All rooms have either blinds or curtains, so you will get a good night's sleep while staying with us. However, with the sunset around 11pm and sunrise around 5am in July, which is a little unusual for our international guests, you might experience a some light shining through the curtains in the morning.
Hi! Yes, we have rooms suitable for three adults, with one queen bed and one single bed.
The train station in Bergen is located a 15minutes walk from the hotel. Please see our webpage for road descriptions from and to the train station. There is only one train station in Bergen, so this is the only place you can catch the train towards Voss, which is approximately 1,5hrs ride away.
Kind regards,
Annette

Hi Paul,
Yes, there are public parking areas in the streets as the others have already stated. The fee is 100NOK for 24hrs, and a parking permit can be bought in the reception upon arrival.
Are you travelling with the Fjordline ferry? In that case, the ferry arrives just a 10minutes walk from the hotel. You could either walk or take a taxi. Walk towards Nordnes (I recommend finding a map or using GPS on your phone), and you will easily find the hotel. Our address is Strangehagen 2. Please give us a call if you have trouble finding your way, on phone number +47 53 00 22 00. Looking forward to seeing you!
