Detailed Reviews
My partner and I stayed here for 4 days and it was absolutely amazing. The attention to detail is second to none. The rooms are big, beds soft, pillows are massive, bathroom was very big and was almost like a wet room with a walk-in shower. The TV was located in the very large mirror in the room which I thought was good as it didn't take up any space on the wall or on a desk/table. The food was very nice, if you enjoy fine dining then this is the place you want to be. The staff are quiet possibly the best staff at a hotel I have experienced. They make sure you have everything you need at all times and you can tell they genuinely want you to have a great experience, at some hotels you get the sense the staff are just there to do a job but the staff here will go above and beyond to ensure your experience there is one you shall not forget. The gym and spa facilities are again amazing, I had a massage from a gentleman named Joseph and he did something to my back that no one else could and it felt amazing. Breakfast is out of this world, the selection of food, fruit, meats etc is exceptional. The hotel has recently been refurbished at a cost of over a billion pounds and when you get there you can see where the money has been spent. If you can afford to stay here you should. Trondheim is a wonderful city and there is so much to do. But this hotel is by far one of the best in the world and I have stayed in some excellent 5* hotels in my time but this was by far the best one, I thought the luxor in Vegas was good but this makes that look like a baby.

We spent five days in Trondheim at Britannia for holidays and were welcomed by friendly staff at arrival. The whole stay was very pleasant and Speilsalen is worth a trip to Britannia in itself, however the lasting impression is a bit overshadowed by the fact that we were put in a room 5 m2 smaller than what we paid for. Deluxe Rooms are advertised as from 26 to 30 m2 and our booking confirmation said the room was «from 28 m2». The escape plan of the room showed however that our room was 23 m2 including the ensuite - which is a 25% discrepancy in size.
At arrival we immediately felt the room was small, there wasn’t any proper space for two people to sit and work and relax at the same time. After a couple of days we came across the escape plan drawings and told the staff about the misrepresentation, which they immediately did nothing about. The day after we repeated a request for a room in line with the order confirmation and were at last moved to a larger room, however not without an argument.
On departure we were as customary asked about our stay and the receptionist underlined how lucky we were with our «upgrade» to a larger room within the same category, oblivient of the fact that we spent half our time in a room significantly misrepresented by Britannia. We replied that the initial room was 25% smaller than advertised, upon which the receptionist sarcasticly retorted that I obviously had measured the room.
People less shy of conflict than us would probably quarrel some more but we felt that we were talking to deaf ears.
On a positive note, the breakfast is superb and the wine bar is just excellent. The wine list is extraordinary and so is the helpful and competent staff.
Long story short: Britannia is worth a visit but do check out whether your room actually meets the promised specifications. Several of the Deluxe Rooms are obviously misrepresented in terms of size.
Also, if Britannia wishes to be the pristine and iconic 5-star hotel it aims to be - the staff should routinely clean the remote controls in the rooms. Particularly in these times. Ours had dandruff and obvious stains on it at our arrival.

Stayed here for a weekend trip with my girlfriend. It was hands on the best hotel experience in my life. It was simply excellence in every way possible.
The pros:
+The room itself; highly modern, quiet, luxury materials
+The breakfast must be the best in Norway, possibly in Scandinavia. Personal service, local ingredients and possibilty to order a wide variety lavish dishes included. They even had a pianist and fountain.
+The spa experience was A+, very modern facilities with timeless classical architectural design. It can compete with Farris Bad (Larvik, although this one is a dedicated spa hotel) and Radisson Scandinavia (Gothenburg).
+The special feeling from the service they provided.
Cons:
÷In itself the price might scare you of, but if considered the quality and value, the experience, it felt very reasonable.

We wanted to have a special and memorable day for my husbands birthday and we definitely were not disappointed with our 3 day stay at the The Britannia in Trondheim. We loved having a Jr. Suite, Room 513 which the King of Thailand had stayed in in 1907. What luxury it was for us
The Staff was amazing with helping us use the modern updates in our room. Such as how to use the fancy coffee maker, the TV at the end of the bed with a remote and learning how to use the lighting system.
When we arrived after 7 hours by train we were told about a special dinner in the Speilsalen which had 10-16 courses. We immediately knew we were not interested in so many courses.
If it had not been for meeting another guest in the breakfast line we never would have enjoyed this meal. He had eaten in the Speilsalen the night before and could highly recommended a dinner there. He explained that they were not large courses, but small portions, we would not leave feeling hungry and well worth the price.
Having the Birthday Dinner in the Speilsalen was the meal of a lifetime. The taste samples were well presented by chefs wearing tall white hats describing their dish which showed creativity with fantastic flavors. Every dish was unique and exciting and the lamb was awesome. The wines and drinks could not have been matched better.
Our stay at the Britannia Hotel with a fantastic staff made us feel so welcome and sad when we had to leave.
We look forward to when we can come and visit HOTEL BRITANNIA in the near future.

Just arrived back from a 4 days stay in Brittannia hotel. We have traveled a lot, and were dissapointed. The employees are not educated hotel people it seems, mostly foreigners taken in from the street in seems in many ways. Restaurant Palmen is beutiful, but food and service a total let down. For breakfast wait min half an hour for egg and bacon, 10 min min for a slice of cheese. Waiters dont know what they are doing in many ways. For dinner in the evening people wearing t shirts without collar! and no style. Food was Max average as athmosphere.
We had the only twin room they could offer. Beds was 70 cm wide!! TV in the mirror was no success, and the screen in the window went up and down by itself all the time.
So called hi-tec. Elevator system worked fine though.
Maybe a 5 star building, but 3 star hotel. Would not go back.

Dear Randi and Egil, Thank you so much for getting back to us. I am sad to hear that you were dissapointed with your stay. We take all reviews seriously, and we of course evaluate our performance there after. Britannia has not set an formal dress code for evening attire, and the overall feedback is positive with the high level of standard and service, but also with an unformal approach wich many do appreciate. We apologize if this had a negative influence on your dining experience. Our outdoor blinds is a part of the Passive House Standard - which makes sure that the temperature in your room is comfortable at all times, Unfortunately with changeing weather as it has been over the last few days, they will adjust frequently based on sun and wind conditions. We hope that you will re-consider Britannia for another visit, we are quite sure that we will be able to impress you next time. Best regards, Ida E. Dønheim Assisting General Manager

I am super impressed with this hotel on many levels.
We stayed 3 nights and never waited more than 30 seconds for an elevator.
There is plenty of staff, always ready to help.
A key is required in the slot by the door for electric to work. However, the foyer lights up when you enter the room even when power is off. You can touch an icon on the wall panel to night time settings. The lights go off, but you can still turn on your bedside reading light, and get this: When you enter the bathroom the dim lighting comes on.
You don’t see the tv. When you turn on the remote, the screen appears on the mirror on the wall.
Plenty of outlets.
This one might be my favorite: what I call the goody basket. In addition to personally sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, bars of soap and shower gel, there are also the following, each individually wrapped: comb, shaving kit, dental kit, feminine hygiene kit, sewing kit, vanity pack, and shoe sponge.
The rooms and common areas are all gorgeous with lots of marble.
This is truly a magnificent hotel

Was staying one night at hotel Britannia. Service was perfect. I had booked a suite and got 1004. The thing I was missing was maybe some fruit in the room when we arrived. We paid aorund 600€ for one night, and for beeing a 5-star hotel they should give all suite guests a basket of fruit and a personal welcome letter. - just my opinion.
Due to late check in, I was also missing the bed pre made for a good night sleep. (Turn over).
Breakfast was great. We had breakfast included, and we also got the opportunity to order from the a la carte menu as well.
Lunch in the bistro was also perfect, but was missing regular check in at the table to refill wine in the glas. Especially since we ordered a 200€ bottle wine. There was some times we was out of wine in the glas.
SPA was perfect! We went for the relaxing massage as well! And took a bath in the swimming pool and some sauna.
After checking out we went to the wine bar. Good service, nice snacks and perfect wine as well!
All in all, very satisfied with the stay and will come back.

Recently renovated and did a wonderful job. The location is outstanding for exploring the old downtown section of the city. Easy walk to the Cathedral, shopping and very good restaurants. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. The one drawback is the electronics gone wild system they have to control the lighting in the room. If this is an improvement over just having switches I fail to see it. What really makes it hard to deal with is that there are no written instructions to refer to. There also is the annoying euro system of having to have a card in the slot for the electricity to be on when you're leaving the room. Just makes it impossible to recharge electronic instruments except when you were in the room.

Dear E6492Zbobh, Thank you for staying at Britannia Hotel in Trondheim. We are very pleased to read that you had a great stay and appreciated the renovated property, the location and the service from our team members. I will make sure to forward your praise to them We are in the process of adding a printed Room Directory in all rooms, with a more extensive explanation of the lightning system in the room. As you mention, most hotels operate here with a card needed to be in the card slot for full electricity, but we do recommend having a second key card if you prefer to have it on at all time for your next stay with us. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your stay with us. All the best, Andrès Reyes Gjerme Hotel Manager Britannia Hotel

My wife had bought a stay at the Britannia for my 50th birthday. The stay included accommodation, collection of the Britannia car at the Hurtigbåtkaia in Trondheim, dinner (Chefs Table) in the Speilsalen. My rating goes here to the hotel, not the Hall of Mirrors (it's absolutely fantastic and deserves a top score - recommend the restaurant, but wouldn't spend money on accommodation in this mediocre hotel).
The Britannia car that was supposed to pick us up did not arrive at the agreed time at 1800. My wife called the hotel after 12 minutes, and about 25 minutes late it turned up. It seemed as if someone had just thrown themselves into the car to drive. The level of service was miserable, and far below a normal city taxi. We opened doors ourselves and handled luggage ourselves. On arrival the hotel was exactly the same; no service - we opened the door ourselves and handled the luggage ourselves...all the way from the car, via reception and into the room. Here there is little evidence of a 5-star hotel and experience.
My wife had ordered champagne and chocolates/cakes to be ready in the room on arrival. They had not been able to achieve this either, even though there had been a lot of dialogue about details in advance during 6 months of planning. When it was finally delivered to the room, it was 45 minutes until we were supposed to be in the Hall of Mirrors for dinner...what were we going to do with this then?
The quality of the rooms in the hotel is mostly a fancy facade. Beyond that, it's impractical. I'm glad I was only going to stay one night:
- Fancy with a TV behind the mirror - but if it's bright in the room you can't see anything...
- In any case, the room is furnished in such a way that it is hopeless to watch TV. You may have to move the seating group or watch TV from the bed. If you want to see from the bed, you must first clear away lamps etc. which is on the desk. It's really quite incredible that you can decorate a hotel room so badly.
- Since it was difficult to watch TV, I tried to turn on online radio via TV. I have at home
- At the end of the bed is a desk. Just forget about using more pillows in bed, because then you won't have room for your feet. Both my wife at 172 cm and me at 182 cm found it uncomfortable to constantly kick the wall to the desk.
- The room is fantastically well insulated, which I really appreciate when it is in the middle of the city. But then the fresh air system must be sized accordingly. It was completely hopeless for me to sleep in the poor air quality in the room, so I finally had to open the window. On the night of Saturday there is of course a LOT of noise from the city streets outside...it was a night with very little sleep.
The two stars I have given the hotel have been given for an ok spa department and a very good breakfast. Beyond this, the Britannia is a mediocre hotel.
I cannot in any way recommend Britannia for accommodation, but I can certainly recommend the restaurants in the hotel. They deliver real quality.

Traveling with a friend we stayed at Britannia for 4 nights with high expectaions. They where met on every level and for this review I will go for a thorough walkthrough.
Room:
We had booked a superiour room, the lowest rate. The room was not huge, but had a good sized bathroom given us a sink each and overall we had plenty of room for storage. The beds, sheets and linens where amazing. Lights could be dimmed and controlled to ones preference. There where a minibar, a tv in the mirror, bathrobes and slippers. Good products in the bathroom.
Wining and dining:
The hotel it self has four (?) restaurants. We had dinner one night at the Brasserie, but that is a different review (it was good!). The breakfast! So good! You had the choice between a la carte, buffet or a combination of both. The surroundings (Palmehaven) is something else and the food and drinks are so good. Take some time to enjoy this, it is well worth it! We had drinks in the bar a couple of nights, they have a lot of signature drinks, the bartenders and waiters really know what they are doing.
Spa and fitness:
I did not book any treatments, but I used the facilities. There is a swimmingpool, a heatpool, a cold tub and various saunas. The area is clean and up to date, towels, water, tea and coffee available, free of charge. The last day we where there some people decided to do serious laps of swimming exercise in the pool (wich there really is not room for), but you can't blame that on the hotel. There is a fitnessroom containg all you need for a workout. It is not huge, but there where not many people there when we entered, so it worked out well.
Service and staff:
The staff at Britannia is really something. They are friendly and helpful in a way that does not feel forced. Everyone greets you in the nicest way, that be the reception, waiters or housekeepers. I will give an extra shoutout to the housekeepers! There is regular cleaning during the day and turndown service at night. They do an amazing job, they are friendly and our room was kept perfectly!
Location:
Trondheim is not a big city. Britannia is well situated in the centre of town, only short walks from Nidarosdomen, Solsiden, Bakkelandet, the city bridge, shops and dining.
To conclude:
This is a place to stay! It is pricey, but we got a deal of 4 nights paying for 3. My feeling is that we all get treated the same way, no matter if you stay at a superiour room or a suite. Staff is friendly and they know what they are doing. For a regular girl this was a long-weekend of luxury.
