Stepping into THE THIEF is sure to rob you of something. Something familiar and shall we say, enslaving at times. And the thing is that the hotel is so good at it… that you might not notice until the end. You suddenly find yourself engaged in a world of new impressions: cutting-edge art, architecture and world-class gastronomy. And then it hits you, what’s been stolen from you…you haven’t had a single thought about your very long to-do list, the responsibilities at home, the everyday worries.

    Perfect Aker Brygge Location. Sparkling!
The foyer reception is dark but clean, sleek, and contemporary. A cozy lobby bar with overstuffed furniture lends warmth and ambiance. The room was larger than we expected, with a snug area rug, lovely linens and robes, contemporary bath, and nice view from the small balcony. Right below, within steps are the Fearnley Museum, new National Gallery (a must see), all the restaurants of Aker Brygge, trikk station, and ship landing. Many cruise ships come in and out of here. The breakfast buffet is fabulous. Take advantage of the lovely cheeses, meats, fruits, and baked goods. Fresh juices and sparkling wines for mimosas on weekends. The decaffeinated capuccino was made in a separate machine and delicious. Drinks and lunch on the roof were very nice. Book your private even here.
Dear MsCanuck24, thank you so much for the lovely and detailed review of your stay with us. We are so glad you enjoyed your experience at THE THIEF and got to enjoy the benefits of our secluded yet central location on Tjuvholmen. I wish you a lovely day, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon! Warm regards, Thea Bergseth Assistant Front Desk Manager THE THIEF

    Norway’s finest hotel
Always such a treat staying at this magic location, from the massive Richard Prince cowboy in the lobby to the exquisite rooms (and the spa AND a small actual swimming beach by the fjord) as well as one of Norway’s finest cocktail bars (the last time I went for drinks there I ended up drinking with members of Green Day as well as Ed Sheeran, there were indeed some strange and eclectic music requests the bartender had to accommodate that night). So many hotels these days cut costs by going the «Scandinavian minimalism» route, not the case here: Scandinavian maximalism at its finest. Also, manager (and expat Londoner) Dominic is the best guide you can ask for when it comes to everything from clubbing to museums in Oslo - as well as trout fishing all across Norway. I always keep coming back here and cant wait for my next stay.
Greetings and many thanks for your review of The Thief . Great to read you had such an enjoyable stay . Glad that you took the time to relax in our lobby bar . Sound like you evening was animated to say the least . Where fishing is concerned I´d be happy to show any guest the beauty of a Norwegian river and I can guarantee fish . I´d like to thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts as your feedback is invaluable to us Wishing you a crisp , snowy winter and looking forward to your return Dominic GRM The Thief

    Wonderful Premium Room
I stayed a night in a Premium Room on the fifth floor which had a nice ocean view. The room was very nice and well equipped. No complaints on the cleanliness. The marble bathroom was very stylish, with products from Grown Alchemist. Turndown service included a flask with warm water and tea and a bottle of San Pellegrino which was a nice touch. Overall, I was impressed with the service. My only nitpick was that some of the furniture showed some signs of wear and tear upon closer inspection, and that the floor heating in the bathroom was slightly too warm for my taste. I noticed that in order to change the room temperature, the balcony door had to be closed, but I could'nt find any way to adjust the floor temperature in the bathroom. The breakfast buffet was delicious with a good selection of both warm and cold food, with coffee served at the table. The Spa was slightly underwhelming, luckily it was almost empty when we visited around 16:00 on a Thursday so it was a calm atmosphere. We parked in the parking garage underneath the hotel (around 500kr for a night) which was very convenient.
Greetings and many thanks for your review of our property. Great to hear that you had such an enjoyable stay. As you mentioned we’re located on the beautiful Oslo Fjord with some fine views across the water. Glad that you took the time to explore our spa as I highly recommend a few hours of complete relaxation and indulgence . Our underwater parking is a unique feature and a very convenient addition for our guests . I’d like to thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts as your feedback is invaluable to us. Wishing you a crisp , colourful Autumn and looking forward to your return Dominic GRM The Thief

I travel extensively and The Thief is among my top five anywhere. It is truly unique, very calm and peaceful and the staff make the entire stay wonderful. Its location is perfect for being able to walk to great restaurants, shops and museums.

Friendly and serviceminded staff, beautiful rooms and all around a great experience. Booking went super smoothly, check in was just a pleasure, and the room speaks for itself. I would highly recommend The Thief to everyone looking for a great stay in Oslo.

We had three pleasant nights in The Thief. The bed was fine, the room was clean and the service was good. The breakfast was fine with a choice of a la carte or buffet, but nothing spectacular. We felt very well taken care of, but: There are these small itches: when I tried to take a shower just after midnight, it took more than five minutes before I had look warm water (skin temperature). Tha same thing Sunday morning (9 o'clock), whereas my wife following me in the shower had all the hot water she wanted. Everything is electronically controlled, and you can read about it on your TV or by following the links given by barcodes. I am not illiterate when it comes to electronic systems, but I never found the price list for the mini bar, only the amenities in the drawer above (which was plentiful). I would have preferred a collection of electronic information and a possibility to search for what you cannot find. The overall impression is that of a well run hotel that takes care of its guests, but it comes with a cost. We have had several nights in other Norwegian up-scale hotels that have been much more impressive. And then the question becomes: is a night at The Thief worth its money? And my answer will be: Maybe. At this price range, I will try other hotels the next time we are in Oslo.

I had a very nice stay at The Thief. The room was well-outfitted and spacious, even though my view was of the construction next door. The bathroom has Grown Alchemist products at the sink and in the shower. There was both a shower and a bathtub. There is a turn down service in the evening. I was pleasantly surprised to come back after dinner the first night and find there was a bottle of water next to the bed. It wasn't there the second night but it did come back on the third night. I also loved the tea that they put out for the turn down. One thing that I found strange was when you leave the room and close the door behind you, the door doesn't lock immediately. I'm sure there's a reason for this (the hotel is called "The Thief") but because I am careful, I stood outside my door and waited for the lock to engage. I've never seen this before and wouldn't have noticed had I not checked the door behind me as I left the first time. A stay at The Thief includes free entrance to the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, which I found to be a pleasant surprise. It's a nice museum. Breakfast in the morning takes place at the restaurant. There isn't someone at the host stand at all times so you might have to wait a little bit before you are seated. The staff brings coffee and tea and the rest is an extensive buffet. They must have had food waste issues because there are little signs everywhere encouraging you to only take what you can eat. I really liked the quiche and the green tea. The legendary bar on the ground floor is not open on Sundays and the rooftop bar is covered and has blankets if it's too cold. I found the staff, especially at the front desk, to be friendly and outstandingly helpful.

Greetings, and thank you for your thorough and excellent review. I am glad to see that you had such a memorable stay with us, and we managed to give you a proper THE THIEF-experience. The reason for the delayed locking of the door is actually in case of a fire situation. Every room work as a fire cell, and if guests run out of the room and discover a fire in the hallway preventing you from getting out, you want to get back in to the room. That will not be possible if the door locks immediately. Hope this clears things up. Looking forward to welcoming you back to Oslo and THE THIEF in the future! Best wishes, Axel Assistant Front Desk Manager THE THIEF

Luxury@Scandinavia. You won't get much "on top of something", because already the basics are "on top of"! Let's just say one person can't make use of 9 bed pillows provided, the balcony is a rare occurence at any city hotel (but not here!) and a true/real mineral water provided with turnover service is a really nice finishing touch. Palm Dubai 5* can learn from The Thief.
