A stay at Hotel Gabelshus offers a deep dive into the culture and history of Oslo. The interior is composed of historical details and fantastic paintings. Being in the heart of an elegant residential area and in walking distance from Vigelandsparken, Aker Brygge and the Royal castle you are guaranteed an exciting stay in Oslo. The hotel offers tasty meals in a charming atmosphere with access to our popular terrace for outside dining. Enjoy your breakfast or complimentary evening meal surrounded by murals reflecting the history of the area. The special atmosphere of the dining room and lounges around has been a background of various fashion shoots.Hotel Gabelshus offers a range of salons with a relaxing atmosphere- the hotel library has a dignified style where you can relax with a book, watch TV or enjoy a glass of wine. The so- called fireplace room is furnished with antique furniture and calming colors offering relaxation in comfortable armchairs in front of the open fireplace.Hotel Gabelshus has a long and exciting history. The mansion was erected in 1912 and was originally a lodging house. The three first managers and owners were women, one more special than the other. Miss Sommerfeldt who ran it from 1933-45 lived herself in the building with her two parrots that had free access to anywhere in the building. She ran the place in a caring and authoritative manner at daytime and used to relax with her guests smoking a pipe in the evening.

You may come to experience, as we did, the breakfast- and evening meal- buffet out of food, sticky buffet floors, juice machines out of juice, spilled food and drinks onto the buffet (and more) without the staff tending to it. A snack on the floor of your hotel room may compensate for the lack of a hot evening meal as promised in the hotel advertising, but then again maybe not. However, if you enjoy a tomato-sauce based fish stew, there will be ample for you, as few others do. No vegetarian/vegan hot meal options for neither morning nor evening. How about a shower that also showers the whole bathroom? After which you can dry off with a brown-stained towel.. No towel provided for the wet and slippery floor, though. And of course; no complementary toiletries in this hotel. Note that upper-level staff do not wear the assigned face mask in the buffet-area nor otherwise. Guests have to provide their own masks or buy it at the reception although there's no information preparing guests for this. If you hang the 'Do not disturb' sign on your door chances are the hotel-room telephone will ring off the hook the whole day as the receptionist will want to know what you mean by that. If you cannot answer the phone because you're in an online meeting and thus must not be disturbed, it will be to no avail to turn the sign to 'please, clean my room' the next day as you were too busy to answer the phone the previous day about the 'do not disturb' sign pertaining to that day when the sign was out. If course, if you decide to say anything non-complimentary about any of this the hotel manager willingly regrets your perception of it all. Enjoy your stay somewhere else.

Hi linebX5292WG We are sorry for the incidents that you mention of the evening meal went out of food the last 10 minutes one of the evenings you stayed, the misunderstanding with the room type on check in and that the room was not thoroughly cleaned. This should not happened and we are truly sorry. As communicated in e-mails we also have compensated you with bonus points so you can redeem a free stay, as a token of apology for this. Again we are sorry that this happened to you and we have taken steps to ensure it will not occur again. We do also have vegetarian/vegan meal options for our guest both on breakfast and evening meal, on request. And all staff are wearing face masks at all time through out the hotel also the upper level staff you refer to. This was me and I remember the incident very well when I tried to help you with the juice dispenser. Also some of the other incidents you also mention the facts varies from how we experienced them. Even though my staff and myself are in the service industry and the we happily and courteously serve you as our guest, we also hope we deserve respectful and a courteous tone of voice in return. This was not the fact in the case of any point of contact you had with us through out your stay. Yours truly, Karl Einar Sundby-Bagaas General Manager

We stayed one night, in a rather small double room. The room was just barely large enough to fit the bed with enough room to walk around, and felt rather cramped. I banged my head both in the (enormous!!) ceiling lamp and the slanting roof on more than one occasion, and the door hit the suitcase stand when opened. The bed was comfortable, but it seemed to be no ventilation (due to Covid??), as the room got seriously warm during the night. This was late September, so not warm enough at night outside to explain for this. The bathroom was also very small, and started to show some wear, as a few of the tiles were cracking and chipping, and the magnetic lock on the bathroom door was broken, so it didn't stay shut. Breakfast was good enough, the only thing I'm used to finding in most hotel breakfasts that I didn't find here was fried eggs. There was enough variety, and fresh food, so enjoyed breakfast. We also had an evening meal included, but since we were mainly in Oslo to have dinner at a nearby restaurant, we didn't try this. All in all a pretty average hotel. A bit less than we expected, to be honest, as the hotel looked a bit above average on the hotel site.

Dear Jornarild, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. We are looking forward to refurbishment of the hotel later this year and hope you will visit us again in the future. Yours truly, Karl Einar Sundby-Bagaas General Manager

Double-check all information about the hotel given by the hotel. Quet location, but still you can hear everything going on around you from inside the room. With no expectation of service nor quality this might be a good stay for you. Especiall if you like eggs as a soup instead of scrambled!

After spending three nights in Oslo, I am absolutely charmed by this special city. Very functional hotel, very nicely done, well decorated and appointed, kept clean and cosy. Located in a very quiet and residential neighborhood its a great zone, you can easily walk to wherever you wish to go, including very lovely Frogner park. Enjoyed every day there.
