Welcome to Enter Backpack Hotel. One of town's budget options and a perfect mix between hotel and hostel. Here, we have combined the best of both worlds - the privacy and comfort of a hotel room with the convenience and socializing of our common areas. We are designed for YOUNG travellers, but welcome people of all ages with a young spirit. We are located on the last street of the city center, overlooking the beautiful Fjord and "Storsteinen" mountain. We are 5 minutes walk from Storgata, Tromsø Domkirke and 10 minutes from Polaria and the Polar Museum. The Arctic Cathedral can be seen from our common areas. If Aurora appears in the city center you will be able to see it from our location as we are on the border of the city center and the local's territory. Our goal is to create an atmosphere where travellers can feel at home while abroad.

Detailed Reviews
We had a room with private bathroom with a fantastic view over Tromso. All staff were very kind and helpful. Its a simple hotel, with kitchen and dining room, which is great because we couild prepare our meals there. It is very close to the centre and it is located in ca calm place. The only cons were the noise some guests made during one night but this is due to their lack of education and respect , not because of the hotel's fault.

I loved this place. Centrally located, though a bit of an up hill walk. Minutes away walk from the port, the Visitor center, from several museums, grocery store, bus station...you get the picture. Hotel is clean, tiny rooms, in room dorm fridge and had everything I needed or wanted. Excellent small shower with great hot water/ pressure and heated bathroom floors. Kitchen is available for use, they serve food ( though I've never eatein there), free coffee / tea. free use of washer and dryer with laundry soap (a first for me inall my travels). Three floors/ no elevator.
Simon at the front desk was very helpful, informative ( thanks). You get fresh towels, but no sheets changed or bed made. Not a big deal. If you're traveling on a budget don't hesitate to stay here. Great wifi accessible in the room. Airport shuttle can drop you off at the hotel for 70 NOK.

For its price (considering that accommodation isn't the cheapest thing in Tromsø), I think my stay here was pretty good!
Its location is less than 10 minutes walk from the public library, grocery store REMA 1000 and the main shopping artery Storgata. While it doesn't exactly have a fantastic view and it might be a little confusing getting in the first time, it is a fantastic launching point to your next shopping trip (only complaint is that since it's situated on the top of a hill, lugging baggage around and avoiding black ice on the gravel road makes it particularly tricky.)
Rooms are small, but very neatly maintained. The one I had included a somewhat narrow, but cosy bed (great for keeping warm in winter), a desk, flat-screen TV (only local Norwegian channels, unfortunately), a sofa, a tiny refrigerator and a sink (i.e. shared bathroom and toilet). I think an electronic safe would have been a good addition to the room though. Everything is kept very clean and new looking, however.
The staff here are exceptionally helpful and friendly. I was served by Simon and Angelita who both treated me as if though I were their best friend staying the night in their house.
A small perk of the place is the cheap breakfast at 50 NOK per meal. Considering how a meal at Burger King down the road costs about 70 NOK, I think the morning buffet breakfast here is quite a steal (and it's healthy too).
I understand that some people have complained about the noise. While the rooms aren't exactly 100% soundproof, the small space of the hotel tends to make activity going on outside more apparent. Even a big hotel would suffer the same problems if there were people yelling outside their hallway.
Overall, I think I'd still come back to ABC Hotell Nord if I were in Tromsø again.

I was there in early May 2013 on a Family visit. I travelled with my son and my aunt.
She had her own room with shower and toilet and was content. My son and I had a room with bed bugs! I think it took weeks before the bites were gone, I had to cover them with make up and they itched terribly... Never again, even though the personnel are very friendly.

Me and some friends had been looking forward to a weekend in Tromso, and this hotel had an apartment that was close to downtown, so it was perfect for us. There was a good atmosphere throughout the weekend, and in the mornings, both on Saturday and Sunday, we cleaned up after us.
The suprise came when we had returned home when the guy who ordered the hotel discovered that 2000kr was withdrawn from his bankacount from abc hotel and the deposit of 3000kr did not come back. When we called the hotel, to find out why they did that, we heard things no one of us recognized ourself in. A fire extinguisher that we had not even seen in the apartment the whole weekend was apparently torn off the wall. The railing that was broken and on the lawn when we arrived on the friday(and just as well could have been broken by the guys who had the apartment above us), we for some reason had to pay for. What also was a bit suspicious, was that the neighbors of the hotel claimed the house was not even allowed to be used as an hotel apartment.
So we're not satisfied with the hotel, but it gets one circle for its location.

I have never written a review but my stay here is so bad that I feel compelled to. Don't get me wrong, the staff here are lovely when they are here. The big problem is that they are not staffed at night. And because this is one of the cheapest hotels, groups of students stay here. This is the biggest problem! Because it is left unchecked, the students get drunk and decide to run up and down the stairs(which you can hear) and shout down the hallways. I will be moving to another hotel tomorrow night, so hopefully I will get some of my money back.. We shall see..

ABC Hotel Nord is more of an "advanced" hostel than a hotel. The rooms are small and spartan, but farily clean. Each room has a small refrigerator, but not all rooms are ensuite.
The towels you get are very small (i.e. they don't go around the body - and I'm petite) and scratchy. If you like larger towels and/or towels that aren't crisp from line-drying, bring your own. Like I said, this is a hostel, not a hotel.
There is a large common area and a good-sized eating area, as well as a large kitchen for preparing your own food. Which I suggest you do, at least for breakfast. They serve a breakfast "buffet" for 20 NOK per person. We never used this, but we found the pickings to be substandard - cheap bread and a poor variety of stuff to have on your bread (and nothing healthy!). Only lowfat milk (1.5% fat) and fruit drink (i.e. fruit-flavored sugar water). Coffee and tea are free.
We also noticed, on our last day no less, a sign stating that alcohol in the common areas was forbidden. We drank beer/wine while watching tv some of the nights we were there without anyone saying anything. Maybe it is no longer valid, but we found the rule quite odd, as having a glass of wine with a TV movie or a meal would not be possible in the tiny rooms. And if there is such a rule, people should be warned ahead of time, as it could influence making a decision as to whether or not to stay at this hostel.
Another warning - this hostel has no place for storing luggage, so if you leave your bags there after checkout (for picking up later on), it's really at your own risk.
Otherwise, the location of Hotel Nord is good. You also get free wireless.

Response from StigTroms, Manager at Enter Backpack Hotel

ABC Hotell Nord wishes to give our guests the feeling of living in a clean and homey hotel. We have a common TV-lounge with cable-TV and two PC with free Internet use. The TV-lounge may be used socially together with others. We wish to give our guest a pleasant stay and use of the common area without alcohol. If you want to drink beer/wine while watching TV you can do it in your room. You can have a glass of wine to your meal in the dining room. In the general kitchen you will find all the equipment you need to make your own food. You can make free coffee and tea in our general kitchen. You can take the coffee and tea in a pot/thermos to your room. You can find the nearest supermarket only 300m from the hotel where you can buy food to prepare in the general kitchen. Our hotel concept is developed for guests who see the usefulness in spending their money on other things than accommodation. Even though we offer low prices, we also offer good service and clean rooms with made beds. We have small rooms and low price. The rooms are approx 10 to 18 m2. We have refrigerators in every room, cable-TV (LCD-screen 21 " / 54 cm), phone (free call in Norway), WLAN(free use). The cheapest rooms that make use of the shower/toilet in the corridor have a sink in the room. In the room you will find two towels to each person. The towels are 40 x 60 cm and 60 x 120 cm. We do not serve ordinary breakfast, but offer a very basic self-service meal from our large refrigerated unit. This consists of a choice of hard and soft bread, jam, spreadable and regular cheeses and the like, which we sell for 20 NOK per person (free for children under the age of 16 accompanying adults). This is available 24 hours. I wish you welcome to stay in our homey hotel and enjoy Tromsø!

We had really bad experience in this hotel. I don't understand how this hotel could have a good review, small and smelly rooms, bugs in the bed, dirty and old kitchen. When we checked in and went to the room there were a rubbish in the bathroom, smelly and very small room, there were not even space to open the suitcase, but that is not the worse yet. First night we had bed bugs in the bed and I had a lot of bites. We inform to the reception and the receptionist kindly move us to another hotel, but the damage was already done I got Cellulitis infection from the bites, pain, itchiness. We asked to talk to the manager and the receptionist tell us that there were not a manager at that time but she would inform them about this matter. I went to the emergency and I have been hospitalised for the severity of the infection. We were in Tromso only for 3 days to see the northern lights but I spent my time in the Hospital. We never been contacted by the management at this matter until we sent 2 emails to them and finally got an answer. They refund the hotel stay, which was very logic and never paid the pharmacy bill and did not answering to my email any more. I only get 2 emails from them, one of which saying that they are closing the case. After being back I still had to take antibiotics for one week and wasn't able to work. We are very disappointed of that unprofessional and ignoring treat. I leave this long comment in here because I don't want any other guests go through the same that I went through. That was the worse hotel experience I ever had.

I work as a receptionist myself. . can't believe the bad way I was treated by the manager of ABC hotel. "All our tours had been booked." He was kind of telling me to back off and leave him alone. However, I was grateful for Dagmara's friendly and helpful approach. I then discovered the man was the manager.
Thank goodness I didn't take notice of what he said. I then discovered at the tourist information centre that there were still enough space for me. If he's not willing to help, that was his problem. This manager simply had an attitude.
I had been offered an evening waffles before my stay, however, I was told they stopped doing this because it's too expensive. This hotel was not cheap but isn't willing to give simple treat to guests.
Room tiny NOTHING looks like the photos on the website. My advice to everyone is to pay a little extra to stay somewhere better.

Dear Ràńà H,
A taxi is about 200,- NOK.
And jonathangohyongsing is correct with the bus prices. If you pre-pay for your ticket it is about 36,- in kiosks, or you can buy a 24 hour pass.

Dear Thierry BLANCHETEAU,
I am sorry about the late response.
We are currently doing a lot of improvements at the ABC Hotell, which we are really excited about.
We are for example making a brand new website and updating our internet.
you can book through our new website (abchotell no) however it is not translated to any other languages yet or you can email or call us.
In our three bedroom apartments there is three seperate bedrooms, a newly renovated bathroom, fully equipped kitchen and a living room with a flat-screen TV.
I think this would be a great fit for you.
I hope this helps :)

Fredrik, receptionist
