At Tromsø Bed & Books you are staying at home, while being away from home. We are NOT a regular hotel, B&B or hostel. We are a Bed and Breakfast WITHOUT the breakfast, we are an ever changing community of tourists, or simply: a house with bedrooms. But more than that, we are a home. Your home - in Tromsø.

A charming, welcoming staff. The place was a bit tough to find, but all arrangements-including parking- were excellent. Highly recommended. A fun set-up. It was even possible to do laundry. Group kitchen as a plus , While there is a grocery nearby- better grocery was farther-it helped to have a car.

Went here on 25-Feb to 01-Mar-2019. In general, accommodation prices in Tromso are very steep, even compared to other Norway cities like Oslo or Bergen. It's located about 20 minutes walk from the city center (maybe more in winter!) and about 10 minutes walk to the nearest bus stop (Polaria). The rooms was quite small and there are 2 bathrooms which are shared by total of 5 bedrooms. But it's compensated with the spacious living roomS, kitchen and also laundry + drying machine. The kitchen is quite convenient, you will find everything that you need: fridge, microwave, oven, electric stove and sink. Basic cooking ingredients like olive oil, salt and pepper are also available. You can cook your own meals if you're on budget. Would give it a 5-stars if not for the relatively difficult access due to snow. There was quite a thick snow on the stair way to the door entrance.

Great location, 10min walk maximum to the main city centre. The rooms are simple but clean and tidy. The bathrooms are excellent. The kitchen area is well equipped and a nice chill out lounge area. There is a lovely feel at Bed and books, I felt very much at home and very comfortable, the piano and book swap area is a really nice touch.

There are two locations for Bed & Books, one that is slightly closer to town (45), and cozier, and the other one that is slightly further from town (84), but on the waterfront. I stayed at the Fisherman (84), but did have a chance to get a peak at the other one. At the time, the main reason I stayed at the B&B was because it was relatively much cheaper than the other hotels. However, later, I realized I probably could have stayed at Smart Hotel, with an all inclusive, albeit small, room, for probably about the same rate. The other benefit of Smart Hotel is that is in the center of town, making it easier to stop by the hotel in between activities. Overall, the house is a bit run down, and older, but does have character. I believe there are 3 rooms total, one on the third floor, with living room/kitchen/toilet, 2 on the second floor, with no bathroom, and first floor with bathroom/showers. I stayed on the second floor, and room wasn't large, but had a desk, bed, and couch, and I slept fine all three nights. The downside was that the bathroom is one floor down, and the stairs are small, so you do have to be careful going down. I think I would have preferred staying on the 3rd floor so you have easy access to kitchen, and toilet. However, this could be noisier too. The toilet rooms are tiny, and a bit claustrophobic, but that was okay. The bathroom has two double sinks, a shower (with no closed changing area), and a washer/dryer. One of the biggest bonuses for me was the use of washer / dryer, but the dryer has been broken for quite some time and not available. The weather in March was dry enough though, that I managed to do a load of laundry at around 3pm, and my clothes were dry by the next morning (including thick wool socks). The other thing they don't mention is that there is something in the walls that causes a slight stink. They said they had it tested, and it's not hazardous, and provide a mister in the bathroom to help cover up the smell. It's not terrible, but it is there. The kitchen was sufficient for what I needed, but I didn't do more than boil water. It was nice to be able to store food, and have a full sink and living room to hang out in when I had some down time. That was quite pleasant. Overall, it was an okay stay, but if you're looking for something a bit more up to date, and less old feeling, this is probably not the place for you. I also highly recommend trying to get into the other location, and not this one, if you can. One good thing about the location is that the Coop supermarket is about a 3 min walk, so it's easy to pick up food and groceries. Overall, I am only giving Bed&Books three stars mainly because it had some issues (like the lingering odor - which really wasn't bad), broken dryer (which actually turned out not to be a problem due to dryness), a bit run down feeling, and the fact that it is a bit of a hike from town. Otherwise, it is nice to stay in a place that has character and a kitchen.

This hostel is really cosy with a beautiful library/living room. As far as I could see there are 5 rooms in the house with a maximum of 10 people staying at any time. There are 2 bathrooms which are clean and nice and we did not have any issues with sharing these even when the house was fully booked. The rooms and beds are rather small but have everything one needs. The place is about a 10 min walk from the centre of Tromsø. There are more central hotels for sure but this place is unbeatable for the price!
