There are two Mercure hotels very close together. We chose the Mercure Vienna First based on the photos on the website and it was an excellent choice. The hotel is very well located, despite being in a car-free location, but there was no problem, as the taxi dropped us off 10 meters from the hotel entrance.

The room is very comfortable and clean, the breakfast was excellent and the service was kind.

A most pleasurable stay in a location perfectly situated for Innere Stadt. Checking in was very welcoming and helpful. The room was fine and clean and with the possibility of making coffee and tea. Breakfast is very good and fresh - and the service is impeccable.
I can only recommend it.

Visited Vienna a for a short city break. The hotel is situated in a little cobbled square where bars/restaurants are situated. Our room looked over the front of the hotel and was very noisy at night, so ear plugs are a must.
The reception staff were amazing and spoke very good English, they were very helpful and could not do enough for you. Its a shame we couldn’t say the same about the breakfast staff.
I felt because we were English we were ignored. The first morning all other couples that arrived at the same time were dealt with very quickly. We were seated and ignored, we even had to go and find our own cutlery so we could eat our breakfast.
The second morning we had to ask to be served hot drinks as again we were ignored. I asked for a pot of hot water as I had my own tea bags. Eventually the waitress came over with it and she then was extremely shocked when I asked for a cup. ( I don’t know how she thought I would drink out of a teapot!)
Over she came with a cup, no saucer as other guests had and no spoon!! I gave up asking for anything else and left shortly after.
I would advise to eat breakfast out in the many good cafes in the vicinity.
The best thing about the hotel was the free walking tour offered on a Saturday morning. It took around 2 hours and the guide was extremely engaging and very knowledgeable on local history. Make sure you give it a go if you want to see places you wouldn’t know about as a normal tourist.
Standard room was small but adequate, pillows very flat and soft but bed comfy.
Bathroom was not overly clean (dusty) and towels were not replaced leaving us with 1 large and 1 small towel between us.
I cannot say we would stay here again.

This hotel is located near the scene of a terrorist attack in November 2020, and the area is still patrolled by soldiers. That probably makes it extra safe, but cars are unable to drive up to the hotel. It can be reached on foot without climbing stairs if approached from Stephansplatz, Brandstatte, Kramergasse, Hoher Markt and Judengasse.

We won't be returning to this hotel. The decor is dark and gloomy, and the lighting in the rooms is poor. On arrival we found the safe locked and the TV handset didn't work. We weren't told that the soft drinks and water in the minibar were included in the room rate, so we wasted money buying our own from Billa. The buffet breakfast was dull and not particularly appetising.

The good points:-
1. Like most hotels in Austria, it was very clean.
2. Our room (431) was quiet and not affected by street noise.
3. It is only a five-minute walk from a fabulous restaurant, Griechenbeisl.
4. Richard in reception kindly spent a considerable amount of time trying (unsuccessfully) to help us to redeem our Accor points.

We booked this hotel, but it turned out to be closed. The owners only informed us weeks after booking and shortly before traveling. They rebooked us to another branch very nearby, stating that it would have the same quality (mercure Wien Zentrum). Meanwhile other hotel rates had increased so we had little choice to accept, but we regretted it during our stay. The hotel room was very hot as the AC doesnt work properly during the Viennese summer. Opening the window was not an option. All windows are street facing. Our room was directly above the entrance with noise from people entering and leaving, but also of loud drivery trucks than kept their engines running. Complaints were not addressed during our stay.

I am writing this post in the middle of the night from the hotel because sleeping here just isn’t an option. The hotel is not air conditioned that is a blatant lie. I asked three different staff members about what can be done to make the room cooler all of which said they’d look, but I know that was a lie as well. I opened my window at night (which it said not to because of the air conditioning), but it’s so loud outside that it wasn’t worth the mild relief of the scalding hot room.

I am looking forward to checking out. Don’t be fooled by the four stars, you are better off elsewhere. This is terrible.

The location of the hotel is great, as it’s walking distance to a lot of Viennas most visited sites and also a close distance from the subway, which can take you further out from the city centre. The room was also good, although a bit small, but no real complaint, just an observation. What brings this hotel down is the breakfast. There’s nothing done right in there. The coffee is bad (which I don’t get, because they have a fancy espresso machine up front, but they get the coffee from the back?!), the scrambled eggs are bad, the juice is bad… Everything just feels cheap and without any thought. With a better breakfast, this would be a really really good hotel. A bit of a shame.

My friend and I , we had a lovely time in Wien and also at this hotel.
We checked in late in the evening and went straight to the room; bed was very comfortable and spotless room. Twin bed as requested, even though at the time I reserved was not available, they arranged to do so (thanks).
We did not have breakfast, however we went to have a look, and it looked nice. Next time, we will try breakfast!
The hotel is well located , in town centre. You can easily walk everywhere, apart from if you would like to visit Schonbrunn Palace - you have to go by metro .
Also is well connected to go by bus to the airport, it takes only 20 minutes.
I really appreciate the staff at reception.

As we arrived at the hotel, we were a little concerned as there were signs of construction work in the surrounding area. However, our check in, which I pre authorised informing them of our midday arrival was great in that we had our room available even though check in was 15:00.
The room was also very good with comfy bed, great shower and unobtrusive air conditioning.
We took up the offer of the free walking tour which was available in either English or German, the lady who took the English tour on the 22nd July was extremely knowledgeable and showed us parts of the city we would not have found and gave us the most enjoyable 2 hours.
The hotel is very well located within walking distance of the museum quarter, the rathaus Square where we spent many relaxing hours.
Thank you Mercure for being a great base for such a great short city break.

The location was just a short walk from everything. The room was spacious and nice, and the breakfast was really good! The people working at the hotel was really nice, and when we arrived, we got a question if we wanted to attend a free guided tour in Vienna the next morning. We accepted and had a really nice informative tour in the streets of Vienna with a really nice tour-guide. In the evening we wanted to have goulash-dinner and asked the young man in the reception for recommendation of a restaurant that had good goulash. He gave us three alternates, and we picked the first one. The recommendation was excellent, and we ended up having the best dinner. At check-out they ordered a taxi for us, and all together our stay at the hotel was the best! Would definitely stay her if we ever visit Vienna again!
