In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.

The hotel is situated in a very interesting part of Vienna, in a pedestrian square. That should have made for complete peace and quiet and often it did. The square though is home to several bars and there could be a lot of noise from those late into the night (at 3am one day there was a person with a trumpet!). The hotel is also beautifully situated for the airport if you catch the non-stop, half-hourly, bus from Morzinplatz. For the price we paid, we found the hotel slightly cramped, with narrow corridors and rooms (and, particularly. our bathroom) a bit smaller than would be ideal. What the corporate world would think of as character and individuality (ie wackiness) had been injected into the public spaces but the bedroom itself was a bit drab, with little to lift the spirits. But actually it, and the bathroom, was well-equipped and the bed was very comfortable, surely one of the most important features of any lodging place. The breakfast area was at times too crowded for the number of people staying in the hotel; on at least we went on an early morning stroll round the city and came back later when it was much better. Although unadvertised, we did find that that they would happily provide boiled eggs. The lady in the breakfast room was a real character and a complete star. So would we go back? Quite possibly, but I'd want to pay a bit less than I did on this occasion.

We loved our stay here at the after New Years. The hotel is located in a walking distance from Schwedenplatz metro/tram/bus-station, so you can move around the city to every direction conveniently. Our selection of room was the Privilege room, which had more space and amenities. The guests before us had slept late, so the room wasn't ready on time, but the lady at the reception was very professional and polite explaining the situation to us and gave us free vouchers to the hotel restaurant/cafe so we could wait there. The breakfast is also served at the same place, and it was comprehensive enough to start the day with. The barista also makes and serves fresh coffee (lattes, espressos, cappucinos etc) to tables, which was a nice touch. Hotel was very quiet, clean, renovated with style but still keeping the classical vibe. Staff from cleaning ladies to restaurant workers were awesome. Hope to see you again, when we return to Vienna.

We recently spent three days in the Mercure Vienna First which is located in a pedestrian square surrounded by bars and restaurants. There are plenty of choices for food and drink just steps from the hotel entrance. Despite this the rooms are very quiet and well equipped and we heard no noise at all from outside. The room had robes, slippers, free mini bar and a coffee machine. We loved our rubber ducky! The bathroom was small but nicely decorated and the whole room was kept very clean. We loved the Waltz dance moves on the hallway carpets..very cool. The staff were very friendly and always greeted you going in or out of the hotel and they were quick to offer advice. The hotel is within walking distance of many of the sights and is basically right in the city so many shops and restaurants are close by. If I had to have a negative I feel the the breakfast was a little basic and whilst they had someone making coffees and also a coffee machine you had to chase up staff to get tea rather than it being on offer with the other hot beverages. Having said that if i came back to Vienna I would stay here again.

Was recently in Vienna (just got back yesterday) and stayed at the Mercure Vienna First located a quick walk from St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Hofburg Palace. The hotel was charming, well located, had a restaurant on site and more importantly the staff was amazing! Everyone there was friendly and helpful. A special shout out to Oliver Lang who was helpful even before our trip started. Staying at this hotel made the vacation even better. Thank you so much for everyone there! PS the rubber duckies were super cute as well.
