Stayed in Vienna for 2 nights at the Rathaus Hotel and loved it. The hotel is in an excellent central location midway between two u-bahn stations and within easy walking distance to the main attractions. Rooms are all individually styled and our room was lovely and huge for a city centre hotel. Wine was delicious. Ate out at breakfast although... More

Lovely hotel very modern and clean, friendly helpful staff. The hotel is aimed at wine enthusiasts who would love there large varied selection, not my cup of tea but they also sell a great beer so all good 😂 Continental breakfast only which was fine but no real menu for evening which was ok for us as we eat out.... The Hotel Rathaus Wein & Design was absolutely one of the single best experiences we have had in 50 years of global travel. Each one of the rooms is named for an Austrian winery, and each of the wines we tried was flawless. We knew it was going to be a unique experience at check in when I placed my... More

We stayed here for 4 days prior to boarding our river cruise ship. Located within walking distance of interesting spots, great local coffee shops and restaurants. Quiet neighborhood. Has a relaxing "wine garden" to enjoy a glass of wine and some local cheeses after a busy day sightseeing. Staff speaks English and was very helpful with any question or request.

We loved this hotel. Normally we enjoy quaint and cozy/historical. This is a completely renovated, well-conceived hotel in a historic building. Our room was awesome--spacious, with all sorts of well-planned shelves and spots to put things. No space was wasted. Shower was great, good water pressure. The mattresses were great, more American style than European, with those wonderful individual down... More

This hotel was recommended by a friend and we were so glad we followed his advice. It is a little off the beaten track but it was an easy to walk to the metro. There were plenty of restaurants near by--Trilogie was great. They also suggested the Mexican. Our room was large, the shower was the best I have ever... More

Dear Ann, so good to know you followed your friends´ recommendation :)! Thank you for staying with us and also thank you for your kind words. There is only one point I have to correct: the owners are not involved in the hotel, as they live in Salzburg. But good to know you had the feeling it is actively run... More

What a surprise: initially I chose the hotel for the "wine" philosophy and found an interesting concept in a historic building with excellent staff and of course brilliant wines. My room was facing a small courtyard and was never-the-less bright and friendly. All employees seem to be sommeliers. The breakfast is really something. Rarely have I seen such a selection... More

We stay here with my wife and 1 baby. Hotel is very nice but location is not in a heart of old town but not far (10 minute walk distance) Room is quite big when compare to other hotel in the city. Staying in Josefstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theater, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighborhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicenter. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighborhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
