I stayed in a standard single room and was thrilled to have a small balcony overlooking a beautiful church - I could hear the church bells and horses going by every day, which felt very authentic. The room was a great size, clean and well equipped. The included breakfast was delicious with a wide selection on offer. Staff were so friendly and helpful. I couldn’t find any faults and will absolutely return when I next come to Vienna.
I had stayed at the hotel in 1998 and 1999 and after a period of staying in larger Viennese hotels like the Bristol, Intercontinental, Meridien and Marriott, I was looking forward to staying at a more intimate, family-run property.
First impressions were positive. The lady who checked me in was very nice. My room was available when I arrived at lunchtime and I loved the French balcony with a view of St. Peter’s. I liked the little entryway to the room with another door to the living area that I could close to block corridor noise.
There were a few small disappointments. Even in a superior room, there was no minibar, so no place to keep drinks cold. Breakfast was included, but it was not up to the standard of other hotels I have stayed at in Austria. Scrambled eggs were hard and congealed on the burner, there was no homemade muesli, melon was cut too close to the rind and was rather tasteless, dishes were not always replaced after they ran out, and service was perfunctory and impersonal.
On the second night of my stay, a curtain completely fell off its runner and the other two curtains also then started to dangle off the runner which was clearly defective. I mentioned this the next morning and was assured the problem would be solved.
However, the next night night, I saw that the curtain that had fallen off had merely been folded and put on a shelf, while the runner had not been replaced and so the remaining two curtains continued to slide off the runner if one attempted to draw them. Nobody had bothered to tell me that the problem had not been fixed and, if so, why not.
I complained late in the night and again in the morning before I checked out. No amends were made. An apology was politely made for the unsatisfactory situation and a coffee at the bar was offered, which I declined. There was never any offer of a more significant gesture such as a late check-out (which would have been a no brainer as the room could not be given to another guest without the curtain issue fixed) or a discounted rate for the two nights concerned by the problem.
Having paid a rate of 175€ per night, I did expect better resolution of a problem, along with proper communication if the problem could not be resolved (rather than waiting for me to remark on it again myself) and a more substantial gesture than the offer of a drink.
All in all, a disappointment, particularly since I had looked forward to my stay a lot.
Stayed with a group of friends in single rooms. These are small but perfect for one. There was a well stocked bathroom.
Reception staff were very friendly and booked us into the four rooms early for us to go see the sites. I called down to the reception for help to get it work the AC, and they were friendly and efficient. It then worked! I know another friends AC wasn't working correctly throughout, but I'm unsure if they caned down/took on my hints. We were on the top floor with no view, but as a single room and no desire to live in my room, no issue!
The reception staff were happy to hold baggage on a late flight and arrange a taxi for us.
My only complaint with the room - no kettle or small fridge. TV with some English speaking channels, so all good!
The breakfast here was superb and filled me for the day. Everything was fresh and tasty. It's a continental breakfast, so please do not expect a 'fry up', but you can eat like a Lord.
My 4, not 5 stars, is purely the room facilities and an expensive bar. If these are not an issue I'd stay here in a heart beat for its location and breakfast. Especially when I return with my family (would be a larger room and on the reviews I've seen so far the hotel will take on the advice of a room kettle!).
My room was to the front, overlooking St Peter's Catholic Church. The air conditioning worked well, and I was grateful for it! The room was on the 5th floor and was spacious, the bed comfortable and there was a safe available. No fridge or tea /coffee making facilities in the room but I was aware of this from previous reviews and it wasn't an issue for me. The bathroom had a shower rather than a bath (again, not an issue for me) and there was plenty of hot water.
All of the staff were friendly and helpful and the receptionist arranged a taxi pick-up for me when I was leaving - I requested this the evening before.
The breakfast dining room was airy and there was plenty of choice available.
There is a small bar in the hotel but I didn't have time to have a drink in it.
I would happily book this hotel again if I was visiting Vienna.
Our rooms were nice and, yes, they could do with a fridge and a coffeepot, but we knew they didn't have them. Only flaw was a VERY loud air conditioner one night and a little bit of a skirmish the next day about making sure it was fixed. After a couple of discussions we asked to change rooms and at first there wasn't one, but then when I pointed out that they really needed to help and that I in fact was paying for two rooms for a week each, they relented and offered us two (suddenly found) rooms to pick between! But in general everyone was lovely, the place was great and I would highly recommend.
"My balcony overlooked 2 cafes. So, depending on the time of year, if you're a windows open person, take that into consideration, noise-wise."Read full review
