With its 127 luxuriously furnished rooms, Ruby Lissi is centrally located in the first district and therefore directly in the heart of the Vienna. Only a couple of blocks away from Stephansplatz and Schwedenplatz, the hotel offers the ideal starting point for a tour of the Austrian capital. The design theme of the public areas was inspired by Lissi’s namesake, Empress Elisabeth and her travel activities around the middle and end of the 19th century.

Horrible experience. Very aggressive personnel. You pay the price of a Marriott you get a low cost Ibis. No real bathroom in the room. Shower and toilet in a small cabin, the sink is in the bedroom!!! The towels are in the toilet. The sink was clogged and was never fixed. We made a mistake during reservation and booked 2 rooms instead of 1. We asked for a discount or a cancellation. We had a straight NO with a VERY VERY UNPLEASANT manager. Stay away from this hotel. Any Ibis will be better than this very expensive place.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Ruby Lissi Vienna in mid November. Location is perfect if you’re travelling in from the airport, 10 minutes from the main train station or 2 minutes from the closest U Bahn. Hotel is right in the middle of town, everything was within walking distance for us. On arrival the staff were very friendly and helped us with the self check in. You’re able to pick between daily maid service or a free drink per person with maid service every 3 days, we picked the free drink option (was a great bar and so many drink options including cocktails, beer, wines) as we prefer not to have maid service anyway! Staff were very helpful with explaining this all to us. We chose the cosy room for 2 people. The room itself was compact but larger than most of the rooms we’d had in Italy and Greece so we were pleasantly surprised! The layout may be a little tricky if you want a lot of privacy but for a couple there was no issue! Shower can be seen from the bedroom but there’s a curtain to close this off if you want and the toilet is behind frosted glass with the basin in the main room. The bed was very comfortable, the only slightly odd thing was the duvet is 2 separate ones laying across the bed so one covers your feet and the other your torso. We tried it this way and also just having one duvet each, both options were a bit strange but worked well enough, not a major issue at all but if this is something that would bother you keep it in mind. In terms of room amenities there was a large safe, hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash and hand lotion. Would very happily return to this hotel on our next trip to Vienna.

Very central location, close to transport. The rooms are clean and overall okay. But the staff Alex, Oscar and George are super friendly, nice and helpful. The bar/ reception area is amazing to study/ work/ chill and feel homey with the relaxed attitude of staff

I booked my parents a trip to Vienna as it was the one place they had always wanted to visit. I am delighted that they have informed me on their return that the Ruby Lissi Hotel was the highlight of the trip. What set it apart was the staff, specifically Cedric, Leon, Vici and Michi who went out of their way to make it a trip to remember. Thank you all

My partner and I had a pleasant two night stay at this hotel. After reading many reviews and seeing the repeating word of ‘quirky’ to describe it, this is definitely the best word to describe the hotel overall. The reception area is lovely, the self service check in is great and the bar staff are even lovelier and very helpful. The rooms are clean, spacious and the bed is super comfortable. The shower is questionable, but if you feel this would bother you, don’t book the hotel! It didn’t bother us as there is a curtain to draw across. The hotel is close to the centre and public transport options. The hotel offers a lovely continental breakfast with delicious croissants and other beautiful breakfast options. You can ask for a coffee from the machine behind the bar which is included in the free breakfast, there is also a station for tea and filtered coffee. We really enjoyed staying at this hotel and would definitely return if we visited Vienna again! :-)

Give this place a miss. They are upfront on their website that they provide a shower, bed and breakfast. But that's about it Plus our shower stunk of mold. There is usually only one "team-member" on duty at any one time, which means there is absolutely no service . Instead, it is a temple to an intense marketing campaign of fake hipster coolness-- Their "brand" includes vapid slogans on the walls such as "You've found our treasure, now make it your story", or "Goodbye my love,, goodbye my friend, now review us on Trip Advisor." Fake reproduction furniture and artififacts--tiny rooms, surly staff. Nothing like the charm, history and authenticity of Vienna.

My wife treated me to a surprise trip away for our anniversary and when we were walking through the bar to reception (which is at the end of the bar) she apologised as I think was disappointed. She was wanting the elegance and luxury of a more traditional luxury hotel. Well while she apologised I can assure you that while the place was quirky, like a boutique hotel is I guess, we had a great 5 day stay. From the outside it doesn’t look like a hotel and you clearly walk through some kind of foyer to enter the bar area of which the reception area sits on the end and same staff serve and welcome you. The staff I have to say couldn’t have been more friendly, always saying hello with a smile and no issues for anything. The bar area is a nice modern quirky (I’ve used that word twice now, but that’s how I would describe it) one. We drank in there a couple of times and was reasonably priced and nice drinks (lots of lime n lemon in our g&t’s😀). Lifts to the rooms are only accessible if u present ur room card so security wise it’s good and then the room itself where after we arrived I read and saw some not too favourable reviews, but I have to say they worked. They are rather small but actually big enough. The shower and toilet are in a glassed off area so k get why others have said no privacy etc but reality is there is a curtain u can pull across if u want. The shower was great and powerful with 2 varieties of both shampoo and shower gel so no moans from us. In terms of storing ur clothes there was a wardrobe with a few hangers (although we asked for some more and got them so no issues here) and a high shelf. This shelf is really too high to store ur clothes on as even despite being 6’4 I couldn’t see so it’s just for storing ur bags. So you can hang you clothes up put where do u put ur underwear or socks as no drawers !! That was a slight negative and a bit of a funny one but apart from that and a hard floor was our only real area where we could have said improvements could be made- why an issue with the hard floor, well it’s hard to clean and keep hair and dust free so when u come out of the shower u tend to find all the bits around…. The bed itself is a big one and have to say suuuuuper comfy. Neither of us had any issues sleeping once we found that we could open the windows as otherwise the ac didn’t seem to work effectively and the room was boiling… we had the 3 windows constantly open night and day and despite it being city centre ish didn’t really experience loads of noise so that was fine and didn’t have to get dry throats due to excessive ac. One strange thing I’ve never experienced, and maybe this Is due to the heat, there are two quilts on the bed, not one each running lengthways but two, the first one running across the bottom of the bed and covering your feet and legs and the top one covering your upper half…. That was weird and couple of time there ended up being big gaps when they had come away from each other.. Something else that was a bit weird, but sensible in another way, was to be asked if we wanted to swap room service for room cleaning which we did although given we were there 5 nights maybe we should have bartered and asked for 2 vouchers each. Despite this they clean every 3rd day anyway… So finally location, well 1 minute away is the metro, 20 seconds there are 2 or 3 bars, 5 mins walk u are nearly in the centre so we really couldn’t complain about this, superbly located. So if you want ur typical luxury branded hotel then this is different but We certainly wouldn’t have any issues staying here again, but would just take a bag to keep my socks and boxers in, and my wife needn’t have apologised. Thanks Ruby Lissi 😎

Came here for 3 nights in September and found only positives! Hotel and their bar was very clean, bed comfy and room was massive. The shower having a glass screen into the bedroom was an interesting touch! Greeted everytime we came in from our adventuring around the city and found it to be a great place to stay. Location is about a 5/10min walk from the Main Street and very easy to find. Hotel runs an environmental scheme where you can decline room service every day and in return you get a free drink at the bar. This is a great touch and something I have never experienced before. Thankyou for a lovely stay :)

Visited for 2 nights last weekend - what a dreadful experience! No doubt the Hotel will respond with "all the info is on the website, so you should have known etc" blah, blah blah, but it has to be seen to be believed. Where do I start? Firstly we tried to check in and was told our rooms had been booked 4 times so sorting that out meant we missed the walking tour we had booked. We were also told there is no housekeeping and that our rooms would not be made up - to compensate, we were given a single drink voucher. So in essence, one small beer each instead of clean fresh towels, room cleaned and bed made for 3 days. When we finally arrived at our room, we could not believe it- it was tiny and so small that the shower was beside the bed, the padded chairs doubled up as bedside cabinets (meaning you could not put anything on them), the sink was at the end of the bed and toilet room next to that (where the small towels were) - in short, no privacy at all! It was meant to be a double room but there was barely enough room for one and the other person could see everything at all times - the shower cubicle was all glass and so small you could not wash in it and flooded the floor when you opened the door - towels were hung in the toilet at the other end of the room - these stayed soggy for 3 days because of no house keeping. There was no tea or coffee making facilities, no en suite, no mini bar, no decent pillows and the 2 quilt/bed covers were not big enough to make sleeping comfortable. We arrived back late so endured it for the first night - next morning we wanted to pay for an upgrade but the guy on reception "Tobias" would not hear of it - he dismissed us out of hand asking "what is your problem, this is normal for a boutique hotel" - he refused to help us upgrade - we were willing to pay but he still just gave us a smug grin and walked off. We tried to have breakfast but even that was chaos as there was not enough tables for all the guests or enough staff to look after them - we had to queue for ages, wait for the table to be wiped and then be disappointed at the food on offer - nothing hot was available at all In short, our trip to Vienna was ruined because we slept in an expensive very hot dirty, open plan single room box with no privacy or creature comforts for 2 nights - we couldn't even open the window because of the all night bar under our room! But at least we did get one small beer for free! The footprint of the whole room was so small, all the facilities were in the one open plan space, making it a totally uncomfortable and unpleasant experience - It was also expensive - I have stayed in better back packing hostels. Do yourselves a favour, if you go to Vienna, make sure you give the Ruby Lissi a Missi and find a "normal" Hotel. Oh and another thing - there is no parking.....

Response from Marketing Ruby, Marketing at Ruby Lissi Hotel Vienna

Hey Pete, Thank you very much for taking the time to rate your stay with us. We’re sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay as much as you could have. It is very important for us that our guests feel comfortable with us, which is why we also attach great importance to cleanliness in all our hotels. For the sake of the environment, our guests can choose whether they want daily cleaning or every three days. If the guest chooses the second option at check-in, he or she will receive a complimentary drink at the hotel bar. Of course, we also clean the room every day, if desired. Just talk to one of our hosts about that. While our city centre location offers lots of advantages, it does mean we have less space to play with. That’s why we design our rooms in a unique way to make the best use of the area available – by integrating the bathroom into the main room, for instance. It's a pity you did not like this so much. If you'd like more space next time, our WOW and LOFT rooms are bigger, and most have a cosy armchair to curl up in. But thank you for the feedback regarding the shower. There was probably a problem with the seal. We will forward your feedback to the team responsible in order to fix that. In line with our philosophy, we don't offer everything, but in our eyes we offer the right things: a central location, top design, rooms equipped to a high standard with luxury in bed and bathroom. Therefore, there is no minibar and no tea/coffee facilities in our rooms. Instead, there is a bar that is open 24/7 and offers great drinks and original Italian Hausbrandt coffee. In addition, you will find our Galley on almost every floor, where you can find snacks and drinks. We always want our guests to feel welcome and at home. That's why we do our best every day. Sorry to hear you obviously got a different impression in contact with our hosts and there was some inconvenience regarding your requested upgrade. We hope you'll still give us another chance some time and we could welcome you back to one of our Ruby Hotels soon. Your Ruby Lissi Team
