Excellent location and premises, nice bar, comfortable rooms and friendly staff. Location is its main strength as it is 2 minutes walk from Vienna s city centre and all main areas of interest. A hidden gem in Vienna s city centre. Highly recommended

Hotel's Favorite
This was our third stay at the Steigenberger Hotel Herrenhof, and once again it exceeded our expectations. The hotel's central location in the inner city of Vienna provides easy access to many of the city's attractions within a short walking distance. Additionally, the hotel is conveniently located near a metro station, which allows for a stress-free trip from the airport to the hotel for a reasonable price of 4.40 Euros. During our stay, we opted for a Deluxe room with a King size bed. The room was impeccably clean, and its modern design made us feel as if we were the first guests to use it. The bed itself was incredibly comfortable, and the pillow menu allowed us to choose our preferred pillows for a perfect night's sleep. We also appreciated the daily refills of the minibar with beers and soft drinks. The breakfast served at the hotel is simply amazing. With an endless buffet of options to choose from, we were spoiled for choice. The freshly made eggs and the wide variety of coffees and teas were particularly noteworthy. Last but not least, the front desk staff at the Steigenberger Hotel Herrenhof were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Their warm and welcoming attitude made us feel right at home. We are already looking forward to our next stay at the Steigenberger Hotel Herrenhof, and without a doubt, it will be our first choice when we return to Vienna.

Overall, enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend this hotel if you visit Vienna. It was cheaper than some of the other major known hotels but provided the same excellent service and amenities I would expect from those hotels. I went to Vienna to visit the Christmas markets. This hotel was the perfect location to some boutique locations and walking distance to some of the larger markets. It's on a quiet street so didn't hear any noise at night but just 5 minutes from some of the main streets. The hotel is very clean and the staff is friendly. They answered all my questions about attractions, restaurants, and made sure I had what I needed for my stay. The room was nice and spacious. Everything was clean and the room cleaning service was great. I wish I had a better view from my window - my window faced inward so all I got was views of other people's windows, but it wasn't that big a deal since I wasn't in the room much. I didn't hear any noise at night so even with facing other rooms it was quiet. They have a nice restaurant in the hotel which was convenient when I arrived late at night and didn't have the energy to venture out. They also had a buffet breakfast (for an additional fee) every morning until about 11am. It typically is not open every day or runs for that long, but due to the holiday season they extended the service hours which was nice. It has typical breakfast items (bread, fruit, meats, cheeses, eggs, sausage, bacon) and had a made-to-order egg station. It was good enough for my food needs.

We were very pleased overall with our stay at the Steigenberger. What follows are highlights of what we most liked as well as some minor areas that could be improved. Pros: Others have noted this in the reviews that led me to book this hotel, but the location is fantastic. Not only is it central, it is located on one of the relatively small to mid-size streets (as opposed to the grand boulevards filled with cars, buses and street cars) that is more pedestrian-friendly than some of the bigger streets. It is pleasant to be able to walk right out of the hotel into a charming street that is not overrun with traffic but still central and lively. So many of the things on our “to do” list are located on a short walking distance from the hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful and though we did not use the extra services, it is handy that they offer a gym and spa. The entrance area is nice with a little lounge-like area to hang out. Our room was very comfortable and very quiet (but see more about sound in the “con” section). The bed and the pillows were like sleeping on a cloud, and they have a “pillow menu” for those who want to make specific pillow requests. The room had all the main features I look for: a safe, decent closet space and hangers, a tv that can be rotated out from the wall to face the bed (in addition to local channels, there were my go-to international news sources of CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera). I was worried when I first saw the bathroom door (which is a frosted glass) because I loathe transparent, non-private bathrooms (I am trying to understand who wants these and why?!), but it turned out to not be an issue because there is an additional glass door inside the bathroom that leads to the separate toilet area. This and the fact that the bathroom is not directly in view of the bed area provides sufficient privacy. Some additional nice touches included chocolates left each day, room slippers, and since we were there over the holidays, it was a nice treat to get cookies for Christmas and some much appreciated bubbly for New Year’s! Cons: For the most part, I loved our room and the hotel amenities, but there were a few features that could be improved. The bathroom shower is like many you find in Europe: pretty but unintelligently designed. There is a partial glass partition that is insufficient to keep water from spraying all over the floor and soaking the bathmat (so that you really get no practical use of the bathmat unless you keep it as far away from the shower as the bathroom allows) and making a slippery mess of the floor. The shower’s soap container is also poorly chosen in relation to the tiny bottles of shampoo and soap provided. It should be a continuous flat metal or porcelain surface instead of metal bars through which things can slip and which do not provide a stable surface for the mini soap-shampoo bottles to stand on). You have to rest the mini bottles just so in this tiny shower “shelf” so that they don’t fall over. Annoying. This leads me to the bathroom product packaging. I was surprised to see that this hotel has some sort of positive review based on “sustainability” since it uses those tiny plastic bottles for soap, conditioner and shampoo, a practice that should really be done away with entirely. It would be wise to switch over to larger containers that are fixed in the bathroom / shower and refilled on a need basis. Additionally, the towel / clothing hooks are directly across from the shower head, so you risk getting them wet while showering. The trashcan in the bathroom has such a small aperture that you need to have the dunking skills of a pro basketball player to get anything to land in it. Admittedly, these are all minor matters, but details like this indicate whether any thought went into the fixtures chosen and what the guest experience is like. We had a room at the far end of the hallway, which I believe contributed to how quiet it was overall (less people walking by), but the few times where noise was an issue it was entirely staff related. This is something that management should address with housekeeping. When the staff are cleaning the rooms, they allow the doors to slam shut on their own, so while in your room (still trying to sleep in some cases) you sometimes hear doors slamming throughout the hallway. I actually looked outside our door to watch this process to confirm the source of the noise. The cleaning staff should be advised that this creates a lot of unnecessary noise for guests – just pull the door shut and do so as quietly as possible. We only ate at the hotel twice: once was a late night bite at the bar / lounge and the other was breakfast in the main restaurant. Neither were that impressive. I suspect the main restaurant is a much better experience for dinner, but the pasta I had in the lounge / bar was overcooked and uninteresting, and the breakfast buffet was fine but not that interesting for the price. I was glad to have not paid in advance for the breakfast option, especially since there are so many excellent cafes in Vienna. Nonetheless, the bar – lounge area is very lovely and lively with live entertainment some evenings. It looks like a good place for a drink and quick bite. My bigger criticism is one that I saw mentioned in a few other reviews: this hotel allows for a free coffee pod use (and I believe a bottled water) the first day, and thereafter it charges for it. This seems oddly cheap for a hotel of this apparent caliber and really undermines the overall guest experience. I don’t know what the charge is to use the coffee pods beyond that first day (did not want to find out in a city filled with great coffee options) but the fact that there is any charge at all is really missing the bigger picture of customer service. This is typically included in a hotel room fee, and only food items from the mini-refrigerator incur a charge. The good news is that good coffee options are near at hand, but I am one of those people who likes a “starter” cup of coffee just to begin the day while I am getting ready, and I would have used the coffee machine in the room if it had been free to do so. As for the water, Vienna has excellent tap water so you are fine just drinking directly from the sink’s supply and not risking whatever charge may come from the bottled water. In spite on these critiques, my overall impression of this hotel is positive, and I would stay here again. Our room was quite comfy, the temperature always perfect (in spite of the outdoor chill), it was very quiet when the cleaning crew were not around, the wifi signal was strong, and the tv had great options. The staff were very helpful, and it is a charming looking place. The location is a real plus, and it came in handy when we needed to stop by the hotel between sightseeing or walk back after a late evening. It is also more affordable than many nearby options (maybe those coffee pod fees really offset the overall price!:), and this made it easier for us to enjoy a longer stay.

Dear guest, thank you very much for your detailed review of your stay in our hotel. We are of course very pleased to read, that you felt comfortable with us and that you praise us in many areas. That you were also impressed by our staff fills us with pride and shows that our efforts are being seen by our guests! We have read your review carefully and will take your notes for improvement to our team meetings. Some points are already being worked on, such as bath amenities and their packing for example. Since according to your description, you have booked a Superior Double room, where the minibar filling is is free of charge for the day of arrival. A refill is always possible at a charge. Also the Vienna tap water is if highes qualities and can always be enjoyed at no cost. Viennese water – in a class of its own - vienna.info (wien.info) We would be delighted if you would visit us again and will then be able to show you our improvements. Kind regards, your Steigenberger Herrenhof Team

3 words: Location, location, location. It just can't get more convenient than the Steigenberger Herrenhof Hotel which is very centrally-located, literally next to all major attractions. I stayed there for a whole week and I can safely say that it will surely exceed your expectations. Having travelled in Vienna twice, in the last two years, I have no hesitation whatsoever to highly recommend this establishment for both business or leisure.

Booked a December stay in June with a popular UK Travel Agent, paid in full at the time of booking. On arrival to the hotel, as we arrived a little early I was only expecting to leave my luggage and check in later in the day. However, the man at reception went to fetch the Front Office Manager (Nikita) to speak to us. Nikita was very rude and advised there had been an IT issue and i couldn't stay at this but they had made me a booking at an alternative hotel. He was quite firm and unwavering, when I had said that this wasn't acceptable as I had booked and paid for this hotel 6 months earlier and had received booking confirmations on 2 occasions. Nikita, would not advise how far the hotel was and kept avoiding and talking over me. He kept saying there was no room and I had no choice. Having been travelling since the much earlier that morning and with the embarrassment rising as other customers were watching and also to avoid conflict, we allowed them to put us into a taxi to the alternative hotel. Although 2km away the taxi took quite sometime to get there, due to traffic and the horse and carriages in Vienna centre. I wont labour on about the alternative hotel as this is not a review for them, but will just say it was completely unacceptable and inappropriate to what I was looking for. I then rang the UK travel agent and having spent around 2 hours on the phone, they arranged for me to return to the Steigenberger the following day. On return to the Steigenberger, we checked in fine and the room was fine. However, having stayed all over the world in 5 star hotels, this one wasn't, a Good 3 star at best. The room was traditional (Which i like) and clean. The service in the bar is very slow - expect a long wait. Service at breakfast was friendly and excellent. Must say though, the hotel is in a fantastic location for the city and most of the staff warm and friendly. However, Front Office Manager did blank me again when I wished him a good morning, so the rudeness from two days earlier was still there. Must be a rude person all the time. For multiple reasons and as nice a hotel as it was I would not recommend. The negative experience at the first attempt to check in had spoilt the whole trip for me, which is a shame as Vienna is a very pretty city.

Dear guest, thank you for your review of your stay in our hotel. First of all, we would like to apologize for the overbooking situation that has arisen. Of course, we know that such mistakes should not happen, and we constantly strive to avoid this as best as possible. Unfortunately, we couldn’t prevent an overbooking situation this time, which is why we were forced to act. The hotel chosen for you is a very modern 5 star hotel in a very good location and with a nice view over Vienna city center. We therefore once more apologize for the inconveniences that have arisen and are nevertheless pleased that you were able to check in with us the following day. We are particularly pleased that you had a nice time with us and we very much hope that you will give us another chance to demonstrate our skills Yours sincerely Elisabeth Perwanger, General Manager
