We were driving through Salzburg and stayed here to visit sound of music locations. Beautiful venue, access to the palace with breakfast served in main hall. Most hotel rooms in building next door, also beautiful and comfortable rooms. Breakfast (during corona times) buffet wrapped items to prevent spread of germs, breads/croissants/eggs/coffee individually brought to tables. 30 min walk to Salzburg old town or take free bike from hotel.

I have been a Sound of Music fan since I was 5 years old. It has been a dream of mine to visit Austria and experience the Von Trapp house. And finally this year we did it. My husband, myself and our 15 year old son had the unique opportunity to stay at the wonderful Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron. We opted to stay in one of the rooms at the Meierhof rooms, which is the building just next to the actual palace. There are rooms within the Palace itself, but they tend to be pretty pricey. We stayed in room 119 (on the 1st floor) and paid 260 Euro for 2 adults and our 15 year old son for one night. The price included the room - large bedroom with 2 large beds, bathroom and closet. And unlimited access to the Palace and grounds. It also included a very large buffet breakfast the following morning which was incredible. After breakfast we used the complimentary bicycles and went for a 20 minute cycle around the lake and explored the nearby town. A definite must! For dinner I would recommend eating either at Wihr Wirt (we dined here, its a 2 minute walk from the hotel and the food was magnificent, I had the trout with almonds, my husband had the steak and my son also had the steak, or you can eat at Marccharts Thai Fisch Steak (it also came highly recommended) Everyone had a FANTASTIC stay at Leopoldskron. Also a special mention to Alma at reception. She was wonderfully warm and friendly - I really enjoyed chatting to her :-)

Fantastic location and splendour of a stately home, Austrian style. Not only the setting for much loved 60’s film but remarkable history as well. Go for a period suite in the main house, pricey but you will be in for a real treat.

We stayed here for a few days in January, the hotel is right on the lake and the place they filmed a lot of the sound of Music. The gates that open onto the lake in the film are 50 metres away from the hotel. For us this made our stay, unless you are resident you cannot get access to this area. The staff were all very friendly and helpful but one person stood out as being so friendly and knowledgeable that I want to mention her by name - Alma thank you - you were so so helpful, you could not do enough to help us, if all hotels had an Alma the world would be a better place for all travellers. I highly recommend this hotel, it is very special with a library that will take your breath away.

As part of our private Sound of Music Tour we had breakfast here. The area outside the castle was were the scene shots were taken for the lake, the patio and gazebo for Sound of Music. The interior was magic.
