I had a great stay here for 1 week. In the altstad, walking distance away from all major things to see. Hotel is very clean, staff is superfriendly, breakfast is very fresh and also a great place to have dinner. We had a comfort room which was big with 2 sofa's.

This hotel is beautifully renovated providing modern amenities with the old world charm of Austria. There are 37 rooms with 70 beds total. An elevator is available with only a few stairs to reach your room. Charming furniture and art decorate the lobby and rooms. The staff is welcoming, friendly and helpful with information and booking of tours or a taxi. Breakfast included has both made to order eggs as well as an ample cold buffet. You are on the opposite side of the river from the Salzburg fortress and shopping area but it is only a 5 minute walk to cross the river. The hotel has good local restaurants within a block of the hotel. Bakery and shops all along the street. From the main train station it is about 8 euros for a taxi to the hotel. Our room had a mini refrigerator, gorgeous marble bathroom with heated floors and very comfortable beds. Free wi fi worked very well. Upon arrival be sure to buy the Salzburg Karte which can be bought at a Tabak Trafik a block from the hotel and many other places. It can be 24, 36 or 72 hours and gets you into 35 tourist attractions for free as well as taking all the local buses for free as well. It pays for itself as soon as you begin seeing sites. The brochure in the hotel lobby shows you what is included and how much each attraction costs without using the card. Take bus 25 out to the Untersberg to take a cable car up to the top of the mountain outside Salzburg for wonderful views. This is also included in the card. The Sound of Music tour is wonderful if you love the movie, even if you don't it drives you out to Berechtesgaden and along beautiful scenery to the Mondsee which if you don't have a car is a way to see some of the countryside as well as learn about Salzburg while hearing about the movie. .Our stay at the Hotel am Markt was perfect.

We had such a lovely stay here. It’s a beautiful hotel with old historic charm located a stones throw from the river and a short distance to shops and restaurants. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Our room was lovely. We didn’t have an opportunity to eat dinner in the restaurant during our short stay but we did enjoy the breakfast very much. I would choose to stay here again!

This hotel is literally hewn into the rock of the hill supporting the Cappuchin Monastery overlooking Salzburg. Look no further than the solid rock right protruding from the wall behind the front desk in the lobby. Everything about this place is solid: comfortable, quiet guest rooms with updated bathrooms, excellent full breakfast included in the room rate (see photo), a farm-to table restaurant featuring beef from the owner’s own farm, and a cute little bar in the front lobby that is staffed by friendly hosts (special compliments to Christian, who opened the bar just for our family). We loved it here—our favorite hotel on a trip to Switzerland, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. Free parking is at a nearby garage (also hewn into the rock) and the multilingual front desk staff is helpful and efficient. Plus it is conveniently located within easy walking distance of all of Salzburg’s major attractions. Would definitely stay here again!
