Once again, the Hotel Schloss Monchstein exceeded our expectations! This by far is one of my favorite hotels in the world! They made my husband‘s 50th birthday so special. The property is breathtaking and the service goes above and beyond! Amazing breakfast and wonderful rooms. I had a fantastic massage! The breakfast is incredible. It’s the little touches, though, that really mean so much. The chocolates and sweet notes, the fruit in our rooms, the welcome glass of champagne and all the smiling faces, that are so very thoughtful! It’s truly heaven on earth!

When we booked this for our anniversary trip, we knew it would be a great spot in Salzburg but we weren't ready for the level of personal service and care the staff took to make sure our time was more than special. From the checking process, to the room setup, to the food, and help with directions they made us feel like we were the only guests. The staff was not stuffy but friendly and aways remembered our names. You definitely get what you paid for and more at this property.

A fantastic hotel, in a stunning location with amazing views and very welcoming staff. The historic centre of Salzburg is only minutes away, and no car is necessary. We had a luxurious room with which we could find no fault. The scenery is absolutely beautiful, with mountains, hills and rivers, and so much history to enjoy. The lovely staff gave us a delicious packed breakfast, when we left for our journey home. The staff were wonderful and ensured we had a 5* holiday in beautiful Salzburg.

Hotel location on top of mountain with great views yet it is just an elevator(lift) ride to downtown. Our room was well appointed with nice patio. Diner in The Glass Garden was perfect, food, wine, service and views. Very nice breakfast room and terrace. Excellent staff, very gracious and helpful.

Pretty much everything about this place was fabulous and luxurious. All the staff were incredibly pleasant and helpful. The breakfast buffet with its view was amazing, and the infinity pool and hot tub were also very enjoyable. Housekeeping went above and beyond keeping our room cleaned up. I think the only downside to mention is that the walk to the lift to get down to the city of Salzburg was a bit longer than we had thought, although still only about 10 minutes, and it was a pleasant stroll.

We never experienced such a warm and personal hospitality as in this hotel. The food and facilities were exceptional as well. The hotel is located on a hill bordering Salzburg, between the trees, with lots of birds. And an elevator takes you right into the old town. So truly fabulous!

My husband and I spent 4 nights at Hotel Schloss Monchstein. We were in a junior suite, located in the newer section of the hotel below the Glass Garden restaurant. The suite was nice, and was just as it appeared on the hotel’s website. Overall, staff we interacted with were pleasant and helpful with a few shortcomings. The hallmark of a five star property is attention to detail, and this is where the hotel falls short. We were greeted with champagne upon arrival which was lovely. Our room was as expected but incredibly stuffy. After returning from dinner in the hotel’s Glass Garden restaurant, we could not adjust the thermostat. I called the front desk and a gentleman came down to assist. He was unable to adjust the thermostat either, so suggested we sleep with the door to the terrace open. We did crack the door, but note that there was no way to lock the screen door to the outside. It was a very uncomfortable night. When we left to explore the area the next morning, the manager (?) assured us it would be repaired while we were gone for the day. There was no apology offered for the uncomfortable night (€800 for a room with no air circulation?!). When we returned in the afternoon, I asked if it had been repaired and was told that, since they could not get the system to work properly, they just turned off the furnace in our room. Again, no apology and not as much as a “please have a cocktail on us” from the manager, The second issue we had was being given inaccurate information from the same manager. We returned from a day in the village with several shopping bags. She proceeded to tell us how we should take our receipts to a VAT interchange location within the city in order to get a refund of the tax. This seemed odd to me, since I have always applied for VAT at the airport but we trusted her information, especially when she was so confident and provided us with the location and directions. We took a taxi to the location one morning (across the River), only to be told that we needed to get our refund at the airport! Just a waste of time and money for us to be sent out there—and the information was volunteered to us, as we had not asked about the VAT refund. Other minor inconveniences during out stay included the room not being serviced properly: bathrobes were taken but not replaced, trash bins were not always emptied, and water in the mini bar was not replaced. The bed was never fully made up with a coverlet after we arrived. I ordered eggs “Monchstein” at breakfast one morning and instead of including onions, as described on the menu, they were prepared with mushrooms. Not a huge problem for most people but I detest mushrooms and again, it speaks to the lack of attention to detail. Overall, staff were kind and we enjoyed cocktails and meals other than breakfast. A local couple shared that the hotel has changed ownership 3 times recently and this may likely explain the lack of consistency. The hotel is up on a hill and a short walk to town. We did not mind this (and used the nearby MoMA lift several times with passes provided by the hotel), but the location is likely not ideal for those who are not fit or are traveling with small children.

Dear Mrs. “LeeAnn H”! We appreciate the time you took to comment on your experience at our hotel. We sincerely apologize that we were not able to fulfil your expectations. The weather this spring has been very erratic as temperatures changed very suddenly. As some guests prefer to sleep in a colder room (which we completely understand) it takes some time for the room to cool down from our standard-set temperature of 23 degrees Celsius. For this reason our team suggested to open the terrace door. We are really sorry that you felt uncomfortable and have not been helped with in a satisfactory manner. Addressing the tax free information, we would like to forward the following link as given to you by our team during your stay at the hotel: https://www.salzburg.info/en/travel-info/infos/tax-free-shopping_az_11344 Taking your comments very seriously we will do our utmost to avoid such occurrences again. We pride ourselves in delivering top quality service to our guests and are incredibly sorry that we fell short of the high standards we have set ourselves this time. Thank you very much for highlighting our helpful and pleasant team members. We wish you safe travels and all the best! Kind regards, Samantha Teufel & your Mönchstein Team

Nine years ago my family spent a memorable vacation in Europe. One of our favorite stops was the city of Salzburg, Austria and a stay at the Hotel Schloss Monchstein. Our stay was everything you can imagine a castle, nestled on a mountain top above the city center could be. Our 2 rooms were spacious and complete with large, luxurious bathrooms, tall ceilings and beautiful decor. The staff was gracious, helpful and made us feel welcomed with a glass of champagne upon checking in. Although the pool was freezing cold (even for summer time), my son & I braved the temperatures and enjoyed a refreshing swim. The morning breakfasts were always a treat before we made our way down to the city. We will definitely stay here the next time we visit.

Located on the hill above Salzburg's old town, the hotel offers an unparalleled experience. You'll start your stay, and perhaps end the night, in the Apollo Bar, with it's glass and steel ceiling structure, enjoying a refreshment. Similarly, the Glass Garden restaurant offers stunning views and exceptional cuisine. Rooms are top notch, offering plenty of space and every amenity. The ability to use the elevator at the nearby museum (a 5 minute walk through the park) makes getting to and from the old town very simple. Although, the walk up and down the winding roads of the hill offers great views and some exercise. Staff are the epitome of professionalism. We greatly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the Schloss Monchstein to anyone looking for a unique and world-class hotel in Salzburg.

Everything about this hotel is exceptional. The location is superb perched on a hill above Salzburg with easy access to the old city through the Museum of Modern Art Lifts. The rooms are modern clean & chic with our own patio. The reception staff led by Susan are so helpful and courteous. A huge thank you to Wolfie and Serhat for their professionalism at the bar and for putting up with us with great cheer for an entire week.
