People and places get old. That's life. If you want the Ritz - wrong place. If you're interested in life, try it. Norman Johnston was schooled on a bursary in Edinburgh because his father was killed in the War. He has lived seven lives in one. Take the time to listen and adjust your expectations to the pace of the... More

Was working in the area and couldn't get booked in anywhere for the 2 nights. I had read the reviews and was prepared for not a great place. I didn't have a vehicle, so it was handy to get to by foot. Let me just say firstly, I was staying here as I was working in the area, so it... More

We loved the look of this magisterial building with it's walled garden and lovely location, so when the need arose for somewhere to stay in Lochmaddy, we tried here. Alarm bells should have started to ring when it became apparent that the whole of Lochmaddy was full except here. The stairs to our room reeked of damp and the wall-paper... More

We had a small room (£38 each - cheap compared to Skye) looking over the river towards the town, a pleasant view on a sunny evening. The welcome was warm and the tea and coffee facilities well augmented by biscuits. Unfortunately some less considerate guest seemed to have maxed the monthly wi-fi (and this was only the 13th) and that... More

stayed one night Pros: great historical building, rooms cozy, warm, beds comfy, breakfast to order with best poached eggs I had in the two weeks in Scotland/Outer Hebrides, bathrooms en suite, very quiet location. Cons: Owners are a nice elderly couple but also seem a bit tired, b&b with five rooms and our bathroom was not thouroughly clean (hairs in... More

I was apprehensive after reading some of the previous comments when booking this B&B, however I was pleased with my stay there on October 1. I was greeted warmly by the hostess Mrs. Johnson, and she provided me with tea and biscuits. There are four guest rooms, and I had a comfortable single bed, with a clean en suite washroom.... More

I was warmly welcomed by Mr & Mrs Johnson and spent two comfortable nights here and slept really well. There was a huge choice for breakfast and it was terrific. When I asked if I could have an early breakfast on the second morning, they were very obliging and said that would be fine. Mr Johnson has an interesting background... More

Arrived after a 40 mile cycle into 30 mph headwinds, and the warm and helpful welcome from Mr Johnston, with a cup of tea and biscuits was just what was needed. I really liked the traditional building and lovely Ercol furniture. The bed was the comfiest of our trip so far, and most welcome after a day in the saddle.... More

Given the earlier reviews we were worried about what we'd find, but we'd needn't have worried. There were 5 of us cycling and the welcome and care from Mr and Mrs Johnson was first class. The place has an old charm and it is quite traditional, but none the worse for that. Everyone thought it was great and would happily... More
