This is a lovely hotel, well situated for lots of great walks. Food is delicious and the portions enormous. It’s a great place to stay. The rooms at the front have a wonderful view of the mountains. Whatever the weather you can enjoy coffee on the terrace. Would love to come back in the ski season.

As a party of 3 on a one week ski holiday we struggled to find a reasonably priced single occupancy room for one of our group. We have stayed in Soldeu many times although never at The Maistre. Having read previous reviews we didn’t have great expectations and also given the price we paid as part of a Crystal package this was probably best. I will highlight key points needed from a ski holiday; Location: absolutely fine to walk to the gondola although down a steep hill which is worth being mindful of if staying here and if walking in ski boots will cause you issues. Lockers: did not use the hotel lockers available as they were going to charge €24 and we could not fit all 3 lots of equipment in them! Not happy to have to pay for lockers at the hotel as many other hotels in Soldeu offer this for free! We ended up with a large locker at the gondola for all three of us at a cost of €50. Food: quality was good and choice ok, suited our tastes but one night when rabbit and fish were the only meat options I went vegetarian! An 8pm evening meal service was a little problematic on occasion but we got by. The drinks prices are fantastic and a decent bottle of wine could be had with dinner for under €10. Just worth noting though this cannot be added to the room and had to be paid cash at the time. One of the best things though is that the restaurant opens for breakfast no matter your departure time and this was appreciated at 6 in the morning. Beats a token gesture packed lunch. Room: double was small and single occupancy room very small with only a skylight window. This was the biggest disappointment of our stay. Most things are covered by other reviews already. No ski coat etc hanging hooks, only one plug socket in room (bought a multi-way from local supermarket to get through the week) safe is not free and was not told about deposits and charges at check in - it also doesn’t open properly as the door hits inside of wardrobe ledge! Shower heads in both rooms our group used fell down and made showering very tricky! Bed was comfy enough to get a good nights sleep though. Being woken by the cockerel out the back meant no alarm necessary! But gets you out on the slopes early I suppose. We were happy with the price we paid and enjoyed our week nonetheless given the points that seem negative above. The hotel has a small feel and we got to know other guests because of this which was nice.

I stayed here last week, the staff are very helpful and friendly, there is good choice of food except for Veggies which is common in Andorra though I think if asked the kitchen would come up with something. The lockers are in fact 2 Euros per day and although the locker room was heated last year there was no heating on this year. The rooms are warm and comfortable though a bit on the small size there is also a lack of hanging space and electric points. I had a twin room to my self so was OK but it would have been a bit cramped sharing with someone. All in all I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

Hotel all in all was great! We were a large group (and a very loud group) and they accommodated us the entire week! I would return as it was cheap and in a good location! There are a few things that could be improved (which I think most people have already said)! There needs to be more sockets in the room- we used the one in the bathroom all week! The shower head needs to be improved as it constantly drops! I believe the lockers should be included with the price of the stay and the walls were paper thin (you could hear everything). The food was great however I thought that it was a bit too late! It should maybe start around 7! 8 o’clock is a long time to wait from lunch, especially with kids! The seats around the reception could also do with a little updating. Staff however are lovely. P.s the tubing is not really worth it :)

Good points: warm, cosy, plentiful food with no wait, very close to ski lifts, friendly staff, lots of hot water Bad points: need more hooks and plug sockets in rooms, which are small. WiFi very iffy. Vegetarian food lacking (pescatarians can manage tho), you have to pay €24 to store skis and boots in tiny locker, which seems the norm for Soldeu but ski/boot room has always been free in other countries I’ve been to. The resort is decent for snowboarding, but we had poor snow, so we’re stuck to the pistes which are rather similar. Also some slow old chair lifts. People are very friendly and the between piste powder options looked fab if there had been any powder. This was a cheap option for us which I don’t regret, but I’d only go again on a last minute if I saw there was a new dump of snow.
