Old hotel.. too old! Nothing has been done since 1932 .. There was a locked door in our room .. it was into the next neighbour .. so everything can be heard through it.. Under the bed was some old food. Semi-cold water in the bath. We payed for “Mountain View” .. We looked straight into some trees.. too bad, because the balcony was actually very nice. The staff was friendly.
We were up in the Troodos and decided to stay at The Forest Park. My friends had been here many times before and said they were always made to feel welcome. Upon arrival, at reception we were greeted warmly by one of the owners and invited to the staff party that evening in celebration of the New Year. Wow! Our rooms were spacious and the beds huge. The scenery spectacular. The party (food and drink complimentary) was lovely. Such a joy to see an establishment thank their staff and reward quite a number of them with luxury weekend away and vouchers etc. It all just felt really nice. I cannot wait to go back.
We decided to go for a winter's night sleepover to platres. Although the hotel is old, for a fully booked place, it's been well looked after. The staff where great and breakfast buffet was more then sufficeint. In the evening to decided to chill in the lounge bar area and was listing to some chill out live greek music. We also met the owner of the hotel and had a very interesting chat with him, as he collects Vintaqe Vehicles satrting from 1936 and was a ex rally driver.
Although we stayed only 1 night we had an excellent time. The rooms are okay, breakfasts are lavish, and the place around the hotel is picturesque. There is a lot of art in the screens in the corridors, And games for children and adults. Beware, at weekends people are coming in in droves!
We booked a family room for one nights stay. Arrived at 3:15 only to be told that our room was not ready, even though the booking confirmations stated check-in time 2pm. We waited around the lobby, with a hungry and tired 5 year old, and only after requesting from the reception to hurry up, we finally checked in at 4pm. The hotel advertised Happy hour from 5-6 with cocktails at half price. We arrived at the bar at 5, only to be told that we had to wait for someone to take our order from our table. We sat around till 5:45 and when I approached the bar to order, the staff were insisting we take a seat and they would get to us. I reminded them of the happy hour, and that we were already waiting for 45 minutes, so they were kind enough to let me order. I also requested that our next drink, which would be ordered at 6, should be included in the offer as it was not our fault we were waiting 45 minutes to be served. Ordered a pina colada....it arrived and it was orange! No milk, nothing. I sent the drink back and requested a decent pina colada. needless to say, I was not given the happy hour discount! So after our Not So Happy Hour, we returned for diner. We were charged 18EURO for each adult and 9EURO for kids- food was over-priced. We were charged overall 46.60 including a bottle of water. In the evening, at around 1:30 am, I went out on the balcony only to realize that the door would not shut. Actually it was very heavy and when trying to close it the window got separated from the aluminum, and the balcony door remained about an inch open ALL NIGHT!!!! Heating was provided via air condition units, even though there was central heating units in the room and it was not adequate, keeping in mind the open window! This was on the 5th floor in room 508. Our child had to sleep on the main bed, so that he wouldn't freeze. Worth mentioning it was -3 deg Celsius that night! Next day, we goto reception to check-out, only to find that we were charged twice for the same diner the night before. We pointed it out to the lady, and only after she had to check our receipts did she agree to remove the extra charge. However, instead of refunding 46.60 as was the amount of the extra charge, she refunded only the 45! At that point we got frustrated, paid and left. Upon returning home though, I noticed that not only were we wrongly charged for the water, but there were charges of 7.10 for example that were not accounted for. So I called to speak to the manager- Mr Antonis Liatsos. Very polite and understanding dude, with no hospitality or marketing skills what-so-ever!!!! His only response was that I should have informed somebody at 1.30 in the morning about the window, and that the staff working at the happy hour are very efficient ?!? I mentioned that no matter how efficient the 2 members of staff were, they could not cater for 2 rooms full of families and that they should have had more people working. He did not respond, except to say that next time we visit we should let him know and he shall make sure we are catered for better. ?!@?#$"@?$: Overall, I was disappointed with our stay, and even more disappointed with the managers response.…
