The private transfer from the airport took roughly 20 minutes and the greeting we received from the reception staff was pleasant and well-organised. Our bags were brought to our room (3006 with a view of the Royal Pool and to the far left the sea), and everything was taken care of. We were surprised by the ‘plushness’, but really happy to be having a week away from home in such a quality hotel (excellent value for money in our opinion).
In the evening the turndown service was a nice touch, with bottled water on either side of the beds, slippers, and fresh towels. The air conditioning was a quiet as it could be, and much needed at night when temperatures in July were still 28 at dark.
Foodwise, being in mind we needed to cater for a plant-based diet, the Hotel Elysium could not have been more helpful. This hotel caters well for vegans. Not only are there buffet options, but moreover, a dedicated ala carte menu to choose from – if preferred. Head waiters are knowledgeable about the plant-based options. At breakfast this included vegan sausages, vegan butter, and yogurt, vegan croissants, porridge made with oat milk etc. Non-vegans were plentiful with a full variety of options – all well presented at the buffet. Evening meals for vegans were also excellent, with both choice and quality. Vegan options were available in the two specialty restaurants we visited within the hotel (Bacco – the Italian, and O’Shin – the pan Asian).
During our stay we used the Spa, Gym, and, of course, the swimming pools. Although not large, the gym was well equipped and had a Studio next door (we went to one excellent Yoga class). The outdoor pools aren’t deep and were warm given the hot weather, however, they were clean and beautifully landscaped within the tidy terraces and gardens. In fact, all outdoor areas were thoughtfully landscaped and a pleasure to walk around during the day and evening. We used the ‘swim up’ bar every day. Drinks are expensive, but then they would be at a hotel of this standard.
On one day we rented the hotel bikes (10 Euros each per 24 hours) and cycled to the harbour. The bikes were perfect, and helmets can be provided free of charge.
The hotel fronts a small beach area with a raised terrace providing for the sunbeds.
The beach area is understood to be ‘man-made’ and the water is reasonably clear. A breakway provides some relief from the waves. The jetty projecting into the sea is great fun to jump off – something we did every day!
Overall the Elysium exceeded our expectations.

The staff are a real credit to this hotel, they couldn't do any more for you.
The room was so spacious (we booked a Deluxe Sea view) and even had a desk with vanity unit and fab hairdryer(not like the usual standard hotel room dryers) so no need to take your own.
We ate at the buffet (they do a different theme every night which resets weekly), O'Shin (pan asian), Medditeraneo, Pool bar and had room service and didn't have one bad thing to say about the food. In fact, we were blown away with how delicious it was and how much choice there was. The breakfast was amazing - especially the egg station where you could have omelets, poached or fried eggs on request and the food was always fresh. The staff even bring you food and drinks to your sunbed or if you prefer you can use the swim up bar!
We didn't struggle at all to get sunbeds but we weren't fussed on where we sat. There are so many beds that there's always a spot to choose from and the staff will help you move parasols to suit your needs. Whilst the hotel was full, it never felt overcrowded.
We tried various pillows from the pillow menu, which is such a lovely touch as you can get a pillow most like your one at home. The bed was huge and so comfortable.
The maid service was incredible, you'd get multiple towel changes daily and the bedding changed every couple of days as well as turn down service with a bottle of water on your bedside every night. The bathroom had ESPA toiletries. They even made our bed up with rose petals and had chocolates and prosecco waiting for us as we were celebrating for our honeymoon.
The only negatives we can think of is that the pool bar water cost a fortune - it's much better to purchase the 6 for 6euro bottles which get sent to your room. The second negative was the aircon didn't seem to do so well in the room unless you stood near it and during the night we both got hot but it's hardly surprising when its 38degrees outside and both of us are always on the warm side so it could have just been us.
There isn't a single staff member who isn't a credit to the hotel, they all go out of their way to say hello and ensure you are having the time of your life - no simple detail is left untouched and anything you need they will help with. Special mentions from us of those who's names we managed to get for the excellent knowledge, advice and laughter go to:
Mario, Yiannis (Medditeraneo) Daniella, Rachel, Tanya, Mike, Andreas (O'shin)
Staff members even came out of their way to say goodbye to us on our departure. You feel as though you're with friends.
Thank you the Elysium - we will see you again!!
There are great views of the sea and paths running from the hotel right along the sea front so we went for relaxing walks in the evenings.
Despite all the positives, there are some areas that could be improved. For example, there was a talented violinist, saxophonist and singer on different nights, but still we felt the entertainment was a bit flat-I know it was April, but we thought there would be more going on. The family room we had was great in terms of facilities: it had everything you would expect from a 5-star hotel, such as fabulous ESPA toiletries, two bathrooms, robes and slippers, etc. However, the view was extremely disappointing. We asked for a garden view and we were told we might not get one, but what we did get was not what I expected from a five-star hotel: a tiny terrace overlooking a path and large fence. Also, due to the size and shape of the room, one of our daughters' beds was placed right in front of the terrace doors, so to open them and gain access into the terrace, you had to climb over the bed. We knew in advance that the double bed for us parents/adults was situated upstairs on a mezzanine floor but didn't consider the stairs to access it would be wooden, which meant it was quite noisy when climbing up and down and meant we could hear guests next door going up and down their stairs. Also, the bed on the mezzanine floor is so big that in order to access one side of it, you had to climb over the bed! It also meant there wasn't much floor space, so you couldn't even open the suitcase fully to get your clothes out. Finally, there was no light fitting in the shower in the mezzanine bathroom, making it quite dark.
With all that in mind, it was a great hotel and we were all reluctant to leave. Would love to stay again.
The manager let us keep some rooms late as recompense.
However, we did think that overall the hotel was not really five star.
There is a ridiculous 'cheap' towel policy whereby one had to hand in blue card when collecting towels and collect card when returning the towels! There were lots of beach attendants, they should put out the towels NOT the guests as per five star hotels generally.
There was no water given at the pool. It had to be bought. This should be standard in a five star hotel.
Lunch at the pool bar was very very basic. Only other option was the Mediterranean restaurant, there was nothing in between. Lovely frontage, there should be a restaurant there catering for light lunches.
The decor was very tired. Very 1980's. Bedrooms were also very tired. Old fashioned shower and decor.
Food presentation at the buffets and breakfast was dire. We have visited many many hotels and their displays are beautiful. The bowls of food were just plonked
on the tables.
The Epicurean inside restaurant had a deceptive photo on the hotel website. It looked super glamorous, but in reality it resembled a bare banqueting suite with an old fashioned stufyf feel.
The Bacco restaurant was the saving grace and was the only one with a 'five star feel'!
We have been to some amazing five star hotels, this hotel really felt 3 star.
One of our family rooms had raw sewage from a burst pipe in their bathroom on the last day which was vile for them.
However, the staff in the restaurants were amazing, as were the room cleaning staff.

The room was immaculately serviced, with regular towel and linen changes every three days; the service staff were friendly and helpful. There was a well-stocked bar and a variety of teas and instant coffee with a kettle.
The dining facilities were excellent. On the first night we ate at Bacca where the headwaiter engaged with us in lively and interesting conversation. The meal choices were good and the quality of the food and service, excellent.
Breakfasts for the next 10 days were sumptuous with a huge choice of fruit, salads, meats, cooked breakfast, cheese, bread, and jams and syrups. We were greeted and served by smiling, hospitable staff. There was fresh orange juice and a variety of fresh juices to order. Similarly many varieties of teas and coffee were available to order. Eggs of all varieties were cooked freshly to order, always by friendly helpful, smiling staff.
The indoor gym and swimming pool were clean, had good ambience and helpful staff. Clean towels and water were supplied as needed.
The lounge and available restaurants were comfortable and the service as with all else, uniformly excellent.
The outside terraces, poolside areas and lawns were clean and well kept so we were able to lie on the sunbeds at our leisure, although the weather was too cold for us to use the outdoor swimming pools.
The general ambience and decor of the hotel was elegant, comfortable and conducive to a restful holiday.
Whatever help we required, whether for a restaurant suggestion, a map to discover the winery routes or help finding a pharmacy, the staff always helped willingly to solve the problem.
When we became ill, the staff phoned to check on our welfare, helped to organise in-room meals, offered to send a taxi to fetch medicines (which we did not require).
We generally avoid staying in hotels; however after a stressful year we decided to treat ourselves to a luxury hotel where we could just rest and enjoy ourselves. We could not have chosen better than the Elysium. We have decided that should we have the opportunity, we shall return there in the future.
Thank you to all the friendly, wonderful staff, in all areas of the hotel, for making us so welcome.

I would have felt better entering breakfast each morning with a defensive sports kit, such was the clamour. It's unusual to find staff cutting in front of you at a five star hotel. The offering for breakfast was well below the standard I was expecting also.
We had understood that there was a children's club but we were neither approached by nor saw anyone poolside inviting children to take part in anything.
There was a 'games room' consisting of one pool table which took your money but never produced balls, one fusball table and air hockey table which I enjoyed, two video games, one of which was broken and one allowed you roughly 10 seconds of play for €1 and two claw games. Every item required cash. The room is not air conditioned so very hard to stay there for more than ten minutes in peak season. We informed reception that the pool table took our money but did not have all the balls (no white) but again, no apology or offer to reimburse.
All pools, indoor and outdoor close at 6 for kids, which is just about the time the heat becomes bearable.
Do not ask reception for car hire info, use Simila rental and you miss an excess of £800 along with higher rental charges.
We stayed in a Royal Cypriot Maisonette and it was a tight squeeze for two adults and two children.
The cocktails are watery, suitable for an all inclusive but we had chosen breakfast only and objected to the prices for the product provided.
Upside: I loved the cats; the beach, though untidy was cool and they could do much more with it if they wanted; location is good ; TV gives good options, especially Netflix; we can't praise the air-con enough - where it was good, it was a godsend.

We had a suite - great view of the sea, 2 flat screens, a very well-stocked mini bar and coffee machine and kettle are part of the 5* standard.
The breakfast is appropriate for the hotel, but under certain circumstances - especially if you are staying by the sea - the selection for breakfast with fish specialties could be a bit more extensive.
The reviews of the Epicurian evening restaurant are mixed - the buffet was really very good, the menu left a lot to be desired - there is a lack of a uniform cuisine line here.
The two - much smaller restaurants Bacco and O`Shin serve excellent Italian and Asian delicacies.
The bar's service is very good both during the day and in the evening. There are drawbacks when it comes to swimming in the sea, which we didn't use - there is only a small "beach" area and a jetty with a swimming ladder - it can get tight in high season, the public beach promenade also goes past the beach.
The spa area is definitely not worthy of a 5* hotel - an indoor pool that is too small (adults only from 7am - 10am and from 6pm - 8pm!) is clearly not of a high standard (especially since dinner starts at 7pm)
The sauna is also much too small and can only be used with swimwear(!).
There is no nudist sauna for men and women, and for a hotel of this size a mixed sauna might be quite appropriate.
The golf package, on the other hand, is very good for golfers.
Nevertheless - all in all an excellent choice and recommendation!

From arrival you are warmly greeted by the Elysium team, instantly relaxing in to holiday mode. We look forward to seeing so many familiar faces, which really shows the quality of superb hospitality retaining staff for so many years.
Nothing is too much and it’s the small things such as remembering your favourite drinks or checking in to see if you would like anything else that really makes the difference. Thank you to everyone that helps to make the Elysium the incredible hotel it is.
A special mention for Marina who again looked after us so well in the restaurant and David who is always busy keeping everyone hydrated whilst relaxing by the pool. We would also like to wish Marios a happy retirement, from Cypriot night dancing to omelette’s we will definitely remember him fondly.
All areas of the hotel are kept to a high standard. The housekeeping team work their magic each day in your room with bottled water left beside your bed at turndown.
As a family we enjoy staying half board. The breakfast buffet is the best we have ever experienced and the new pastries this year were divine. The themed buffet nights are such a high quality and full of so many choices it is hard to eat elsewhere. We enjoyed lunch in the Mediterraneo, be prepared for generous portions. The small plates are ideal for a lunch to share. The Ristorante Bacco is a lovely setting for a special meal, make sure to leave room for the signature Tiramisu!
The only downside of a holiday at the Elysium is having to say goodbye at the end of your stay.
