Another wonderful day spent with Tasos and Sara. A full morning foraging for edible plants on a beautiful nature walk. Foraging in Cyprus is something that was done in the olden days but recently it has gained a new spark as the new generations turn towards healthier eating. And this is the place to learn this new experience! Adults and children (aged 3! to 11) thoroughly enjoyed the adventure crossing over streams, listening to the insects, catching frogs and learning which plants we could collect. Everything is done carefully and with respect to nature, never over-collecting in order to allow plants to regrow every year. Afterwards we all helped to prepare the ingredients we picked to make a beautiful soup and omellete and salads decorated with edible flowers. A truly wonderfully relaxing experience! And we also had the pleasure of eating the delicious home-made halloumi of Mrs Maroulla!

We were staying in Nicosia and came to Aperanti Agrotourism for a cheese-making workshop. Booking with Sara was super easy, and she gave us helpful directions for the bus (about 35 min by bus from central Nicosia). It was unusually cold in Nicosia when we were there, and Sara was nice enough to make us some tea when we arrived. The cheese-making workshop with Sara's partner's mother was FANTASTIC! She is Cypriot but went to a British school, so the workshop was entirely in English. She taught us how to make halloumi and anari (similar to ricotta). We learned every step of how halloumi and anari were made, and then we ate them. Sara served us both cheeses, lovely homemade bread; their own olive oil, jam, honey, and carob syrup; orange juice from their oranges (she offered us wine but the orange juice was SO good); and a salad with greens and tomatoes from their garden. We had such a lovely few hours talking to Sara and her partner's mother, learning about cheese, and eating. When it was time to go, Sara was very kind and gave us a ride to the bus stop (otherwise there's a shuttle bus). I highly recommend this cheese making workshop near Nicosia: great value (€35/person, including our meal) and great fun!

Dear girls, Thank you so much for visiting our agrotourism and learning with us about halloumi cheese making! We are glad you enjoyed the experience and our products...despite the unusually cold weather (for Cypriot standard)! It was our pleasure meeting you both and we wish you all the best with all your future trips and adventure! We hope to seeing you again one day...maybe for a longer stay in Cyprus. All the best, Sara & Maroulla

We had such a lovely time at Aperanti. The hosts are friendly and very helpful. Be sure to try some of the home made jam, it's delicious. The house is really cosy and the surroundings are worth visiting, both the village of Pera, as well as the path to the Tamasos dam and the nearby canyon. If you want to have a nice break from the busy rhythm of life, this is one of the best places to stay.

Dear SorinBasca Thank you so much for your positive review. We are glad that you had a nice stay at Aperanti and enjoyed our village and its surroundings. Indeed there are many beautiful natural places that can be discovered in our area, that are not in the travel guide books as we are not in a touristic area. We are glad to host people like you that decide to travel off the beaten track to discover the real Cyprus :) All the best, Sara and Tassos

Lovely, comfortable room in an updated stone house. We parked in front of the property and enjoyed walking around the village. Sara and Tassos are delightful hosts and gave us a memorable meal of local Cypriot dishes, with an Italian twist.

This was what we were looking for, genuine local hospitality and food in quaint Cypriot village. We absolutely loved our stay here. Pera is a hidden gem, easily accessible from major towns, but so close to the mountains and the many places to explore. You could stay here for weeks (some do!), there is so much to see and do. Gorgeous villages, interesting history, and nature trails. The highlight though has to be a Sara, Tassos and parents. How lucky to experience genuine Cypriot hospitality, traditions and cooking, plus Italian! We arrived as guests but left feeling a bit like family. The accommodation is simplicity itself, very clean and comfortable and very peaceful and relaxed. We loved our stay and experiences, sad to leave. Highly recommend.
