Detailed Reviews
I really wanted to like The White Pearl, the location on the harbour is wonderful and the staff are extremely friendly and try their best but the bedrooms are really just too run down to enjoy, apart from the balconies overlooking the harbour which were the highlight of our stay and really the only reason we booked this hotel.
I knew what to expect having read other reviews. We paid 60 euros in Feb and booked a double bed over the phone. When we arrived they only had a twin so they tried to push the 2 beds together but of course the sheets and blankets didn't fit. It was 2C overnight and despite everyone having a go to fix it the reverse air con didn't work so they brought us an old electric fire which helped a bit.
The wifi didn't work in our room.
Just don't look too closely at the floor etc in the bathroom is my advice! Superficially everything was clean, including sheets and towels but the rooms badly need renovating to be enjoyable. Everytime we turned on the basin taps we got a shower, no matter how careful we were.
We made the huge mistake of not turning the electric water heater off overnight (room 26) and the bangings and gurglings woke us up at least 5 times, we only worked out what it was in the morning!
There was a minibar with welcome cold beers and breakfast was good with eggs, cheese and meat.
We won't return which is a real shame.

View to die for but rooms very tired and dated and not very clean mold on shower
Staff pleasant and breakfast was a typical Turkish breakfast. We went in April and the roof top restaurant and bar where not open so can not comment on these.

My wife, myself, our young daughter (10 months) and my sister stayed here for a night recently. Having been on a day trip to Kyrenia before, I had seen this hotel and commented on what a great location it had, right on the old harbour front, of in my opinion, the prettiest place in the whole of Cyprus. When my sister visited us (we live in the South of Cyprus) we decided to book a room.
I booked via email and received a prompt reply confirming our stay. Checking in was quick and simple and the staff were very welcoming (it is family run). The rooms were simple, with a TV and minibar, firm bed and a very small bathroom, but clean with spectacular views (book a full harbour view room). Room size was ok, our baby has just started crawling everywhere so maybe a little more room would have been nice).
As we were out of season, the rooftop bar was closed but again it would have been a brilliant place to relax with the views.
Breakfast was simple, more European continental, cold meats/cheeses/olives etc as well as eggs cooked to order, toast and coffee. Not a massive choice but ok for us.
The only minor concern would be the noise from the bars/restaurants that are situated along the old harbour in front of the hotel. In the summer it may be pretty noisy!
I would certainly recommend staying here, in fact we have booked another 2 nights for mid March as my parents are visiting.

We booked two nights and only stayed one. In your room, you will hear every note of live music from the rooftop bar as well as the electric guitar and musician from the street below. On a Saturday night, this went on until about 1:30 a.m. We politely explained to the hotel that we were cutting our visit short, but they refused any refund at all (and they were nowhere near full so we hadn't kept them from booking someone else). Only stay here if you are a night owl and VERY loud music doesn't bother you.

Sleeping above the nightlife is certainly uncomfortable due to the noise but the choice was made for the beautiful view.
The problems of the hotel are many, except for the very kind staff, the rooms are poorly maintained, should be maintained including the really not welcoming bathrooms.
Breakfast below expectations

The town of Kyrenia was a pearl in itself, and I can't think of a better place to enjoy the beauty of the old harbour than this hotel.
Perfect location, clean and large rooms with a minibar, free wifi and international tv-channels, comfortable beds and good breakfast. Highly recommended.

We stayed at This pearl for 13 nights during Sept/Oct 2011. We know and love Kyrenia but this was our first stay at The pearl and it was great. The room was always kept spotlessly clean, the linen and towels always fresh. Breakfast was freshly prepared and plentifull. The view from our room was magnificent and we spent many hours on the balcony people watching. The manager and staff were a pleasure and always prepared to help in any way. We will be returning.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay. Booking was managed very well with a lovely harbour view from our little perfect balcony. The room was as advertised, plenty of hot water and clean. Small bathroom but we expected that as we could see it was on older style pension/hotel. We had booked a double room which was two beds pushed together. Note to the owner to purchase some mattress toppers so you dont end up with the beds opening up, meaning you both end up on one side of the bed with a small quilt pulling it backwards and forwards as one you turns over. Towels were clean and fine but the bed linen needs some improvements. Heating worked fine if you are looking to go during the winter. Breakfast adequate and plentiful for a good start to the day. We loved the location and being in the centre of things. Would recommend as long as you know its simple no frills experience - which we did. Thanks to the staff for looking after us.

I stay in many hotels all over the world and almost never give a 1 star. I needed a hotel for just one night at the end of an organized trip where we stayed elsewhere and chose the White Pearl after visiting them a couple of days beforehand. I talked with the receptionist, saw an example room and agreed a price of 55 Euros which was not cheap for Northern Cyprus but seemed reasonable for a waterfront hotel. All should have been good but unfortunately it was not. Firstly, one of the attractions had been that the hotel was run by Indians and there was a roof top Indian restaurant and bar. When I arrived while a sign outside still proclaimed the rooftop amenities but I was disappointed to find that they were closed on Sunday which had not been mentioned when I made the reservation and talked about looking forward to an Indian meal.
The room was small but neat and apparently in good repair. There was no kettle but there was a minibar fridge with some contents. The bathroom was very small - but I had seen this previously and thought I knew what was being provided. What wasn't clear was that this did not include hot water that night or the next morning but more of that later. There was a nice little balcony where I intended to sit and read given that the roof terrace was not an option. The light on the balcony appeared not to work and assuming it was just a bulb issue I asked the front desk person to change it. He refused to do so saying that he didn't know how to and anyway it was an electrician's job. Didn't know how to change a light bulb - what the hell? At that point I realized that he was the only staff member in the hotel. It is small but that still seemed odd. When the water was cold after turning on the switch I had been shown to use for water heating and waiting 30 minutes to no avail it was obvious that he wasn't going to be able to fix that either so I didn't even bother to ask.
Other reviewers have mentioned sound from the bars/restaurants across the street and there was some but not so much on a Sunday night to be a problem. There was noise from the TV in the lobby suggesting that the hotel had little soundproofing but again not enough to be a problem. The in-room wifi was free and very good.
The next morning I seemed to be the first person to breakfast but the tablecloths were already covered in food marks. They were obviously not clean to begin with. Nasty! The final straw was when I paid with my credit card and the charge was made in Euros which is always more expensive that local currency benefiting both the hotel and the middle man currency conversion provider. When I asked that it be cancelled and recharged in Turkish Lira the staff person (still the only one there) said that he didn't know how to do it which was no surprise - if he can't change a light bulb why would one expect him to understand the complexities of a credit card system! I suggested that he telephone someone else to ask how but he refused to do saying that "they will still be sleeping", this at 9.15AM on a Monday morning.
All in all I found the service at the White Pearl appalling or perhaps Faulty Tower-esk. Certainly not worth anything close to 55 Euros in a country of modest hotel rates. You can do much better elsewhere.

We were recommended Turtle Beach which is half an hour east. This area is not known for its beaches I'm afraid.
