We stayed for 3 nights in July and had a great time. The chateau is beautiful and on the edge of a nice little village, which is an easy walk away, and a longer walk or short cycle to a lovely lake where you can swim, sunbathe and grab a bite to eat or drink. The village has a handful of restaurants and a bar, and small shop, but is relatively limited. The building is beautiful and offers an authentic chateau B&B experience, with a lovely pool and grounds and very charming hosts. It's location is not at the heart of the Dordogne so some parts are a long drive away, but means that St Emilion wine country is also accessible. We stayed in the 12th Century keep which is stunning, albeit at the time of our stay was very warm and hard to cool even with numerous fans. Because of the relative lack of amenities on site and nearby, we felt a communal fridge or one in the rooms would be great, to keep food and drinks cool. The main chateau rooms don't have self catering facilities and the heat meant it was virtually impossible to keep water or wine cool, so we felt that they'd be a useful addition to the Property. As my fiancee is vegetarian eating in France is always challenging, and we found the local restaurants weren't great at catering for this especially without reservations and with unusual / short hours of business, it might be handy for there to be information the rooms about local village and opening hours / food and drink options, particularly as storing food is not really an option at the chateau. But the remote location was perfect for relaxing in charming surroundings, and it felt like you were the only people there most of the time and able to switch off completely, so we would definately return I the future.

We had a wonderful stay here in this authentic vineyard property. Martine and Laurent were wonderful hosts, our detached gatehouse suite was spacious and comfortable--a great mix of historic and modern with contemporary bathroom fixtures including a shower and separate bathtub. The main house was elegantly furnished and felt very much like the lived in home it is, rather than a decorated hotel. And the surrounding beautifully landscaped grounds lead to the nearby vineyards. We're tennis players, so having the court was a major factor in our choice to stay at Mondesir, and while showing a bit of wear and tear, was still excellent for our needs for some exercise to help work off that wonderful French food. We had a gourmet multi course dinner cooked by Martine and Laurent on our first night there, plus sumptuous continental breakfasts. And we had a terrific meal at L'un des Sens in the within walking distance tiny village of Villefranche (see separate review). We visited nearby St. Emilion, and though it's a beautiful medieval village, it's extremely commercial, and after visiting there we were relieved we had stayed in a quieter and more authentic place.

A two night stay in this lovely old building. Martine and Laurent made us very welcome, cooked a delicious meal for us one night and reserved a table for us in the unexpectantly excellent restaurant in the village for the second night. Laze by the pool, walk the countryside, drink the wine and enjoy. We will return.

GPS brought us through narrow winding roads to the back entrance of a Chateau I knew we would be resting our heads for one night.Upon approaching the main entrance I was struck by the beauty of the Chateau that was hidden behind the shrubbery. The Chateau had been described to me by my Aunt and Uncle who have stayed at the Chateau many times, but even their description could not capture what I saw before my eyes. Chateau Mondesir was enchanting, encompassing old world charm with a modern flare. The grounds were stunning with acres of vineyards and a variety of fragrant roses extending across the facade of the Chateau. Then the grand tour of the interior of the Chateau ensued. Every suite entered was more charming then the next, they were all cozy, warm and inviting. Speaking of warm and inviting the owner's/hosts of the Chateau ,Laurant and Martine were the real hidden treasure's. They were remarkable and gracious from the beginning of our short stay to the very end. The food was spectacular, prepared with love in Martine's kitchen. Laurant knows his way around the kitchen as well. The aroma's wafting from the kitchen were mouth watering. Pork pate',duck breast with a demi-glace, and cassoulet were served for dinner with wine that was created from the vineyard's harvested grapes.I could go on for hours, but I hope you have gotten a sense of how wonderful my brief experience at the Chateau has been. Just imagine your experience at Chateau De Mondesir.
